Book four in the Killer Coffee series that I swear is just getting even better as it continues. This time Roxy is gearing up to help with a big wedding that is supposed to be happening in town. It was going smoothly until the maid-of-honor goes nuts trying to take over making it more her day then the brides. the two of them get into a huge public fight right in the middle of the coffee shop with the crazy one storming out. That would have been the end of it but Roxy finds her dead body outside the shop really early the next morning. One of the main suspects asks her to act as their lawyer so she starts looking into things. She is becoming quite good a bribing people with her goodies to get answers and this point which makes the story even more fun. I enjoy the evolving relationship with the Sheriff is showed some good character growth. Overall this is a well written cozy mystery novels that is just full of life and personality. I highly recommend the whole series to fans of the genre. I really enjoyed it so I give it 4/5 stars.
There’s plenty of gossip and plenty of suspects as Roxy finds another dead body. I think the Sheriff held it pretty together when he gets the call. Fast paced and lots of twists. Not enough time with Patrick, mom, or Aunt Maxi but the book moved along so fast and had so many other good characters that it wasn’t till it was over that I realized each only popped in and out a bit. Roxy uses her coffee shop skills and lawyering to get all the missing pieces. A great series!
Roxy Bloom is in a great mood after finally getting to sleep in her own house after months of waiting for the repairs to be made after a fire. She and her dog Pepper arrive at the Bean Hive Coffee Shop to prepare the food and coffee for the day when they find a dead body sitting in one of her cafe chairs outside her shop. Sheriff Spencer instructs Roxy to leave the investigation to him and the deputies but after one of the suspects asks Roxy to be her lawyer Roxy plows full steam ahead into the investigation.
This book is my favorite in the series so far. The mystery was great as there were a couple of mysteries needing to be solved in this book. The twists and turns of the plot kept me on my toes guessing who was involved and why. I really loved how Roxy is now truly part of Honey Springs. I enjoyed seeing Roxy and Patrick have their little arguments in this book, not that I don’t want them together but this makes them more realistic. I also enjoyed seeing how Roxy and her mother have repaired their relationship and want to help one another when the other is having problems. Overall I really love how the characters are evolving and becoming more complex and realistic. And being an animal lover; I love how Roxy always sponsors a rescue animal in her shop to help with pet adoptions.
This is the 4th book in the series but can be enjoyed as a stand-alone mystery. I recommend this book to all mystery lovers, especially cozy lovers. I was provided with an ARC of this book with the hopes I would review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Tonya Kappes does a great job continuing the Killer Coffee series in Honey Springs. Characters continue to capture our hearts as we learn more about our favourite people in town. Another interesting murder plot. This one takes the cake. 🙂
Mortgage lenders —Murder and intrigue. Will Roxy and her Aunt solve all the mysteries and save their friends home?
Flowers are blooming, spring is in the air, and a wedding is being planned; what can possibly go wrong? Another body of course! This person rubbed people, and too many it seems, the wrong way. Roxy will have to put her sleuthing abilities to the test this time around! With each story new characters are added while those we know and love continue to develop. New areas of town are built up which gives us a larger picture of what Honey Springs looks like. It is a place I would absolutely love to visit or even live!
Honey Springs, Kentucky is jam-packed with fun and southern charm. I am crazy about this series. Roxy and Patrick have their work cut out for them as they race to solve a murder! The characters are friends, and the plot is interesting and fun. I do recommend this book, Cold Blooded Brew by Tonya Kappes, to others who enjoy a side of humor with their mystery.
Anything Tonya Kappes writes is a win with me but this series is my favourite. The town, the coffee shop, the animal shelter …. you get it! It’s a definite recommendation from me.
Cold Blooded Brew was an awesome book. It is the 4th book in the Killer Coffee Mystery Series but it can easily be read as a standalone. I thoroughly enjoyed this book you don’t need to go back and read the first three but this was such a good book that I will go back and read the first three. This book has lots of twists and turns, everyone was a suspect which kept you guessing and totally interested. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves small town cozy mysteries. I can’t wait to read more.
Tonya Kappes is a new author to me. This is the 4th book in the Killer Coffee series and I have not read any of the others in the series. I found this book to be a fun fast paced mystery. I really enjoyed reading this book and had no problems following alone even though I had not read earlier books. After reading this book I want to go back and read books 1-3.
An excellent cosy mystery! Absolutely hilarious, and I laughed the whole way through. The characters were so likeable, the small town described so vividly, and the mystery element truly remained a mystery until very close to the end. A great book, and I look forward to reading a lot more from this talented author!
I enjoyed this fourth book to the series. When Roxy finds a body in front of The Bean Hive she is pulled into a search for the killer which is no easy task when instead of a bridezilla this is a maid of honor beast, who irritated so many people that there is no lack of possible suspects who would want to see her gone. The mystery was excellent and took you right along with Roxy as to who did it. Although this is the fourth in the series, I don’t think that you will have a problem reading it as a stand alone. I will definitely continue on with this series.
I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is a great series! The setting is in Honey Springs, Kentucky, where Roxanne Bloom is the owner of the Bean Hive Coffeehouse. A warm, inviting place for customer’s to gather for a nice cup of coffee and a bite to eat. Roxanne, who is better known as Roxie to her friends, is an ex-lawyer. She has a knack for finding dead bodies.
The town is all excited about the upcoming nuptials between Pam Horton and Truman Phillips. Problems start to brew when the Maid of Honor starts stepping on the bride’s toes. They have a falling out.
When Roxie heads to her coffeehouse, she finds a dead body on the doorstep, which is none other than Pam’s Maid of Honor. The deceased was recently involved in an altercation in a store with another customer.
With several of Roxie’s friends on the Sheriff’s list of suspects. Roxie sets out to prove their innocence, where her sleuthing uncovers a nefarious activity.
I love this series! The backdrop of the Bean Hive and the small town atmosphere of Honey Springs is so comforting to read about – it feels like coming back home for a visit. I love the cute names of the shops – this time around the Honey Comb Hair Salon tickled my fancy…and such great cover art on this one!
A high profile wedding in town is keeping the residents of Honey Springs hopping – but an obnoxious self-appointed maid of honor has hijacked the nuptials. Her latest escapade involves a fight over the purchase of a jacket – which she lost. When that same awful maid of honor ends up dead, wearing the jacket, it adds an additional element of mystery to her death – how did she get the jacket? Due to the wedding, there are several suspects in town who wished her ill, so Roxy has her hands full investigating. Just when you think the story is going one way, the clue that finally led us to the reveal of the killer turns out to be one of the oldest motives in the book (won’t spoil it for you – you need to read the book!). You can count on this author to always comes up with a unique story! I’m anxiously awaiting Roxy’s next adventure.
Note: I did receive an ARC of the book; however, my review was not required and is my own honest opinion.
Cold Blooded Brew is the delightful fourth in A Killer Coffee Mystery series. The Bean Hive coffee shop is on the boardwalk of Honey Springs Lake, KY. Roxy left her law partnership to open this fabulous little shop where coffee, breakfast skillets, and soups are hot and tasty and the gossip is … well, some days hotter than others. If you like cozy mysteries that are suspenseful and served with humor, friends, and good food, this might be the brew for you.
Roxy visited Aunt Maxi in Honey Springs when she was growing up. One of the lifelong friends she made is Crissy, of the Honey Comb Salon. Since Roxy moved here, her mother relocated and is now an active Realtor. Roxy reconnected with the crush of her teen years and is now engaged to Patrick Cane, of Cane Contractors. She was chosen by Pepper, her loyal companion Schnauzer, and has been known to … well … find bodies. Murdered folks. Rare in Honey Springs, the very few land in her path.
Babette, an event planner, is preparing for the wedding of the season for Pam Horton and Truman Phillips. Pam’s best friend is Hillary, and since she told Pam she would pay for whatever Pam’s deposit to Babette didn’t cover, Hillary began to change everything to fit her fancy, not Pam’s. Why, she even made Pam fire the local baker contracted to make the cake! Pam finally had enough, as had Babette. At the Queen for a Day wedding and women’s boutique, she fought with Babette over who was going to purchase the coat Babette selected. Early in the morning, Roxy rode her bicycle to work, and saw Babette, wearing her new coat, in front of Bean Hive. Only it wasn’t Babette – it was Hillary wearing Babette’s coat. Dead.
Roxy learns that Hillary had many enemies. She is trying to get Babette off the hook for the murder, but then Emily, the baker, and Pam, the bride-to-be, are next on the list. To sweeten the brew, something is happening with the mortgage company that financed several businesses and homes. They are calling in some of the loans in their entirety, and hard-working people like Emily are losing everything. Roxy, who had worked loan closings as an attorney, begins to look for the money trail.
Roxy loves Honey Springs and its people, and is a genuinely happy gal. She is an asset to any community, as she looks for the common good. Her sharp intellect and experience as an attorney help her get to the truth, and she has a natural talent for defusing most situations with respect, and when called for, humor. The townspeople show their civic pride in many ways. Sure, there is pesky gossip, like anywhere, but overall, these are really likable people who pitch in to work together. I’m looking forward to my next visit with these folks!
This is such a fun novel Few people I’ve met enjoy their career as much as Roxy, and there are few authors who demonstrate Southern charm as well as Tonya Kappes. While not every situation is funny, including murder or betrayal, the folks in Honey Springs look for good in people and joy in everyday things. The plot twists point to more suspects, and the Sheriff and Roxy have their hands full. I didn’t know who the killer was, or why, until Roxy did. The novel is upbeat throughout, and gives us readers a lot to look forward to! I highly recommend this to everyone who enjoys down home humor, solid friendships, romance, and very finely written and executed cozy mysteries.
With a grateful heart: I received a copy of this e-arc from the author and NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
Roxy finds Hillary Canter sitting outside her Bean Hive Coffee Shop at 3:30 in the morning. When she asks Hillary, a person not very many people like at all due to her rudeness and attitude toward others, what she is doing there, she doesn’t answer. Roxy touches her shoulder and she falls over. She is dead. Oh boy, again! The number one suspect is Roxy’s ex- employee, Emily who has her own bakery now. Only her bakery is failing as the bank has called in the loan she took out on it and doesn’t have the money to pay the bank back. There is something going on at that bank, there are others that are having their loans called in also. What is that all about? Can Roxy figure out who killed Hillary before her friend is arrested? There is no shortage of suspects here. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. The review is my own opinion.
Love it! Hated to put it down. I thoroughly enjoy this Killer Coffee series. It’s a great combination of friends, family, small town ambiance mixing in a murder. This book was so good. It had me trying to figure out the killer right up to the end. And I’m enjoying the romance between Roxy and Patrick. Looking forward to the next one.
Love this series! Spring has arrived in Honey Springs, Kentucky. After witnessing an argument between her friend Babette and Hillary Canter over a coat, Roxy finds a dead body in front of her shop the next morning. At first it seems that the victim is Babette because the woman is wearing the coat Babette bought. It turns out that the victim is actually Hillary Canter. Suspects include Babette, of course, and Pam, who’s wedding Hillary was trying to take over. There also seems to be something shady going on at the bank and with a mortgage lending company. Are the two incidents connected or separate? Roxy investigates to find the truth. Also, Roxy and Patrick finally set a date for their wedding! Looking forward to visiting Honey Springs again soon!
This series keeps getting better -even if it means Honey Spring has a high level of murders- really this may be my favourite so far.
The investigation isn’t simple and we really solve it like a puzzle with bit of info found here and there but really several twist make this one a page turner as you aren’t sure of the motive or culprit until the very end. I love the setting a lot with everyone knowing each other in that little city and still so many secret and gossip.
Roxy is a great character, she really thinks of other and i love how she tries to help everyone while making her dream a reality…her romance is also really moving i loved to see it progress.
Now one part i can’t resist are the one about the pet: Roxy relationship with her dog of course but also all the other she helps get adoptee and i love seeing them find the right owner.
This story is so captivating that i fear making too many spoiler so i will stop here and only tell you that you must read this one and if you can read the series in order it’s even better!!!
*I received this book as an ARC.*
The book is a really nice cozy mystery – fits the category for me. It is whimsical in that all the store on Honey Springs Pier have in common….. yes you guessed it.
It is my first in this seires, so will have to go back and catch up hopefully before the next book. It does standalone, since I read it that way and you can follow the story and characters easily. That is important since I find new books in the middle of a series all the time.
Recommend if looking for something light and easy to read to switch your brain off and relax.
