I have always loved the John Jordan novels but this one put me off from the start with politics…really was no need for it…really liked the story but didn’t need the political slant…
Love Michael Lister’s books – always great twists and quick wit!
Good author. Good story -held my attention.
This is a great book
Great writing. Keeps you guessing.
I really enjoyed reading this book until I got to the end and found out I had to read the next book to find out who the killer is. Most of Michael Lister’s books are stand alone books, not cliffhangers, so this took me by surprise. I am going to read the next book so I can find out who the killer is. Inquiring minds must know. It’s a well written book that I would have given 5 stars to if it hadn’t had the cliffhanger at the end. He’s really a good writer and I plan on reading all of his books as I’m able to get them.
Wow. Non stop.
“Cold Blood” is one of those books that end up on my Kindle somehow or another without my knowledge, and then I read them and discover something new and delightful.
I honestly have no memory of when or why I downloaded “Cold Blood,” and so I had zero expectations going into it, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it’s quite good. It’s the first book in the John Jordan series that I’ve read, so I know I’m missing quite a lot of backstory, but I was still able to follow along with no problem.
It features that beloved mystery plot device, the cold case. This time there’s a twist, though: two of the characters revive the cold case by doing a popular podcast about it. This gets the sherif’s department, and thus John, the main character, involved in it.
The podcast is a clever touch, and the action switches back and forth between John investigating and listening to the podcast to catch up on what’s already known about the case. The podcast episodes are particularly well done, with the conversational syntax of the podcasters captured in print.
The story is very contemporary, set against the background of Trump’s America, and the characters spend time discussing the state of the nation and how to live according to their (liberal) values in the situation they’ve found themselves in. Some readers may find that off-putting, but mysteries have always ventured boldly into political, social, and psychological territory, and it adds an extra dimension to the story. Overall, a complex mystery that is still an easy read, with a stunning twist at the end.
I really enjoyed this book as it was a little bit like an interesting documentary but with a great story woven into it. I really liked this style of writing as it felt more factual than fictional but a very interesting story and ending.
A enjoyable read if you are a mystery reader.
MIchael Lister’s ‘Blood’ series are the best.
I enjoy ALL the John Jordan stories, but this was particularly interesting, I thought – Never guessed the ending.
This is a well done mystery with a lot of twists and turns to keep the pages turning up until the somewhat contrived ending. Good beach read.
Michael Lister portrays realistic characters torn by that mix of emotions that we all feel. It is helpful to see those characters recognize those conflicts and find a resolution.
Michael Lister can weave a tale that’s for sure. You can’t figure it out until he wants you to. Excellent writing.
The plot kind of wandered in my opinion. Won’t read another in this series.
Reasonably well-written and well-paced. A pleasant timewaster.
Always like the books by John Lister. He’s great and John Jordan is one of my very favorite characters even though I’m an atheist
A unique and interesting concept in these books: the main character is a prison chaplain as well as a Homicide investigator. This book was a great addition to the series. I highly recommend it and I will read them all
