ANOTHER FABULOUS ADDITION TO THE COLLECTION!!!
Title: Cody’s Second Chance
Author: A.K. Michaels
Designation: Book 3 of Silver Streak Pack and released as part of Gwen Knight’s multi-author Bad Alpha Dads Collection, Novella, No Cliffhanger, HEA
My Rating: Five Delightfully Bad to the Bone Stars*****
Cody’s Second Chance is a delightful, fast-paced, well-crafted, standalone paranormal romance filled to the brim with danger, drama, suspense, angst, hope, passion, and happiness via an unexpected second chance at love. Cody’s Second Chance is not your typical shifter insta-mate scenario, but rather what I’d describe as an unconventional, heart wrenching, and highly emotional love story, which is what A.K. Michaels does best. I found myself sniffling, snuffling, and chuckling through the entire book, and though Cody’s Second Chance is a relatively quick read, coming in at approximately 85 pages, it does pack quite a punch. Sometimes, the best things do come in small packages. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with a single perspective from Cody Murphy, wolf shifter and owner of Silvers Bar. The dialogue is smart, easy to follow, and flows effortlessly. But my favorite component of every Michaels’ book is her cast of engaging, life-like, and always memorable characters, with even the villains being noteworthy. I was intrigued by the handsome, mysterious bar owner Cody Murphy when he appeared in the first two books of the series and so hoped Michaels would give him a story of his own – and she did, which is one of the many reasons I’m such a diehard fan. Michaels listens to her readers. We ask, and she delivers! Of course, there are other familiar names also popping up in this story, another thing I enjoy about her work. I look forward to hearing about our favorite characters from previous books in the series, like lion-shifter Rocky and his wolf-shifter mate Connie who were featured in Heavenly Scents, and the Silver Streak Pack Alpha Chad, who’s popped up in all three books of the series. But if you haven’t read the first two books, you can still read this story. All the books of this series can be read as standalones and in any order. So, did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet, but only for adult readers since it does contain a few steamy adult scenes. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
For years, Cody Murphy drifted as a lone wolf without a pack or family. After opening his bar Silvers and becoming a reluctant member of the nearby Silver Streak Pack, Cody thought he’d outrun the demons of his past. He’d never liked taking orders and worked hard to control his wolf’s alpha tendencies. Thankfully, he and the Silver Streak Pack Alpha had come to an agreement, albeit an uneasy one, but it worked, for both him and his wolf, and for that he was grateful, especially since his bar was doing well, enabling him to help others struggling to start a new life. Yet, no matter how many people he helped or how hard he worked, nothing seemed to ease the heartache of losing the only woman he’d ever loved after being cast out of his pack twenty years earlier. At least, he was finally learning to live with the pain, emptiness, and loss – or so he thought. But when an unexpected visitor shows up Silvers to confront him, Cody realized he’s woefully unprepared to face the pain and despair of a life he thought he’d long since left behind. Will Cody find a way to tear down the walls around his heart and fight for a second chance, even though it could cost him everything, including his life? We’ll see!
Cody’s Second Chance is a great book. Cody has a temper that has tamed over the years but when he was young it was out of control. Cody had to leave his pack because of it. When he left he left his true love and has paid for it since. With dreams of their lovemaking and the fact that he had not called her made some nights unbearable. Cody still is fighting his temper and his new alpha Chad is getting tired of him not obeying him but has cut him slack. Cody owns a bar that is doing quite well. He helps anyone in need without a second thought. On this night a young girl sitting in the corner drinking a soda kept giving Cody bad looks like she wanted to kill him. By the end of the night, Cody needed to find out what was up with her. When it’s time to close he goes to see her but she has run out the door. Cody catches the girl and finds out her name is Codry and she is the surprise he never thought he would get. This is a book about young love, hot tempers and what a father will do to save his child and true love.
This is Cody’s story and let me just say that his life …… dang !! Cody had to leave the love of his life behind when he was younger and still yearns for her daily but , Cody pulled himself up and made sure that he is a better person that what he was as younger and determined that he would be there to help whomever needed it . While at his bar his attention is drawn toward a young lady that just kept staring daggers at him . When he learns the hard truth he knows exactly what he will have to do and OMG just get this book !! A.K. Michaels out did herself here !! This story is so dang moving that you will not be able to put it down until the very end !! This is well written and strongly recommended to all !!
This is a second chance story about Cody Murphy, a wolf shifter who had to leave his pack by order of his Alpha. He wanted his love, Viola, to come with him but she wouldn’t leave her pack. He was heartbroken and never found another love. Unbeknownst to him, Viola was pregnant but didn’t know until after he was gone. She had a daughter Cordelia, known as Cordy. Viola tells Cordy who her real father is and she tracks him down and tells him who she is and why she hates him. Needless to say he was shocked he had a daughter. He explained why he had to leave and never knew about Viola being pregnant. She tells him Viola was forced to mate with Clyde Morton who became abusive to both of them after Viola couldn’t have any more cubs. Cordy stays with him and they become close. She wouldn’t let Cody go after Viola because Clyde would kill her. Needless to say Cody isn’t happy about it. Read for yourselves the outcome of the story for yourselves. There is sadness, happiness and humor and a satisfying HEA. Loved it and highly recommend it!
I love the Silver Streak pack and having Cody’s story finally was fantastic. We met him back when Rocky and Connie started dating before they mated. He is a loner pretty much and Chad the alpha has never minded too much but lately he doesn’t much like Cody’s attitude.
What does a wolf shifter do when his past haunts him day and night for over 20 years? He drinks. Thank goodness he owns his own bar.
But tonight in Silvers something isn’t quite right and he knows someone is staring but who?
He is suprised to see his own eyes looking back at him and now he has to find out what is going on.
We get heartache, truth, and a ton of action in this story. I loved it.
I have read most of the Bad Alpha Dads so far and this one was a little different than those. This one takes a already grown daughter to find her father. I have always wondered what it would be like to find like to find my father after all these years.
It was a very addicting story and I read the whole thing in one sitting because I didn’t want to put it down. You could feel the emotions coming off of both of them with the situation in front of them. You cannot help but Cry as you think about the past and what it felt like to leave the one you love.
It was nice to see for one that the man didn’t try to move on with his live life. Of course he new no one could replace his true love. This also shows you that pack stands behind their pack no matter if you are born into or not.
I am sure you will fall in love with this story as much as I have.
Until Next Time…. Tabi
Only Time Will Tell….
Cody Murphy has always had a hard time taking orders which is why he was thrown out of his pack 20 years ago and why he had to leave behind a big piece of his heart. One that has never healed. He has worked hard for what he has and even though he could not stay in the Silver Streak pack for the same reasons, he is still a member of that pack and loved by all. He had a hard start but now he is doing what he would have had others do for him when he was alone. As owner of Silvers Bar he can do just that, but then one night he discovers that a piece of the heart that he left behind all those years ago is sitting at his bar. All the pain he has lived with for so many years is washed away with just a look into eyes so similar to his. He has a second chance at love, will he know how to hold on to it this time?
A great alpha male who has a lot to learn about being a great dad. I loved this book as I have loved all of Mrs. Michaels’ books.
Cody is a bit of a loner for a wolf and prefers to live on the outskirts of the pack running his bar when his life is thrown into turmoil with the appearance of Cordy!
Put your feet up and enjoy Cody’s discovery of something he never knew was missing from his life, this wolf has a heart of gold beneath that alpha exterior and if anyone deserves a HEA, he does.
This Book Is Unbelievably Great!!
I can’t say enough good things about this book. I cried through a lot of it, out of sadness for the fact that Cody had left his mate, and that when he left her he lost so much more. I cried in happiness when Cordy found Cody. I cheered when Cody took care of the problem. And I cried tears of joy at the ending. I had already read book one and two in the Silver Streak Pack series and loved them both. They are both great. But this one is incredible! I love A.K. Michael’s writing and I can’t wait to see what she writes next!
While I highly enjoyed Cody getting to know his daughter in this story it is not really a “love” story in the normal sense of the term.
It is action packed near the end. But the juicy parts are rushed and you do not really get any interaction with Cody and his mate. Its more like a 3 sec tv show happening. The story is strong but could be so much more then just about Cody and Cordy.
It was pretty disappointing in that sense. This author did an amazing job on describing that the anger and other emotions from Cordy and Cody for being forced to miss so much of each others lives. But the “meat” of the story is missing. You have this super long intro to his soon to be family. (how else could it go?) Then when they finally meet up with his mate, the author just skips right over it. We go from fighting for their lives to she needs a healer.. then months later she is all healed and getting ready to mate. But so much more is missing.
As, this author is one of my favorites this is a hard blow for me. I expect those fights, struggles to get to love each other and its a wham bam thank you ma’am.
OOOH this daddy may come to the title late on but he’s just what his daughter needs!
Cody left his pack when he could have caused an “incident” with his Alpha. But he also left the love of his life behind. He thought she would go with him but she chose her family over him. Now he runs Silvers, the hottest pub and maintains a hands off approach with the local pack, even though Chad, the Alpha, treats him like pack.
Then one night a young female wanders into the bar and he has a Deja vu moment. But when he approaches the young woman he never expected her to be so hostile, brave and downright stubborn as she is. She is also his daughter!
As her past is uncovered he learns what his lost love and daughter have been subjected to and his blood boils. But when the danger turns up on his doorstep he is more than prepared to take them on. And he won’t be alone!
What can I say about this book??? Cody is protective, stubborn and late to the party when he realises that his lost love was his fated mate! Cordy is just as stubborn as her father and there will be many clashes between these two in the future I’m sure! I loves the finale fight scene between Cody and the “baddie”. So well written and the way the abuse is handled is very sympathetically. Loved it!
