I knew the risks of this job when I signed on with Jameson Force Security. Knew my time as a marine would prepare me for the danger I would face. But no amount of training could have ever prepared me for the helplessness of watching my teammates die, the agonizing mental and physical pain of torture, or the despair of captivity. Returning home to Pittsburgh following a mission gone wrong, I am … riddled with guilt and haunted by nightmares. I spend my days trying to regain the parts of myself I lost in that desert, the pieces that made me the Malik Fournier I once was. While the physical effects of my torture are fading, the emotional ones are proving much more stubborn and I find solace from the last person I should ever seek such comfort. Anna Tate lost even more than I did in that mission. Now a widow and a single mom to the daughter she gave birth to shortly after her husband’s death, Anna offers me comfort I don’t deserve. As my feelings for Anna grow, I worry that once she learns the truth about what happened, she’ll turn her back on me. I pull her to me just as tightly as I push her away. Hoping this forbidden love will save me from the ghost I’ve become.

Both narrators are great for the audio on Audible. Clear quality performances from both the male and female narrators. Recommended.
Sweet romance between Anna and Malik. Anna’s husband died on a mission for a private security firm while she was pregnant, and Anna now works for the same security firm. Malik works for the same private security firm, and was recently captured and tortured by an enemy. Luckily, Malik is saved, but needs to take some time to recover. Anna and Malik end up tasked with working on the same project, so they begin to grow closer while working together and dealing with their hardships. I wasn’t a huge fan of the single mom premise; especially when there was talk about her breast feeding and her milk leaking during sex, but I did like both characters. Anna has the whole wholesome girl next door thing going on, and Malik is a nice guy. There’s a nice connection between them. I wish there was more suspense in this book since it is about a security firm, but this focuses mainly on the healing and romantic aspects. I missed having those action scenes in this book like they were in the other books in this series; more action would’ve added to the fun of the story. I’d say a 3.5 rating for the story, but I rounded up to a 4 because of the good narration and this is an entertaining series. The setup for the next book with Cage and his girl, Jamie, sounds fun, so I’m looking forward to continuing this series!
I’ve been waiting for this book! Malik and Anna have palpable chemistry and painful pasts. I enjoyed their journey filled will emotions. Aaron Sherlock and Virginia Rose’s narration is fantastic! Worth the read/listen.
for the audio –
I started this audio without first reading the blurb. So I was shocked and pleased to find out that the story was about Anna and Malik. I was happy that Anna got to have a story and that Malik got to be saved in more ways than one. Their story took up the entire listening time. There wasn’t a misdirection with Malik running off for weeks on missions. It was nice to jst have the focus on them and how they were both similar and yet different. What would make their relationship work.
Aaron Shedlock and Virginia Rose narrated both characters and did a fine job of being smooth and grumbly when called for. I of course did notice as they each started their chapters as Malik and Anna. But I didn’t notice the difference of Aaron voicing Anna or Virgina giving voice to Malik, as well as other characters. Both narrators complimented each other for the story.
I really enjoyed listening to Ghost.
Ghost was so much more than I expected! 5 Stars! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
So in the beginning Malik is finally found and rescued. One would expect this man to be severely damaged and a recluse. This is not what we get. What we get is a man that is holding on to the loss of his teammates and is needing to be back to work. This allows him to heal, move forward and get to know this team that he works with, including the widow of one of his team mates he lost.
Anna is healing and only has a few moments of sadness at the loss of her husband. She goes to her job each day and raises their newborn daughter. The love and presence of her daughter heals her everyday. She never expects to grow close to another man and she never expects that man to ever be Malik.
What these two share is Beautiful, Magical and is just what they need.
We know from earlier books that Malik was captured, and believed killed, in a mission that went sideways. Now several months later, Malik has been rescued and is back home at Jameson Securities. As with any POW survivor, he suffers from PTSD, as well as survivor’s guilt. Then there’s that pesky attraction to Anna, his dead teammate’s wife…can Malik go against the ‘bro code’ and follow his heart? Then there’s Anna, widowed, single mom…who’s fighting her attraction to Malik. Following these characters as they deal with the pain of losing a friend and loved one; then fighting the mutual attraction was, at times heart wrenching! This book is well written and draws the reader/listener into the lives of the characters and sub-characters. The narration team is a perfect fit because they match up with my expectations for the characters. I highly recommend this book.
I accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have been so excited for Malik’s book since I knew it was going to happen. Given everything we know about what he and Anna have gone through I have been looking forward to them getting their happy ending. Both of them have healing to do from tragedy and I enjoyed seeing them find their way through it. They have a very unique bond because of it and I really loved seeing it blossom. I really loved their story together and seeing them both grow and overcome their circumstances.
First I want to start by saying this book can completely be read as a stand alone – but as a HUGE fan of Sawyer Bennett, Ghost is a book I’ve been dying to get my hands on. Sawyer magically manages to wrap all of her worlds into this amazing book. Some may be worried how can she pull that off?
Well let me tell you she does this with utter perfection. In just about every series she writes, Malik has wormed his story into the fold. She would leave snippets, breadcrumbs and all sorts of teasers that made me wanting to practically beg her for Malik’s story. Sawyer intricately wove his story into all of those story lines and there is no way I couldn’t help but fall in love with him.
His story is unique. I laughed and I cried both happy and sad tears for Malik as he worked through his struggles of accepting his fate. Anna was the perfect person for him and I truly never wanted this story to end.
True to Sawyer’s form, she left one heck of a train of breadcrumbs for her next book and I want it so bad. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us.
PS – Aaron Shedlock and Virginia Rose brought Sawyer’s beautiful story for life. I can’t wait to listen to more from them in the future as well.
***** AUDIOBOOK REVIEW *****
Oh holy moly! Ghost storylone made my heart ache… like it literally ached for these two battered souls! For one, I can’t even imagine (and don’t wanna) how Anna was able to continue on with life and having a baby without the father. I feel like i would have been a pebble but Anna shows great strength. Then we have Malik, he’s struggling with some massive survivor’s guilt. They both excluded this strength and so much heartache… until love started to mend them together.
Aaron Shedlock excels at playing the wounded marine/military man. There’s something in his voice that magnifies all the feelings, all the pain Malik feels is given over in his voice. Virgina Rose is very similar with packing a wallup of emotions into her voice. This is a rough and emotionally-charged story that these to narrators took to another level!
I like all the Jameson Force Security Books nut I like this one a lot because I can’t remember a member of the group having actually endured what Malik did. Then to top it all off, he shared part of his trauma with Annie who lost her husband.
I liked this book because although there is a lot of sadness of things from the past, we saw the strength of people that find a purpose for their future. Annie had Avery. Malik had Annie.
I’ve been anticipating Code Name: Ghost since I found out in one of Sawyer Bennett’s earlier books that Malik survived. I was curious to see how he’d recover from the ordeal and who he was going to end up with, and it was worth the wait!
Anna’s husband, Jimmy, was killed on the same mission Malik was on when he was captured. That makes this different from the other romances I usually get to read- this one is also about finding love again after suffering a loss and overcoming survivor’s guilt. One thing I liked about this story is that it addresses both issues well and that it ended with all the loose ends neatly tied up. It does, however, tease the next book in the series, Code Name: Rook, and I can’t wait to see what happens in Cage’s story.
Aaron Shedlock and Virginia Rose were fantastic as Malik and Anna.
Code Name: Ghost is a slow burn contemporary romance written in dual first-person POV and recorded dual style. It’s a standalone that ends with a HEA. No cliffhanger, no cheating.
I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
As you might see from my reviews, lately I am mostly reading and reviewing hockey romance, which I love. But then again it was a time to take a break from my beloved hockey goons 😀 This was a welcoming break from it and Code Name: Ghost being one of my most anticipated book of 2020, put a cherry on the top 🙂
The last rescue mission of Jamison security went wrong, and two employees, Jimmy and Sal, died while Malik Fournier was captured. He was aware of the high-risk missions Jameson was hired to deliver and being an ex-marine, he was used to being part of dangerous missions. Now, after five months of captivity, he is finally back home. He is trying to get back to his normal life but the guilt he is feeling keeps him from moving forward. He is not the only one, who is suffering from mission going wrong, Anna Tate is the widow of Jimmy, who was killed in action. The saddest part is when Jimmy was leaving for the mission, she was pregnant. Now she has a four-year-old daughter, who never will get a chance to know her father. My heart aches for the people who lost their loved ones because of the war. Anna is one of the strongest characters I ever read about. She is also independent, loyal, and hardworking. Anna working as Kynan’s assistant allows them to see each other daily which helped them to build up their friendship. They have a unique bond due to sharing the same loss. At first, this was great support for them both because they just get what the other one going through. However, with time it gets harder to disregard the attraction they feel towards each other. But before going forward they both have to face their demons and overcome them. They are also not sure how will people reach their relationship. Also, I love Malik’s family. He has two brothers, who are hockey players and a sister who is married to an ex-hockey player. They are all understanding and always there for each other. I loved how they never asked him to explain the things he went through until he was ready to tell.
Malik and Anna’s story will take you on a journey you won’t regret. It is emotional, heartwarming, inspiring, hopeful, a little funny, a little sexy story that will make you feel all the emotions at one point or another. I loved the friendship, loyalty, and support, Jamieson team have for each other. I am curious about where the story of Jameson will take us next… Code Name: Rook is the next book of the series which will be released in October. I am dying to see how Cage’s lies will catch up with him and if he will be able to get out of it without too much of a trouble.
• Would I recommend this book: Yes
• Would I re-read this book: Done already
• Would I read future books by this author: Yes
Code Name: Ghost (Jameson Force Security #5) was a great read by Sawyer Bennett.Malik knew that his job with Jameson Force Security was a risky one. But his training as a marine would prepare him for the danger. Unfortunately his training wouldn’t prepare him to watch his teammates die and be stuck in captivity. He was subjected to torture both mentally and physically. Malik returned to Pittsburgh feeling guilty and haunted by nightmares. Malik is trying to find the man he was before the mission that changed his life. On that same mission, Anna lost her husband. Not only is she a widow, she is a single mother to the little girl she had after her husband’s death. Anna and Malik comfort each other. They have a chemistry that neither one can deny. I really enjoyed reading Anna and Malik’s story and can’t wait to read more by Sawyer Bennett.
This is one of the books that I have been not so patiently waiting for. I wanted to know what happened to Malik in Syria and when he comes home. And what would happen with Anna Tate after picking up the pieces of her life after losing her husband. The relationship with these two is what you can imagine. Sawyer Bennett did not disappoint with this book. I could not put this down and loved the story. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. The great thing about this series and of sawyer Bennett series is you don’t have to read all of the books but I do suggest you do because they are so good.
Malik Fournier was on a mission for Jameson Force Security when he was taken prisoner. That same mission killed two of his teammates. After months in captivity, Malik is rescued. As he begins to heal physically, mentally he is suffering from survivors’ guilt.
Anna Tate lost her husband on the same mission Malik was taken captive. She is now learning to live her life as a single mother. As her and Malik bond over the loss of her husband, seems to be the only one that truly understands Malik. Their chemistry is instant and as their friendship turns into more, will Anna and Malik be able to put their issues aside to finally get their happily ever after.
This is truly one of the best Jameson Force stories.
Read: 7/6/2020
Code Name: Ghost was the fifth book in Sawyer Bennett’s Jameson Force Security series. I’ve been anticipating this book for some time and as expected, I wasn’t disappointed. And although It could be read as a stand-alone, to fully understand and appreciate Malik, I recommend reading the series in order.
Malik Fornier was a new member of the Jameson Force security team. We met him previously through references from his siblings in the Cold Fury Hockey series (Max, Lucas and Sierra, books six, seven and nine) and then again briefly in Code Name: Genesis (book one) when he joined the firm. As a former Marine in Special Forces, he was an asset for covert operations.
Anna Tate was a new mother and recent widow to Malik’s former teammate. She worked at Jameson Security as an Assistant to the Owner to aid in finding her new normal.
The storyline picked up while Malik was in captivity – which we knew from previous books as a mission gone wrong, with two team members dead and one MIA. Thankfully Bennett spared us torture details except through his current physical description and capabilities. Overall, the storyline was a tough journey of healing, both mentally and physically, and learning to not only live anew, but to totally accept the situation and learn to thrive without a negative impact from recent events.
I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline, characters, the Jameson comradery and the Fornier family bonds. And although it was a tough subject, it wasn’t a tough read. Well done Bennett! Now off to the fun and playful, Cage Murdock in Code Name: Rook and I can’t wait!
Finally getting Malik’s highly anticipated story and it was so worth the wait! After getting bits and pieces of the preview of Malik’s story in other books, I was so excited to finally get his whole story from start to finish of what happened when he became a POW, and then the aftermath. I was absolutely heartbroken for him at the beginning of the story where we find him captive for months, and I ended up jumping for joy when he was found! Anna lost her husband in the same mission where Malik was kidnapped, and she gave birth to her daughter and maintained her independence while mourning his death. When Malik is rescued and returns home, both him and Anna have a pull towards each other, likely from their common link of the mission gone badly, and as they get to know each other post recovery the more the chemistry and feelings grow. I absolutely loved this story for so many reasons, but definitely loved that these two found each other after the traumatic situation. I can’t wait for the next installment in this series – especially with the bomb dropped at the end of this book! Another absolute hit from Sawyer!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Malik Fournier starts the mystery right out of the gate. One scene was pretty graphic which made me glad that I wasn’t eating anything at the time. His story will tug at your heart. Anna Tate is trying to be strong. Her story may be a little similar to Malik’s because it will also pull at your heart. Ghost sucked me in early on. It’s a perfect title since it glides so smoothly and effortlessly from scene to scene. The problem for me was pulling an all-nighter or going to sleep so I could get up the next day and go to work.
I’ll let you figure out which one I wanted and which one I got. You may just find yourself in the same pickle. I hope that this book will give you an incentive to check out the rest of this series if you aren’t already following. Maybe this will be the nudge you need to get that accomplished. If you like a story that evokes a lot of emotion than this is one will give that to you. This author creates the right combination to give her readers what they’re looking for and this series knocks it out of the park every single time.
First person is the best way to tell this story. We need to be able to hear Malik’s thoughts and understand what’s he’s feeling in certain situations. We’ll also need the same thing from Anna. We need to be able to feel the bond that starts to form. Getting it from someone else’s viewpoint would not give us the same impression. This was also a great way to catch up with the people that form this security team and it also left me wanting more. But I’m a little anxious because I have about four months to go.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
This is the fifth book in the Jameson Force Security series but that should not stop you from enjoying this book if you have not read or listened to the earlier books. Yes, there are interactions with prior characters but the author does a good job that you won’t be lost in who they are. The story really focuses on Malik and his returning to Pittsburg after his last mission for Jameson Force Security went wrong and he was captured. I really enjoyed how the narrators really brought this story to life. I was not able to turn it off and spent all day listening to it. For those that are familiar with the series you will be like me and have been waiting for Malik’s story. Not only were the narrators able to portray all the emotions of the characters, you felt like you were really with them. So when you start this story, plan on spending the next several hours listening because you won’t want to stop as you experience this story of grief, survivors guilt, second chances, and friendship and love. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, as the author has given us hints to Cage and what is going on with him and boy that sounds like it is going to be awesome.
This is the next in the Jamison Force Series it’s book fifth of the series. We finally find out what happened to Malik Fournier once he was kidnapped on a previous mission and how he feels about the situation that occurred. He feels guilty and blames himself for things going south on the mission and once he’s rescued and back at Jamison Security finds himself placed on desk duty for the time being. He also now works with the widow of one of his team members that was lost during that mission. Anna Tate is now a single mother and widow that does everything in her power to show she’s capable of handling everything in her life as an independent woman. Once Malik has returned safely she can breathe a little easier knowing some good came out of the horrific situation that took her husbands life that fateful mission. They share a bond that nobody can truly understand but each other.
The story was amazing and captivating it kept you wanting more and rooting for them as they had been through so much and deserved happiness. The story was a page turner and never wanting it to end but once it did there was a HEA after the ups and downs they had to face.
Talk about a rough start for our hero Malik and with a connection to Anna’s tragic past. At least they found a way to heal each other. Good book and I think this book is perfect on audio.
Narrators Aaron Shedlock and Virginia Rose were perfect for their characters.
