What a great start to Sawyer Bennett’s new Jameson Force Security series! While we have gotten a taste of Kynan McGrath in her Wicked Horse series and there was also a novella devoted to he and Joslyn and how they met, it was finally time for him to get a book, and an agency, of his own.
Kynan was ready to strike out on his own after working with his best friend Jericho for years. He was ready to be doing more than installing security systems, he was ready to get back out into the field finding stalkers and doing work that the government needs done, but that they can’t get do themselves. He’s an alpha through and through and the most important thing to him is making sure his clients are always kept safe, what he didn’t anticipate was that his next client was going to be the one woman he’s never quite been able to get over.
Joslyn Meyers has been a triple threat in Hollywood for over a decade and she became everything that her mother always wanted her to be. While she’s had success, unfortunately she’s dealing with a stalker and there is only one person she knows to turn to to help both keep her safe and to catch the perp, the one man she’s loved for the last twelve years.
When Joslyn shows up and asks for Kynan’s help, he’s reluctant at first due to how their previous relationship ended, but when he learns exactly what she’s dealing with, his need to protect her overshadows anything else. As the two are forced to spend time together, they are reminded of their connection and how very real it still is all these years later. When they are forced to air their dirty laundry, they find that maybe things weren’t as they seemed when they ended years before. Will Kynan be able to neutralize the threat to Joslyn and also get back the woman he’s always loved or will everything fall apart around them?
This was full of everything you would hope when you dive into a book centered around a security firm; it had action, suspense, alpha men and some steamy romance thrown in too. You couldn’t help but root for Joslyn and Kynan throughout the entire book. Their chemistry was undeniable and it was clear that the years had not dulled that one bit. I was drawn in after reading the novella that was part of the Wicked Horse series, which is not necessary to read in order to read this book, and couldn’t wait to see how their story ended and I was not disappointed. I’m looking forward to what is still to come for us in this series!
Having read Ms. Bennett’s Wicked Horse Vegas series I was already acquainted with Kynan McGrath and have been (not so patiently) waiting for him to take center stage ever since. Between then and now readers have gotten two short stories full of the tempting Kynan, giving us a glimpse of his initial romance with Joslyn and its bitter end. With this book he’s reunited with his past love, a woman he’s never forgotten or forgiven as she returns in need of his help from a stalker. Once they’re reunited though sparks fly as danger creeps ever closer, putting her life and their HEA in jeopardy in a tale that kept me on the edge of my seat.
Kynan’s security firm is flourishing and ready to expand, taking on vastly different clients as they open a new branch out east. Before starting this new endeavor though he agrees to take on one last client, a client who’s a blast from his past as she’s the one woman to have captured his heart before crushing it years ago. He at first doesn’t want to take on her case but once he realizes how serious things have become for her he won’t trust anyone else with her safety. No matter how hurt he was over her leaving him he can’t deny how much he still cares for her in a connection that never truly ended. Being around her reignites all those old feelings and has him desperate to keep her safe, putting past misunderstandings behind them so they can finally figure out how their story is really supposed to end. Kynan is the stereotypical alpha male, protective and sexy. There’s always been an air of mystery surrounding him too and with his British accent I was frequently seeing him as James Bond. In many ways he’s drool-worthy, but there were still moments where he frustrated me. His first time back in Joslyn’s arm’s was less than romantic, showed him to be continuing with his love ‘em and leave ‘me ways before fully committing to her in a boldly protective stance. The biggest moment of frustration though was the way they parted years ago…he was a jerk in believing others instead of believing his heart. It led to over a decade of wasted time that he now has the chance to make right…if only he can keep her safe from her stalker.
Joslyn Meyers was drawn to Kynan the moment she saw him all those years ago and for the short time they were together their passion burned bright before the machinations of another tore them apart. She’s become a big star since then and at first she didn’t take the threats to her life seriously. Now though she’s definitely scared and though she knows there’s plenty of hurts between her and Kynan she knows he’ll do everything he can to keep her safe. Playing a couple to draw out her stalker puts them in very close quarters, gives them time to talk about what went wrong between them, and leads to lots of erotically-charged interactions that were nicely balanced with the suspense of finding her stalker. Their time apart was painful but it gave both of them time to mature and for her especially it’s led to a changed heroine. She was young when they first got together, easy to manage and quick to believe others, someone who learned not to trust. Now though she’s a much stronger heroine, one to stand up for herself as she does in a memorable first meeting with Kynan. That’s not to say that she didn’t frustrate me as well, because she did. Her trust issues led to a very stupid decision late in the story that put danger right in front of her. Luckily she’s no shrinking violet as she once again stood up for herself and showed herself to be a formidable match to Kynan in a conclusion that kept me frantically turning the pages.
On a whole this was a satisfying series starter with a likable main couple whose reunion was well worth the wait. In a romance that was hard-fought due to years of a big misunderstanding weighing on them and now due to a crazed stalker, I became quickly immersed in their pairing and the suspenseful twists and turns that befell them. It was an exhilarating pairing too teeming with sexual tension that kept me on the edge of my seat. Alongside this appealing main couple was an equally likable cast of secondary characters that has me longing for future installments featuring Saint, Cruce, and especially Bebe whose backstory is heartbreaking. Readers will find this another nicely crafted story from the ever-reliable Ms. Bennett and will be counting down the days until we can return to this dangerous and sensual world.
Great start….and KYNAN!!
So as I’ve said before – Kynan is one of my faves and if you’ve read the Wicked Horse Vegas series – how could you NOT love him!!
Kynan and Joslyn had a young, first love 12 years ago. Then she broke it off due to a horrible injustice and to say he’s still bitter is a bit of an understatement. But circumstances bring Joslyn back into his life and we are in for an incredible ride.
“I’m a different man than I was when you knew me twelve years ago, Jos. I’m harder. Rougher. My…appetites are a bit different. You might fall into something you’re not ready for.” Oh my!
So Kynan is a great protector and these two have to work through their hurt feelings. But the chemistry is still there as well as the love and it’s a great story and you will really want to learn about the other members of Jameson Force Security.
I voluntarily requested and read an uncorrected advance reader copy.
Wow what an epic start to a new series! Completely devoured this book, the second chance trope isn’t normally my favourite but this was so well done. I loved the Evolution of Kynan and Jos’ love story. Cannot wait for more in this series!
There is nothing I love more than a good romantic suspense. Throw in the second-chance element that Code Name: Genesis possessed and I was all in for Sawyer Bennett’s new release. The opening had me on high alert and ready to solve the mystery of who the culprit threatening Joslyn was.
I really liked Jos. She was kind and talented but also quite lonely. And when her security and the sanctuary of her home were violated, she turned to the only place she could. To Kynan. The man who broke her heart years ago. Kynan was a force. Steely and strong and unapologetic. He owned who he was and made himself and his business a success.
He didn’t want to take this job. He didn’t want the feelings of ‘what if”. Didn’t want to put himself and his heart in a situation to get burned again. But he couldn’t say no. It was Joslyn. And when they finally saw each other again, the time and distance and life that had happened to the both of them faded. Their chemistry was still off the charts explosive and it was only a matter of time before they gave in.
With the threat ever escalating and Kynan’s team scrambling to get one step ahead of the stalker, it was a race against time to keep Joslyn safe. My heart was racing and I was reading as fast as my eyeballs would allow to see how it would all play out. Because holy moly that showdown was everything I didn’t know I wanted.
For as much as I loved the sweet slow-burn between Kynan and Jos, it was the other parts of the story that fell a bit flat. Especially the whole line centering around the relationship between Joslyn and her mother. However, the introduction of the other characters, Cruce and Saint, more than piqued my interest and I am looking forward to seeing where this series goes next.
Danger & Desire! This was an adrenaline rush filled with intrigue, danger, desire and love, that captured my attention from the beginning till the end. I have been waiting for the conclusion to Kyan McGrath and Joslyn Meyers’ story and this did not disappoint. A absolute fantastic start to a new series.
Twelve years ago they fell in love when he was her bodyguard. Now Joslyn needs his help to protect her from a stalker, but at first Kyan doesn’t want to help. But he is all in, once he finds out that the stalker almost killed her the night before. The chemistry between these two explodes off the page, as they try to lure the stalker in to try and catch him. But this stalker is relentless and clever with every move he makes. A thrilling and sexy ride you don’t want to miss.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Would you ask your ex to protect you from a stalker if it turned out he was the only one you could entrust your life to?
Kynan was going to turn her down…flat out!! When he heard her desperate plea for him to help her, he could not in good conscience walk away. This time, the stalker had actually penetrated her home and tried to strangle her. All Joslyn could think of after the police were done taking her statement, was to fly from Santa Barbara to Vegas and ask Kynan for help.
Twelve years had passed since they had broken up. Working together to catch her stalker was going to be very difficult. Their love had been true and powerful and not even time could erase all the emotions of their break up.
This is a brilliant romantic suspense story. All the emotions of ex-lovers and the suspense of a relentless stalker make this story an “edge of your seats” read.
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.
This was my first introduction to Kynan McGrath as I did not read the Wicked Horse Vegas series or the novella Wicked Force, but it was not necessary to enjoy this new series starter for Jameson Force Security. But I imagine fans of him before, will be thrilled that he is getting his own second-chance love story.
Kynan is a British private security contractor who has just bought out his partner to take his security business in new directions…like more off the books government or black ops type work, as well as moving it from Vegas to Pittsburgh. As he is working on assembling his new team of talented and highly intelligent and motivated individuals, his past comes calling.
His former love and now famous mega star ex, Joslyn Meyers is in need of protection. And even though she broke his heart and left him without reason over a decade ago, the protective side of him cannot leave her in danger. But he is still angry, bitter, untrusting, and hurt, and he is determined to keep her at a distance. He is not the same man she left year ago and has become more jaded, cynical, and has acquired some different tastes.
Joslyn Meyers is terrified and needs someone she can trust. And even though her reason for leaving him was based on a trust issue, she knows how serious he is about business and how good he is at protection. It is worth having to face her past in order to try to stay safe from a stalker. She has gone on to find success in all show business areas, but never really got over losing her first love.
Thus begins their story of reconnection, baring truths, and having to rely on each other. Although their interactions are initially awkward and full of misconceptions, eventually the truth will have to come out and they will have to deal with all of their unresolved feelings. Sparks are flying as they are trying to lure out her stalker once and for all so that she can move on with her life. And suddenly keeping Joslyn safe has become the most important mission of his life and failure is not an option. But they are up against a formidable opponent.
This is fast-paced and suspenseful, but also has an emotional second-chance love story. I enjoyed getting their dual points of view. It took me a bit to warm up to Kynan since his bitterness made him act like a jerk, but I ended up really liking him and them together. I was drawn in quickly and it kept my attention. I really liked Kynan’s new assembled team. They are all interesting with intriguing back stories. I am looking forward to their stories.
I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
This is the first book in a new series from this talented author, and what a perfect introduction this is! Kynan is the owner of the security company, and when he get a call for protection for a celebrity, he nearly refuses until he finds out who the celeb is. Joslyn and Kynan have a history and have not seen each other for years. Joslyn has a stalker and when she is attacked in her own home, she know there is only one man she can trust to protect her. This is a well written flawless story, which is intense, raw, gritty, heartbreaking, and filled with action, suspense, danger, deceit and love. I look forward to reading more in this fascinating series, and highly recommend this talented authors’ work for all second chance romance lovers.
I’m conflicted. I want to tell you to go read Wicked Force first, which is the prequel to Kynan and Joslyn’s story. Of course, you should read as many of Sawyer Bennett’s books as you can because they are all awesome! But, I had an idea already in my head of what Kynan and Joslyn were before Code Name: Genesis. Twelve years later, they are completely different people. Kynan acts like a total tool in the beginning. I wanted to slap him. Joslyn is a bit naive to have just left Kynan without a word, the way she did twelve years before but we see no signs that Kynan went after her. So, maybe the timing wasn’t right. Right?
I’m more of “a-few-years-later” second chance romance girl. Is twelve years too long? Meh. Maybe.
But, even after twelve years, it doesn’t take long for the sparks to start to fly. I was definitely intrigued. You can’t go wrong with the return of an alpha male boyfriend, fake relationship and a damsel in distress from a serious stalker. By the end, I was in tears. Good tears? Bad tears? Guess you’ll have to read to find out.
I give it 5 stars, if that’s any indication.
4.5 Stars!
What a thrilling start to Bennett’s new Jameson Force Security series! I have been so excited to find out what happened to Kynan and Joslyn after watching them fall in love in Wicked Force in Bennett’s Wicked Horse Vegas series. Kynan is the new owner of Jameson Force Security and has done well. He is getting bored with protecting entitled entertainers and is looking to form an elite force to take on more exciting and covert jobs. When Joslyn, the only woman he has ever loved, comes to him for help after an attempt on her life by a crazed stalker, he wants to turn her away, but his heart won’t let him. They separated years ago, suddenly, breaking both their hearts. Their misunderstanding causes tension between them, but their reemerging chemistry, and love, cannot be denied. But as they try to find her stalker, who is always a step ahead of them, Kynan feels extreme pressure over protecting the love of his life. It is a race against time to apprehend him before the stalker destroys them both. I loved how Bennett brought them back together, not dragging out the miscommunication. These are strong, smart characters who are unapologetic and fight for what they want. I enjoyed watching them reconnect, learning who they are today, as Kynan was investigating and building his new team. I loved this thrilling, provocative, and sexy story, and the twists and turns it took had me on the edge and totally engaged. I am so intrigued by Kynan’s new team and I can’t wait for more from Bennett’s new Jameson Force Security series!
4.5 Stars!
Joslyn Meyers is a world famous actor and singer in Hollywood. Originally from Montana, she’s now a celebrity living in Santa Barbara. Her life is thrown into chaos when she suddenly has a crazy stalker after her. He’s been harassing her for a while, but she didn’t realize what a real threat he was until he made an attempt on her life. She’s in serious danger and she knows she needs help. There are a lot of great security firms out there, but the only person she trusts to protect her is her ex Kynan McGrath. He owns and runs Jameson Force Security, and he’s the best. She hasn’t seen him in about a decade, but she has to convince him to take her case.
Kynan McGrath lives and works in Vegas where his company has became the go-to private security contractor. He recently decided to expand their covert operations part and they weren’t focusing as much on celebrities, so when his ex Joslyn shows up in Vegas wanting him to guard her he first says no. Then he learns how serious things are and decides he’s the one for the job. He would catch the psychopath that was after Joslyn, and then they would part ways. He would keep things professional and there would be nothing between them but business. She’s nothing but a client, but that doesn’t mean he can deny how beautiful she is or how she still has the power to affect him after all these years.
Joslyn is stressed and scared. Her life lately had become about fear, survival, and fighting her feelings for Kynan that are resurfacing. He’d once been the love of her life, and being around him was difficult. Her British ex was even more gorgeous than she remembered. The years had been good to him even though he was a little harder and rougher around the edges. They’d split up twelve years ago after she thought he’d betrayed her, and it hadn’t been pretty. She’d gone on to chase her dreams and pursue her career, and now she learns they were both manipulated, and everything they thought was a lie. After she learns the truth leaving Kynan is her biggest regret.
Kynan dated Joslyn when she was a 19 yr. old Vegas pop singer early in her career. They were in love and then it ended abruptly when she left him behind without so much as a backward glance. He’d followed her career and always wondered what if? He was bitter for years and had thought he’d moved past it, but she still got to him. The connection was still there and he realizes she’s more than just a job to him. They both soon come to know they never really moved on after they broke up. Have they missed their chance or is there something still between them worth saving and fighting for?
Code Name: Genesis is (James Force Security, #1) by Sawyer Bennett. I first met this couple in their novella Wicked Force, and was happy to get more of their story as they find their way back to one another. This was a fantastic second chance romance full of love, passion, action, mystery, danger, and excitement. I really enjoyed it and look forward to more in this series!
Code Name: Genesis is the first book in Sawyer Bennett’s all new Jameson Force Security series. This is Kynan and Joslyns story. We met Kynan in Bennett’s Wicked Horse series and now we are finally getting his story!! A decade ago Joslyn broke Kynans heart when she left him to pursue her career. Now she is back with a stalker after her. Kynan reluctantly agreed to help her but still hasn’t forgiven what she did. What happens when he finds out the real reason she left? With a stalker on her trail will Kynan be able to keep her safe or will he lose her again? I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
What could be better than the first book in a Sawyer Bennett series? It being a second chance romance between Kynan and Joslyn. Twelve years ago they were brought together when he was hired as her bodyguard and close quarters had them quickly falling in love. A misunderstanding and insecurities and Joslyn left with no explanation. Now, she has a stalker, one who has broken into her home and attacked her and left her bruised and scared and she has showed up at his Vegas office to hire him for protection. Kynan refuses at first until he finds out she has been attacked and then all bets are off. Just wait until he finds out why she left him 12 years ago…Can they find their way back together? This story hit all the feels and I could not turn the pages fast enough. Just enough heat and just enough suspense and don’t forget this is the start of a new series and we are introduced to a whole new set of characters. I cannot wait to see where this series goes in the future. Bring on the next one! Quick!
Definitely recommend this one!!!!!!!
Confession Time – I was nervous going into Code Name: Genesis. Kynan is a character that we have seen off and on in the Wicked Horse Vegas series and I was a little worried about being able to embrace him as a romantic lead. Another reason I was nervous, after reading Wicked Force (the novella were young Kynan and Joslyn first meet) I was a little worried about how they would be with each other here.
I should have known better than to worry – Ms. Bennett took wonderful care of these characters and made them and their story one that was easy to embrace. Having seen the earlier glimpses of Kynan (both in the novella as a young man and in the Wicked Horse series) actually made it easier to get to know him and like him here because it was easier to understand how his past impacted him.
Kynan and Jos’s story is a great starting place for the Jameson Force Security series and the future players are woven in seamlessly to the intrigue that surrounds these two reconnecting after 12 years apart. One of the things I appreciated most about Code Name: Genesis is that the issues that separated Kynan and Joslyn were dealt with in such a way that it was believable and (relatively) easy for them to move past. This allowed the true conflict of the story to be focused on the things that brought them back together in the first place.
Based on Code Name: Genesis – I am excited to see what is in store for the Jameson Force Security series. There are several interesting secondary characters here that I can’t way to see more of!
A total addictive adrenaline rush. In an awesome way only Sawyer Bennett can create. The thrilling world of professional security service meets the glamour world of Hollywood in Code Name: Genesis. And the effect is blasts and sparks!
Kynan Mcgrath, the owner and head of Jameson Security is a man who craves control in every aspect of his life. Sawyer Bennett’s men are always mouth watering good and Kynan is a perfect example. An arrogant, confident, efficient and dominating alpha man who thrives in danger. I was waiting for Joslyn and his story for long. Joslyn Myers, the star Hollywood singer actress asks for his help to save her from a dangerous stalker. But there is a bitter and painful past standing between them. And none of them has actually moved on. With Joslyn’s life and their heart at stake, can they find a way out?
I loved the transformation in Kynan and Joslyn’s character in this book. The past has changed them both. And their chemistry is way too hot to handle. It gave me real goosebumps. Joslyn is a brave, kind and amazing woman. I couldn’t help but smile when she gave Kynan a piece of her mind for his rude behaviour. The sex scenes were incredibly erotic with the spicy BDSM flavors. The story was full of overwhelming emotions. The mystery and thrill of chasing the stalker added to the uniqueness of the story.
Sawyer Bennett’s story telling kept me mesmerized and intrigued from the first chapter to the last. The intense, explosive and soulful love story of Kynan and Joslyn was simply brilliant!
Received ARC for Honest Review
Bennett did it again! I loved Code Name: Genesis – it has everything I love in a romantic suspense story! Alpha man, check! Second chance at love, check! A crazy stalker ready to whisk away the heroine, check! A fantastic secondary cast, check!
Another great read and start to a new series from Sawyer Bennett! I was really sucked into this story from the first chapter and read it all in one sitting – I had to finish it as soon as I started reading! Kynan and Joslyn were in love over ten years ago and thought each other was their true love, but after a misunderstanding, Joslyn runs to launch her career, leaving Kynan in the dust. Fast-forward to 12 years later and Joslyn runs to Kynan’s security business after she was attacked and almost killed by a stalker. While Kynan is initially not interested in helping her because of his feelings attached to their previous relationship, as soon as he sees her and the bruises around her neck, all his feelings come rushing back and vows to do protect her while taking her stalker down. Like most first books in a series, a portion of the book is introducing us to the other characters that will fill the next books within the series, but I found that I was excited to get to know who we would see in the future. The flow of this book was great, and the climactic moment was so big I was on the edge of my seat anticipating what happens when Joslyn’s stalker gets to her. Overall, it was a great book, which I totally expected from Sawyer, and I can’t wait for the next installment in this series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Good 4 stars read with suspense and heat. It lacked the heat and passion I’ve found in this author’s earlier books. By no means is it bad, it’s easy to read and entertaining.
This is the second book in this series and it can be read as a standalone.
Barrett is a scientist with a brilliant mind on the verge of discovering something groundbreaking but her life’s in danger. Cruce is hired to protect her and he gets to be more than a hired help….
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
Well described characters
Hot love scenes
Happy ending
*A copy of this book was gifted to me from the author and I freely give my honest review*
I knew from the novella, Wicked Force, Joslyn and Kynan’s back story that this full novel was going to be exciting and packed full of drama. It had me enraptured from the start and at certain times I couldn’t look away.
Joslyn hasn’t seen Kynan for 12 years but she is in danger and the only one she fully trusts is him. He may have broken her heart all those years ago, but deep down she knows he will protect her from the stalker. Kynan has a different version on how things ended, so when Jos’s name is bought up as a new client, he says no and in case you didn’t hear him, that was a hell NO! That is until he learns there was an attempt on her life so the team at The Jameson Group go about finding the creep causing havoc in Jos’s life.
With their past history, Kynan is a bit of a brat to start with. He comes across as a strong dominant character but he has a huge heart that he knows only belongs to Joslyn. He needs to curb his anger if there is any chance of a reconciliation. For Jos, she is still just as enthralled with Kynan and is a kitten in his hands. She may make a few mistakes along the way with learning how to confide in him which puts herself in peril.
I am thrilled that there will be four books in this series and I can’t wait to read them all.
