He’s such a bad idea. This roommate thing is not going to work.Kendra is a messy-haired, pajama-pants-wearing little ball of sass. The first thing she does is try to make friends with my random from the night before—giving her all sorts of bad ideas.I don’t date. I don’t use words like girlfriend, or I’ll text you later. Fck that. Relationships aren’t for me. I’ll give a woman a night she won’t … aren’t for me. I’ll give a woman a night she won’t forget, but once it’s over, I’m out.
I keep people at a distance, and I have my reasons. But Kendra starts getting under my skin. And when my life crashes and burns—literally—Kendra is the only person I can count on.
I’m not built for relationships, and Kendra is not a one night stand. But living with this girl sleeping one room away might just be the thing that kills me.
Cocky Roommate is a stand-alone hate-to-lovers roommate romance with a definite HEA. It contains mature language and content, and is intended for a mature audience. Fair warning, Weston is a straight up ahole. Or is he?***

What a fun book! I read it just to be supportive of authors during cocky gate, and also Claire Kingsley just seems like the nicest human! So I dove in. It will not be my last Claire Kingsley book. This book was super fun and cute and sweet and sexy and I loved it. I recommend.
Well, hello Weston……think I have found another book boyfriend to add to my favorites list. Although he was a total jerk in the beginning to Kendra, I love how she was there for him when nobody else was. She showed compassion and friendship to him when he needed it most, even if he might not have deserved it. Weston saw a different side of her and realized there was more to her than he had originally thought. He definitely had some swoon-worthy moments mixed in with the bad ones, but Weston had never met a girl like Kendra. She was the perfect match for him in every way possible. Absolutely love this story and hopefully we get to see more of them in the next book!
There’s nothing like finding a hot, sexy, broody alpha asshole.
It’s one of those things that happens often. Cocky, arrogant, and broody all rolled into one neat little (well, not little) package. Add in a phobia for relationships, money, and the ability to push people away and you’ve got yourself the perfect Alpha Asshole.
Meet Weston.
He’s that perfect culmination of all the things you want in your Book Boyfriend. And he is the last thing Kendra expected when her brother, Caleb, said he had a colleague who needed a place to stay for a while.
I couldn’t put this book down. I mean, I had to, but only because I have a job and that job does not allow me to sit around with a book in my hand. So, Weston and Kendra are, like, the perfect match. Weston is all super asshole, but you know there’s more to him. You’re given glimpses into why he behaves the way he does. And Kendra. Well, you met Kendra in Book Boyfriend. She was smart and sassy and just so giving and caring. It’s no surprise she is the perfect roommate.
I know I said you could find those asshole traits in any book boyfriend, but they won’t look quite as good on anyone else. Weston wears that arrogant asshole card with such style that I couldn’t resist him. You won’t be able to resist him either.
And just know he does the big gesture. If you did read Book Boyfriend and you managed to meet Alex and Mia, just know that Weston’s grand gesture is better than Alex’s grand gesture. And that says so, so much.
I’ve already downloaded the next book. This series is that good.
Condescending beast
Enemies to lovers is my least favorite romantic trope, so I had a hard time with the beginning of this book, while not really enemies, Weston was condescending and cruel to his poor roommate, Kendra. He is staying short term with her while his house is remodeled, and the whole situation is just so beneath the arrogant surgeon. She works from home, and Weston is not impressed with her work from home wardrobe or her house. Kendra is like a puppy, though, she keeps trying to get Weston to like her, to open up to her, to share her life with him. It isn’t until Weston accidentally sees Kendra naked that his thinking shifts about her. Weston thinks maybe he’ll give her a try, and the sparks fly. He is still a condescending jerk to her, but the conflict and resolution was worth the wait. I have been assured that Weston is nicer in the next book, so I’m looking forward to reading Hot Single Dad!
This is by far my favorite story by this author! All of her works are amazing but this was the story that I will read again. The story starts out with Kendra coming home from a business trip to her home and having coffee with her “new roommate” only to find out that she is the one night stand of her real roommate: Weston. The hate-to-lovers aspect of this story was great and I really loved the push and pull between the characters and their new developing feelings.
Kendra is the ultimate woman that one would want as a best friend. She is sweet, sassy, loyal, caring and amazingly multifaceted. Weston is an alpha male who has been hurt in the past and doesn’t know how to deal with his emotions and feelings. He is seen in the story and by others as uncaring and cold but I truly believe that he was not taught how to be open and there for comes off as disinterested or harsh.
The humor between the characters, the secondary characters, the plot and the development of this story really added to the richness. I read the story and then sat and thought about it for a while. There was something about this story that just hit all the right buttons. I could not put a finger on it until last night, lying in bed, I had a lightbulb moment. This is the perfect 1980’s John Hughes movie material.
It has the main female character (Kendra) that is sassy, strong, but a bit unsure of her future; the alpha male (Weston) who is a bit of a jerk and disliked in the first half of the story. It has the best friend who is the background heart of the story and keeps the heart and positivity flowing. It has all the amazing secondary characters that add depth and great lines. And it as the happy ever after that we all expect. I don’t know, maybe it is just me, but I feel like if John Hughes was still alive this is just the story he would make into a blockbuster romantic movie.
Short review. It took me awhile to warm up to Weston because of his attitude however once more starts to be reveal about him I started to like him and root for him and Kendra to get together. Kendra’s patience with Weston at the beginning seems unwarranted, the reason for her patience is that she sees through his attitude and sees that that his attitude is a shield that he uses to not let others in so he doesn’t get hurt.
Loved it….10 Stars!!!!
First of all, let me just say that I’m still crashing from the wonderful high of reading all of Claire’s novels, and most especially Book Boyfriend!!
Now on to Cocky Roommate with Weston Reid & Alex Lawson’s sister Kendra. I’m not ashamed to admit that I liked Weston from the moment he entered the picture, with his brooding ways and brash tongue; there were times where the lines were blurred between me wanting to smack him, laugh at him, or hug him!! He’s definitely an @$$ to the fifth power, but dude is real, straight-no-chaser, yet somehow vulnerable! And Kendra, I already said that Mia is the perfect Book Girlfriend, but so is Kendra…despite Weston’s “brute” nature and cocky mouth, she was feisty, but kind and generous….she was there for him when there was no one else–no questions asked…she deserves a freaking medal for being able to break through Weston’s armor of protection by simply being who she was…
And then Claire digs deeper into Weston’s psyche and readers now understand what’s truly beneath that jack@$$ armor he wears….the heart of a man who is afraid to love or let anyone get close; losing one parent & left with the other who is even more of an @$$ …oh boy!! Claire Kingsley continues to outdo herself with each novel and I am excited for what she’s going to write next!!
As they say, “still waters run deep” and that is true about Weston in COCKY ROOMMATE. His moodiness, lack of emotion and sparse communication contribute to the facade he embraces of being a real jerk. Kendra, however, doesn’t fill silence with inane chatter, knows Weston needs her even when he doesn’t, and sees beyond the cloak he wears to protect himself.
It will be easy to dislike Weston at times, but as you read, the bricks in his wall start to fall away. His transformation is what makes this book such a great read.
Kendra is far too good for Weston, but the way that Claire Kingsley cleverly told this tale had me coming back for more.
I really enjoyed this enemies to lovers/roommate storyline. Great banter and sizzling hot chemistry. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
When a miscommunication occurs between Kendall and her brother, she ends up with a male roommate. An extremely cocky, rude, but gorgeous a$$6*£e. Weston is a plastic surgeon with a thriving practice and a total lack of need for relationships. Of any kind. When he meets Kendall he can’t believe her. She’s chatting with the hookup he had and offering to make breakfast when he just want the woman gone. Things don’t go well after that. But after an accident happens, both of them start to see past initial impressions each had of the other, and that’s when the fun begins!
Perfect grumpy hero and sunshine heroine story. Weston starts off as a complete jerk but as the story goes on he completely redeems himself. I love Kendra and you can’t help but fall in love with her. Lucy Rivers and Teddy Hamilton were a great pair to bring Weston and Kendra’s story to life and the narration by them was amazing. This was a fun story and would definitely recommend.
Another amazing book by Claire Kingsley! My absolute favorite trope, Hate to Love! And roommates to boot. Love the chemistry between Kendra & Weston. This is my favorite way to hear Teddy Hamilton narrate. He has perfected the cocky alpha male narration! And Lucy Rivers was great as Kendra.
Wow!! I LOVED this book!! I’ll be honest I was nervous…I hate when the H is such a man whore but this book was so good!!!
Book two in the series. This time up is Weston Reid (colossal asshole) plastic surgeon and Kendra Lawson ( freelance book editor) You will most likely hate Weston and his douchebag ways for about 50% of the book. Kendra is the girl who takes care of everyone but herself. The were just perfect together after he smarten up.
Weston is a grade-A jerk who starts out pretty unlikable. He is closed off emotionally, is mean and condescending to Kendra, and has been operating as a total man-whore. Kendra is sassy, spunky, and smart. But above all else, she is kind. Over time the reader comes to realize that Weston has not experienced much kindness in his life and begins to feel some empathy for Weston. I think it says a lot that the author took a character I could not like in the beginning of the book and made me fall for him completely by the end.
I love that they are not drawn together initially by a physical attraction. What brings them together is Kendra being herself. She takes care of those around her: it is what she does. I love that Kendra does not try to change Weston, but that he changes because of the impact her kindness and caring has on his life. I love her family and the support they give each other. I love that Weston being around Kendra and her family allows him to stand up for what is right in other relationships in his life. This book has plenty of steam and some laughs. We really should all be a little more like Kendra and we would make the world a better place.
This book is written in fist person with dual POV. I believe that is a critical component of the reader being able to fall for Weston in the end.
Weston and Kendra were fun. What’s not to love about a sexy Doctor who finds love when he’s not looking. Easy, low drama, and just enough swoon. Perfect.
Another winner! Hero starts off as a real jerk, but you grow to love him. The heroine is a kick and not one to be kicked around! This was fun to read.
3.5 stars
Really liked this one. It wasn’t as funny as Book Boyfriend, more of a serious story, but still good. It was nice to see the rest of the family that we met in the previous book, and I love that it’s set in the Pacific Northwest where I live.
I love when grumpy men get handed their heart on a platter by finding love in a real person…this made me goggle when he pitched in with the sex scene she was helping her author with.. yet another entertaining read.
