From New York Times Bestsellers, Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland, comes a sexy new standalone novel. He was someone who belonged in my wildest fantasies instead of a rest stop in the middle of Nebraska.A sexy, cocky, Australian named Chance was the last person I expected to run into on my cross-country drive. When my car broke down, we made a deal. Next thing I knew, we were traveling together, … made a deal. Next thing I knew, we were traveling together, spending sexually-tense nights in hotels and taking unplanned detours.
My ordinary road trip turned into the adventure of a lifetime. It was all fun and games until things got intense.
I wanted him, but Chance wouldn’t make a move. I thought he wanted me too, but something was holding him back.
I wasn’t supposed to fall for the cocky bastard, especially when I knew we’d be going our separate ways.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.
Author’s note – Cocky Bastard is a full-length standalone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

This is the very first book I read of this writing duo and it has become one of my very favorite books! It’s witty, sexy and charming and I never read books more than once, but this is one that I just may have to read again!!!
“It’s okay. I already knew this is how it was meant to go. This is my fate. My final atonement for my ultimate sin.”
This is the second book I read by Clarissa Wild and I really enjoyed it. I loved that it was different. I have read many dark romance books but this one was a bit different though. There were a couple of plot twists which I didn’t see coming. I am happy that some things weren’t predictable.
Marcus is part of an evil underground empire but is sick and tired of being part of it. He has done so many evil things that he now seeks to atone for his crimes. I really liked him. I was happy he wasn’t this asshole abusive master. Because there are so many books out there that have those. So it was refreshing to read about one who was different.
Ava has been a slave/servant from a very young age and doesnt even remember anything from her past life. The moment Ava comes under control of Marcus her life changes. It was heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time to see how Ava became more than just a slave. That she became a person that matters. I loved the attraction between the two but is it her nature to please the reason for that or does she really feel something for him??
Half way through the book a third character is added: Daniel, who is a servant like Ava. It was amazing seeing them interact and being free with each other. Marcus is the master so Ava was never really comfortable with him. Both Daniel and Ava grew so much, I really loved seeing those moments!
There is so many things that happen in this book but I don’t want to spoil anything. I definitely recommend this book! Before I forget: THERE ARE SO MANY HOT AND SEXY SCENES IN THIS BOOK!!! I bookmarked them all to reread later on 😉
I liked it. I thought it was a good story, I did find it weird with the goat though. It didn’t blow my mind or anything, but this cover is sure hot. I did like that the first half was in Audrey ‘s POV and the second half was his POV. Boy, he was fighting hard for her love in his half. Border line hot creeper alert! Overall, the book was entertaining and I enjoyed reading it. I think the goat did me in. I don’t have anything against them, just not sure why it was in the book. Weird.
Wow.
Every time I read a book written by Penelope Ward, I am amazed at how different it is from the last one I read. Where she comes up with half the ideas, I’ll never know.
Now I also know that I need to catch up on my Vi Keeland reading, because this book was awesome!!
We meet Chance (THE Cocky Bastard) and Aubrey (the Princess) at a rest stop along the highway. Aubrey is leaving behind the life she knew to try her hand on the West Coast.
With a rocky intro, the two meet again in the parking lot where Chance has a problem getting his motorcycle to start (yeah, he rides a bike *swoon*), and Aubrey realizes that she has a flat tire.
Being the *ahem* gentleman, Chance helps her out, and they embark on the remainder of the journey together.
Add to this a fainting goat (oh, that goat had me laughing so hard at times!!), and a few secrets, and the story takes off.
Loved the story, fell in love with Chance, laughed, cried and prayed for their happily ever after.
I bought Cocky Bastard ages ago, but just never got around to reading it. Funny how frequently this happens to me, huh? Well, with all the hubbub a couple weeks back with “cocky” books in the romance community, I decided there was no time like the present to read it. I wanted to throw my support behind the authors who came before and what better way to do that than read it and promote it? (Assuming I enjoyed it, anyhow.) It was a fun, sweet and sexy read that even hit me in the feels a couple of times.
I was hooked on Chance and Aubrey’s story from the very start with their adorable meet cute. I’m a sucker for road trip books and the setting, combined with their banter, made the book magical right off the bat. I listened to the audiobook and I found myself making excuses to be able to listen longer. More time on the treadmill? Sure. Extra time cleaning? Why not. Traffic sucks? Oh well, at least I have this book to listen to! I laughed and swooned my way through the beginning and my heart broke right along with Aubrey’s when he disappeared.
But man, the reasoning behind it? It totally threw me for a loop. I didn’t see that coming. As much as I hated how things went down between them initially, I couldn’t help but love watching him grovel and try to win her back. The cocky bastard had a heart of gold and, more importantly maybe, he wore that heart on his sleeve when it came to Aubrey. They gave me the swoons and the feels and lots of laughs, too. I couldn’t have asked for more. Oh, and did I mention there’s a goat? A blind, fainting goat? Amazing. I loved that goat just about as much as I did Chance and Aubrey.
Even though I already owned the ebook of Cocky Bastard, I decided to snag the audio from the Audible Romance Package. I enjoyed listening to it so very much. Both Michelle Ferguson and Aaron Abano are new-to-me narrators, but I thoroughly enjoyed their performances. They brought Aubrey and Chance to life in a great way. The story was fantastic and their narration only added to it. No matter how you choose to read this one, you’re in for a treat.
FAVORITE QUOTES
“So yeah, you’re right. I’m not attracted to you. It’s more like I’m captivated by you.”
“I’m sorry, Princess. For everything. For hurting you. For leaving you behind. For not being there when you woke up. For not being there every day since.”
“Sometimes, it takes losing everything to make you realize what you really need.”
“You want to sin with me. Princess.”
Did I ever.
From the moment you meet Chance Batemen you will want to sin too. He catapulted his way on to my favorite book boyfriend list. He is sexy, has a Harley, is witty, is an Aussie and is…cocky.
“I’m not attracted to you. It’s more like I’m captivated by you.”
This book had it all. Romance, sexual tension, touch of angst, humor, second chances, and my favorite…witty banter. You could tell right off the bat that these two had way more than just physical attraction. They had an instant chemistry with their jabs about vibrators and comments about cock sauce. Toss in a “blind” goat and this book is perfection.
I knew a collaboration between Penelope and Vi would be special, but this bordered with magical! I rock a thick Boston accent, so I grabbed on to the Aussie accent big time. I could hear it in my head…AH-BREE…HUE-MA, so that is the absolute only thing that was missing was that he was not reading it to me so I could hear that amazing Aussie accent instead of me saying it in my head.
We all love a story of chance. Chance meetings, second chances and Chance Bateman. Chance will make your heart flutter, beat faster, break it, warm it and down-right melt it all in the same story.
The epilogue!!!! Oh my word, it knocked my socks off because after all of the awesome chances in this story, who doesn’t love a “second Chance”?
Chance and Aubrey had the kind of emotional connection and sexual chemistry that makes for such a gratifying romance. And their banter? So clever!
A flat-tired car and a broken down motorcycle led to a convenience store selling Obama bobbleheads and a road trip that Aubrey Bloom would never forget. Meeting a gorgeous cocky bastard named Chance Bateman was the icing to the cake. And boy what a ride they’d been in..
Okay, so this is another collab work by two of my favorites, Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward and I enjoyed the road trip I’ve just been into. Who wouldn’t fall for a man named Chance with the Aussie accent and darn good looks and kickass motorcyle? Hmmm.
I love love love Aubrey and Chance’s characters respectively. The road trip they were on opened up little hidden desires and loosened up some tight knots within themselves. Both characters’ charismatic factor was adorable and the sexual tension sparked and bursted and exploded like fireworks on the 4th of July. Getting to know each other through Obama’s bobblehead, casual talks in different diners, helping (and adopting!) a fainted goat and sleeping in a tent, shouting at the top of the Grand Canyon plus a date with a couples massage on the side, what more could I ask for in a road trip? Hmmm… A Las Vegas marriage maybe?
But a detour two years too late opened up the floodgates and brought forth the heartaches of two doomed lovers.
I dunno about you, but I definitely had the time of my life with Aubrey and Chance. Reading their own respective voices made me understand their personalities, but let me tell you, I love being in Chance head better. He was just so impossibly swoon-worthy that I wish he were real and alive in front of me.
If there’s one thing I can always count on Keeland and Ward, that’s their 100% engagingly hot tandem factor. They always lift up my mood after a heavy and tiring day, making my night stress free and exciting and special.
So far, I’ve enjoyed great five days and a couple of years in one sitting. Vi and Penelope never fail to amaze me!
Loved every minute of this book!! Chance/Cocky and Aubrey/Princess met completely by happenstance. What followed was a interesting road trip together. With Chance dropping sexual innuendos right and left, Aubrey loosening up some, and a goat, you never know exactly what will happen. Especially since it seems Chance is hiding something from Aubrey.
I love the instant connection between these two. I have found a new favorite book!
