Calle Stevens wasn’t what one would call a risk-taker. She was steady. She was even. She was . . . Pregnant. Oh God. How was she pregnant? Well, she knew the how part, but that wasn’t the point. Mistakes happened, condoms failed, birth control pills didn’t work, and . . . she was pregnant by a man who’d broken up with her via text and then readily offered to sign away his parental rights when … she’d told him she was keeping the baby. Her life was ruined. She’d just been hired as an assistant coach for the professional hockey team, the San Francisco Gold. She didn’t have any family in the area, didn’t have a partner. How was she going to have a baby? But then Cooper. A star player for the team, he’d found out about the baby and had insisted on coming with her to her first appointment, then had held her hair back when she’d spent the majority of her time christening the porcelain goddess before coming to the second, and then the third, and the fourth and— In fact, as much as she tried to push him away, he refused to keep his distance. And then when she was having a particularly weak moment, feeling fat and gross and completely unappealing, he held her like she was precious and . . . he kissed her. Then didn’t stop. Calle didn’t know what was scarier, the kiss or that she didn’t want him to stop either.

I like the Gold Series. The “players” are funny and flawed. Really great read
I couldn’t put it down
I loved the push and pull of this book. Characters were great.
I thought it went on too long. The sex scenes basically were the whole book. That can get boring. I also don’t think that it was realistic.
My first book by Elise Faber and I loved it. Snarky, fun, and real emotions. The whole “women competing with men in hockey” was a little, “really?” But she made it work within the story line. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Who wouldn’t love a guy like Coop?
Now THIS was a nice change from the norm. A female hockey player turned NHL Assistant Coach. Not only that but a tiny one that is extremely intelligent and knows her hockey skills. It made her showing up the men on her team even better than expected. Hilarious even.
Coop…be still my heart. Everything a woman would want in a man. Not cocky or a player, all perfect including the audiobooks he listens to.
A man that even when he has the woman still has the need to woo and take care of her. What is not to love about him!
This was the first book out of the series I picked up being as it was a freebie and I love it! Did not feel like I missed out but made me crave wanting to read the others.
There were two epilogues and the second one pretty much just opens up for the next book in the series. Leaves you with a tad bit on a hanger but not enough to be frustrating.
Overall I really loved this and I want more.
I love Coop. He is swoon worthy and a testament to good men and gentlemen out there. His swoon worthy and persistent nature to win over Calle’s heart was adorable. His little quirks about his car and cheese and audio romance books. Lol. I get her reluctance with her job and crap ex history. I liked that there wasn’t really a crazy drama where we question their status. But wow. Scary moments for them. Loved the book.
I know you guys can tell from reading the blurb to this book that it’s going to be a sweet read. Don’t be fooled, that’s not all it is 🙂 Elise makes sure to mix the sweet and sexy deliciously well!!
Cooper Cooper Cooper *happy sigh* Elise wrote the perfect hero for this story. Cooper has been sitting on the sidelines waiting for his moment to get the girl. The girl being our heroine, Calle. I loved everything about this storyline. Elise created an environment where friendship could bloom to more perfectly. She unfolded their relationship in such a swoony way that my heart is still pitter-pattering over it all!
The thing I love most about this author is her ability to adapt her writing style and voice to any trope. I’ve now read quite a few of her books and I can tell you has hit the spot all over the place. She’s become a go-to author for me in a very short period of time!
Elise Faber is a new author to me, and the Gold are a new series to me. This book had all the gooey feels with a slow burn romance.
Coasting is one of the final books in the Gold Hockey Series, however it can be read as a stand-alone. This was a first read in the series for me. I didn’t feel any plot gaps or disconnect from the story. Ms. Faber does a great job of pulling the details necessary to fill in any possible gaps. She manages it in an off hand casual manner which I love as it didn’t feel forced and helped cement some friendships within the story for me.
This book is Calle and Coops story.
Calle is a former USA National Women’s Hockey Player whose career was ended with a nasty hit on the ice. Now she’s a coach for the Gold. She’s also unexpectedly pregnant.
Coop is a player on the Gold who has followed Calle’s career both on and off the ice. He’s attracted to her, but doesn’t feel he can act on his feelings due to her position within the organization.
Coop happens to be collateral damage to Calle’s temper when she tells the father of her child that she’s pregnant and the father responds in a horrible way.
Then Coop helps Calle get to her first doctor’s appointment. Through a series of very determined friendly maneuvering by the clinical staff, Coop finds himself with a front row seat to the appointment. I have to admit the doctor’s office scenes cracked me up. I’ve been offices that move in that manner. The realism of the situation is hysterical. It also kicks off the romancing of Calle.
Ms. Faber writes some strong, kick butt women. Particularly in a male dominated environment. She graces her female characters with just enough moments of self uncertainty to make them worm further into your heart. You find yourself wanting to support them like they’re members of your circle. Calle is no different. Strong, determined, and wondering if any one can REALLY love all of her.
Ms. Faber also writes an impressive male character. Coop is a strong silent type. He keeps his feelings and thoughts close, but he does all the little things that let a person know he really sees them. From saltines and ginger ale for rampant morning sickness, to peanut butter, to books and apps that Calle mentions in passing to him; Coop lets her know he’s there. It’s like reading a warm hug. The kind that pulls you in and makes you feel safe.
Coop also manages to be this person without stomping all over Calle’s career, her relationships with other people, and is respectful to her as his coach. Just, one he sneaks hand warmers to before games.
Coop isn’t the only well detailed male character in the story. From Bernard, Calle’s boss with a parental protective streak for her, to her agent Devon, and Coop’s own father. These gentlemen all have strong personalities, but treat others with respect and care. The players that move within the story share these qualities as well. They also still manage to be big bad NHL gods at the same time. Ms. Faber has a gift in writing her people.
I think what I enjoyed the most about this book was the slow journey of the plot. You know the end goal of the book almost immediately. Calle is pregnant. She’s been left. She’s had a crush on Coop for years. Coop has been attracted to Calle for awhile. He’s looking for a relationship. He’d like to find someone like Calle.
The story could be written at a very base level with a lot of wit, some dialogue, sneaky steamy scenes, a fight..the usual formula. Ms. Faber takes the road less traveled (Yes. Frost.) She leads us on a gentle journey of two people learning to show each other love and care in big and small ways. She utilized her supporting cast to help unveil some personality traits, flaws and backstory in a seamless manner that isn’t forced or planted. I liked the pace and tone of the book. I felt like I was discovering a new relationship myself.
As for Coop and Calle, of course they get their happily ever after, but this truly a story of the journey being so much more than the destination.
LOVE this Series!!! Elise really hit the net with this one. In this book you get a mix of sweet, sexy, funny and angsty. I love how Cooper just weasels his way into Calle’s life by accidentally overhearing her. He makes it to her doctor’s appointments and hears the baby’s heartbeat, and instantly falls in love. They have been dancing around the super attraction to each other for years, but since she is a coach on his team, they cannot go there. I loved reading this book, it was just so perfect!!!
I seriously loved Cooper and Calle! He really did everything possibly to show her how he felt for her. Poor Calle had such awful luck in love and didn’t know anything different. Cooper had me constantly swooning.
Coasting is the eighth book in Gold Hockey series, and featuring Calle and Cooper. The story is sweet, emotional, and easy read. It drew me in and I read it all at once. I haven’t read the other books in this series, but I instantly liked Calle and Cooper. Calle finds herself in a predicament, and Cooper is just the man to show her that he has her back no matter what. Seriously he is totally swoon worthy. They have such intense chemistry. I liked that past characters are in this story too. Looking forward to reading more books from this author.
I loved Coasting! This is the 8th book in the Gold Hockey series but can be read as a stand alone. The author creates such an amazing story with fantastic characters. I liked the unique characters & the story line was fresh & really well written.
Can’t wait to read more in this series & by this author.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I absolutely loved Coop and Calle! She finds out she is pregnant and her ex wants nothing to do with her or the baby, but that’s ok she expected as much and she knows she can and will do it on her own. Coop just happens to be in the right place at the right time and finds the news out right away and manages to help her get to her first appointment and then somehow ended up inside the room with her. Once he sees the baby he is hooked he has always had a thing for Calle but once he sees that baby all he could think was they both were his. He fights for Calle when she doesn’t want him to after all he is just like all the other guys.. just like her ex and is going to leave once he gets bored. He has to prove that he is in for the long haul.
Which was when her tongue went on another mutiny. “I-don’t-want-you-to-kiss-me-because-I-just-puked.” His brows lifted. “What was that?” Oh God. She spun around, hands coming up to cover her face. She couldn’t say it again. She couldn’t—
I freaking loved how alpha Coop could be and how he pushed his way into Calle’s life and made her feel safe enough to finally trust him. Must read book!
I have received a free copy of this book for an honest review.
I really liked this book, I’ve enjoyed reading this series! I can’t wait to see what comes next.
Coasting is book #8 in the Gold Hockey series by Elise Faber. This is Cooper and Callie’s story. Callie is the assistant coach who has found out that she’s pregnant from her ex- boyfriend. Cooper is the offense player on the team and he’s had the hots for Callie for several years. He’s made sure to always be there for her but never acted on his feelings. Now Callie is pregnant and determined to do her job, not let her pregnancy effect her job. She doesn’t want to be seen as weak. Cooper is determined to now show Callie that he is the perfect man for her and from there the story just heats up. There is drama, angst, romance , humor, passion and feels. Good addition to the Gold Hockey series.
My Rating: 4.4 stars *******
Elise has written another fantastic book in the Gold Hockey series! I loved it! Calle and Coop were great characters! They were great for each other! They were both were attracted to each other for years, but didn’t act on it. When Calle found out she was pregnant by her ex, Coop was there for her. He was going to show her how he felt about her and that he wasn’t going anywhere. Everyone in her life, including the ex and her father, had let her down so Coop showed her nothing but support. Coasting was an amazing, heartwarming story that I enjoyed very much! If you enjoy sport romance then Coasting is the book for you!
I wish more authors realized how vital it is to have the reader engaged from the start of the book – because Elise Faber has that down to an art. Calle, herself a national team hockey player, now an NHL coach, is dumped by her ex when she falls pregnant after a night with him – and Cooper, who’s long had a crush on her, steps up. I think the word that best describes Cooper is kind; he manages to override all Calle’s objections (and there are several that are not easy to override). This is the 8th in the series, and they just keep getting better and better.
I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a really sweet romance between Cooper who we have gotten to know in other books. He is african american and super HOT but also a total sweetheart and very beloved by his team. He has a wonderful family behind him as well.
In this story we also meet Calle, who is female hockey coach with a BIG problem or blessing, depending on how you look at it. Cooper has had a HUGE crush on her for years but because she coaches him he has not made a play for her. That is until he comes to her rescue and he decides he wants more.
Calle is very lonely. She doesn’t have close friends or any family, she isn’t sure how great a coach she is and she has been dumped by her ex. That is until Cooper rescues her…
This was a heartwarming and wonderful romance with the guy being all in and the girl really needing convincing as its her career that a romance can destroy. I loved both main characters and I loved seeing characters from the other stories support Cooper and learn to know and love Calle.
It easily stands alone and is told from Cooper and Calle’s POV which is my favorite way for authors to tell their story. There are also no exes getting in the way of this romance. Its a fun and light read.
