HarperI fell in love when I was sixteen. Landon was my entire world and I thought he would be my forever. But I was young and dumb, and with one error in judgement, I destroyed any chance of a future we could’ve had together, along with our hearts.Twelve years later and I’m going through the motions of life, but not actually living. Which is why I let my friends, Bridget and Simon, set me up on a … set me up on a blind date. Turns out, it’s not so blind after all. Because the man sitting in front of me is the same man who’s held onto my heart all these years.
Landon
They call me a Clutch Player because I’m good under pressure and quick on my feet. I was also quick to fall in love. The first time it was with baseball, the second was with Harper. And for a short time I had them both.
Until I lost Harper and all I had left was baseball.
For years, I focused on my career. I had accepted that baseball was my one true love.
Until I saw her again. I never imagined we’d ever get a second chance, but now that she’s sitting right across from me, I know there’s no way in hell I’m going to let her go again.

Another Fantastic Addition to the Cocky Hero Club Novels . It’s a beautiful second chance romance. The plot and characters were so relatable and realistic. The story was captivating, engaging and absolutely heartwarming though at times heartbreaking. When you are young you tend to make impulsive decisions and choices and that’s what happens in Landon & Harpers life’s , Just one mistake changes the course of life for childhood sweethearts Landon and Harper. Fast forward 12 years these two meet again and fate gives them their second chance . I loved how beautifully the author developed the plot and characters & incorporated Simon & Bridget in the plot so seamlessly. I haven’t read any books by Niki Ash and after reading this book I will have to check out more books by her . The writing was flawless and I was totally engaged in this story and rooting for Landon & Harper. A must read.
This was really entertaining and I liked the angle that the author took for this story!
Clutch Player by Nikki Ash is part of The “Cocky Hero Club” series. This is Landon and Harper’s story. Just to note, this is a standalone story.
Landon and Harper were teenage sweethearts and very much in love. But when Landon was drafted into pro baseball , the team and distance caused their breakup and Harper pregnant, married to someone else.
Fast forward 12 years later, Harper is divorced with 2 adorable kids while Landon is retired from the MLB and has moved to town. Fate throws these two back together and the sparks just fly. Yes they have history and yes, Harper has two children but OMG, Landon just was amazing! He was ready to fight for Harper and not let the past , or people get in the way. Nikki Ash is a relatively new author to me and she is now a one click buy. The emotions, feels, and heart in this second chance romance will have you rooting for Landon and Harper.
My Rating: 4.9 stars ********
Oh my heart! It’s been a minute since a book made me fall in love and then broke my heart just as fast but man this story did just that. I loved falling in love with Landon and Harper, they just worked and it made my heart happy. However, this story had a habit of building me up, making me fall and then did it all over again. I laughed, I cried, I cheered, I yelled. Yup, you get all the emotions all wrapped up in an amazing second chance love story.
Oh My Heart!! This book y’all! I mean if you’ve ever read a Nikki Ash book, you know she has this incredible ability to put your feelings through the ringer, and this book was certainly no exception. But this was absolutely perfect in its delivery and was everything I was hoping for it to be and then way more. I fell so in love with Landon and Harper’s story.
Landon and Harper’s characters as teenagers were
amazing. I loved that the author wrote part of their story as teens, it helped us to connect with them and to really see the strong bond they had, before it all went to hades in a handbasket. I loved the innocence and wonderment of them discovering everything together. They were just fun! Neither had the best things going on at home but found comfort in each other. They were best friends as well as lovers. They made me laugh so many times and they also made me cry. When their lives were torn apart by one mistake, I was gutted, ruined, I was devastated.
The Landon and Harper we get as adults are somewhat different. Landon is a little jaded when it comes to relationships and Harper is just trying to take care of her family and avoid drama with her ex. When a chance meeting of a blind date brings her face to face with Landon she’s thrown off. She still feels so much for the man who’s heart she crushed, along with her own as teenagers. There was still so much of the younger versions of themselves even though they were now right around thirty years old. I’m a total sucker for a second chance romance. So I was really happy with the turn of events we were getting in this second half. Landon was still so loveable and caring and loyal. Harper was still adorably clumsy and a fantastic caregiver. You couldn’t hardly read a scene between these two that didn’t have butterflies swarming in your tummy. They had super hot chemistry and witty banter. They brought out emotions in your emotions.
This book was gut check to the feels y’all. It had conflict and frustration and I loved every single second. This book also had some fantastic secondary characters, drama, heat, love, lies, forgiveness. Oh… and a sexy swoony hero, and a make you LOL clumsy heroine. You like books with characters you absolutely loathe? Well this book has a couple of those too! Yup, pretty much everything!
*I voluntarily reviewed an advanced complimentary copy of this book! All opinions are my own!
My cr8zysockbookblock blog wrap up for this book!
– If you are looking for a second chance romance with love, forgiveness, frustrating moments, fantastic characters and all the feels. Grab this book today! Nikki Ash pitches a perfect game with this one!
-GAH!!Okay so it’s hot and sweet (more sweet) in the beginning because they’re young. But when they are older!!! HOLY HAWT HADES!! SO FREAKIN SEXY!!
Cliffhanger Warning-No cliffhanger! PERFECT HEA
5 CLUTCH PLAYER STARS!! I wish I could give more stars….this book is so worth it. Landon is my new book boyfriend….he is hot on so many levels. I loved Harper she is beautiful, strong and so perfect for Landon. The story had all the feels and had me smiling all the way through. You must read this book, so grab it now.
Harper is a divorced mom of two. Her kids are her whole world so she stayed with their father for their sake but couldn’t do it any longer. Having to marry & have kids with the person who is not the love of her life has her wanting to focus only on her kids & their happiness.
Landon has lived his life playing baseball & living carefree as a bachelor. Having his heart broken so many years ago by the one girl who was supposed to be his forever has tarnished his views on happy ever after. But what will happen when a blind date turns out to be the one who got away?
I absolutely loved this second chance romance!! Circumstances forced Harper & Landon apart & now that they are back in each other’s lives, will they be able to let go of the past? Love Nikki’s books and this one does not disappoint!
4.5 stars
Can you go home again? Harper is going through the motions of living her life, along with her children, since divorcing her husband. She is not taking time for herself which has her friends setting her up on a blind date with none other than her first love from when she was sixteen. Things have changed for Landon as he is recently retired from playing professional baseball and is surprised to see that he is set up on a blind date with the one woman that he fell in love with twelve years ago. Will Landon take this opportunity to have a second chance to make things right and tell Harper the truth as to why he left? This book will have any reader feeling emotional from wanting to cry and/or scream as the drama plays out. The storyline flows well and sucks you in from the beginning and does not let go until the end. I volunteered to read an advance copy of this book.
KU*
This book features Bridget and Simon from Dear Bridget, I Want You, I have not read that book and you don’t need to, to follow this book. However, I am definitely going to be reading it soon.
Omg I loved loved this book! We get the first teenage love than the adult love years later. Landon and Harper had that true young love which, unfortunately, had some major bumps as young love tends to have when you are growing up. I felt for Harper and Landon as they navigated their long distance relationship and even more when they made the necessary painful decisions.
Okay I know it’s faux pas considering what happens, but I do not like Melissa; she was an evil little turdbruger. I didn’t like Richard at all since he was very much a buttmole, but I didn’t hate him because he was just pathetic.
Hunter and Ella were so cute and it’s sweet how they loved their mom and looked out for her. The interactions between Landon and kids was just beautiful; that epilogue actually made me cry because of the emotion you could feel between the 3 of them.
There is nothing bad that I can say about this book because even the parts that hurt my heart, I enjoyed them. I think it’s because things flowed and no one made immature impractical decisions or assumptions.
I didn’t want it to end! This was simply just a great read.
4.5 Stars
A must read! Nikki Ash does it again when it comes to a single parent romance. I could not put this one down. It has so much heart, but it also angst. I loved Landon. I want of him for myself. He’s a former baseball player and he is going to make you swoon in no time. When he interacts with Harper’s kids it melts your heart. Don’t even get me started with the epilogue. The feels with that.I’m not gonna lie I teared up. Fate is giving Harper and Landon a second chance of what path they should have been on until one night changed their course. I read this one in a day. I couldn’t put it down. I would highly recommend this one!!
Yet another great read from an author involved in A Cocky Hero Novel club. Nikki Ash is relatively new to me and after reading Clutch Player I’m left wondering why I haven’t read more of her works.
If you are looking for a great second chance romance look no further than this book.
Landon and Harper’s story touched me on so many levels, I sighed, I smiled, I cried and I laughed out loud as I joined this couple on their second chance at love.
Landon is a hero we all want as our man because no one loves quite like him, he cares and he loves hard and that’s what makes him so swoon worthy and likeable.
Harper is a woman who wants the best for her kids and she will sacrifice her own happiness to make sure they are happy, all she wants in life is her kids to know they are loved and who smile because they are loved.
This is a book I will read over and over because I loved everything about this read, the characters ate loveable, the kids adorable, the banter flows naturally and there are plenty of classic one liners only a child can deliver. This is second chance romance at its best and I urge you all to one click this gem.
All the stars and all the feels!! I cried, I yelled, I swooned, I wanted the throw my phone, but overall I loved!! This was first time reading anything within The Cocky Hero Club but not my first time reading Nikki!! Nikki was (is) one of my favorite authors and once again she did not disappoint. Clutch player was a fantastic home run!
Harper made one bad decision that led her down a completely different path. She had to leave her one true love behind and focus on her new future.
Years later, after settling into yet another new normal, her life was thrown for a loop – the one person she thought she lost walked back into her life. Would the stars finally align for them or would their new lives be too different?
Landon spent years focused on baseball but when he saw her standing in front of him he knew he could not let her go. They would get there chance even if it was the last thing he ever did.
This had to be the sweetest second chance ever!! Gah!! Absolutely amazing! My emotions were truly all over the place. I don’t want to give anything away but man…there were parts that I was soooo mad!!! I was mad at the characters, I was mad at the situation, I was mad at Nikki…but I should have known, she would make it up to us and boy did she deliver!
I was anxiously waiting for this story and my god it didn’t disappoint at all. I read the first few chapters and I was sucked in and stayed there till I had finished. I loved absolutely everything about this story. The characters, chemistry and the storyline were fantastic. Another absolute must read.
The set up for this story was cute with Harper and Landon meeting on a blind date after having parted ways 12 years before. He has focused on his career in baseball and she is a single mom. Now that they have a second chance, he is determined to keep her in his life.
I think this might be my favorite from the first round of books in the series with a good guy, a second chance at love, and some humorous moments.
Simon and Bridget make appearances here, too. It is fun to get cameos from characters I liked in other books.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
I received a complimentary ARC – early release copy of this book in Kindle format from the author for review purposes.
So this is a brand new author for me but the story sounded intriguing so I wanted to check it out. It takes place in the Vi Keeland NYC world and in this story Bridget and Simon have a really good friend named Harper and they live in Providence. Their son Brandon is good friends with Harper’s son Hunter and both boys are enrolled in baseball camp run by their coach Brian.
Brian has a retired former baseball player brother named Landon who is visiting for the summer and helping him out when Simon and Bridget decide he would make a great blind date for their friend Harper and that’s how Harper and Landon end up meeting for the first time in 13 years on a blind date.
The first part of the book starts out in the past and I always hate when stories take us to the past. This time we go back to high school and meet Melissa, Harpers evil best friend and Landon, her boyfriend and Richie the boy who annoys her. This was not my favorite part of the story. In fact I kinda hated it. It is the first 30% and I kinda skimmed it.
But the main story starts around chapter 10 and at 30 percent in and that’s when the story gets amazing. Harper is single with two kids, Hunter and Ella and they are really awesome kids. Landon and Harper meet again on a blind date and things for them move very fast. Hunter has only ever loved her and now that she is single he wants to rekindle their past.
This was a very angysty story and I felt for Harper who had to suffer through a miserable marriage but got two great kids out of the deal. And Landon who had to see her marry someone else but whose heart never forgot her. It was a really awesome story and I absolutely loved it.
If you love 2nd chance stories then you will love this story that is told in dual points of view.
Wow this book is one of those you never expected coming your way, it blew my mind, I think is one of my top favorites in the series and I am loving them all. Harper and Landon’s story is one I definitely recommend reading, it’s a second chance, single parent with much more to offer than the blurb. The depth it took from a rom-com was definitely a great surprise. One choice that will change your life. Nicky Ash has a 5 star for this one!
Its been quite a while since I read a book from Nikki Ash and it was lovely to read her again. She brought a great book to this Cocky Hero world filled with so many emotions.
If like me you are a fan of second chance romances then this is a good one. Harper and Landon were everything to each when they were young until he was drafted to play Ball. Twelve years later and fate steps in giving them a second chance at being together.
What I liked about this one it wasn’t all heart and flowers, it was real! The love, the heartbreak, the betrayal, the happiness and oh so much heat. The story flowed beautifully. Well done Nikki
I find myself thinking once again 5 stars is inadequate when it comes to rating a book. It doesn’t happen often but when it does, it’s serious. I’m not a fluff opinion giver type of girl. I’m the very direct kinda girl who if you ask a question, make sure you want the answer. So when I tell you 5 star is inadequate for a book, read the book. So, hey, read.this.book. LOL
You already know from the blurb these two have history and this is a second chance to get it right. So no surprises there. The thing that blindsided me was the depth of emotion behind the storyline. I was a blubbering fool at every page turn and I loved every minute of it. This story is real and relatable with incredible character growth and development. I have read Nikki before and have always enjoyed her work but this is next level good people. Seriously, read this book.
What you need to know about Clutch Player:
Second chance romance
Complete stand-alone
Single Mom
Sexy baseball player Hero
If you loved British Bedmate by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward, you will get to see more of Simon and Bridget.
Angst, sad tears, happy tears and all the feels. Harper and Landon were young lovers. They were probably too young to handle a long distance romance and all the insecurities. Fate gave them different paths and allowed them to mature. When the second chance came around the were better prepared. Great story with special characters that will make you fall in love twice. You love Landon and Harper the first time and love them even more the second time.
I thought that this was a really wonderful, all the feels, second chance romance. Harper and Landon seriously tug at your heartstrings as their story unfolds. This book delivers a romance that is sweet, cute, funny, steamy and emotional while firmly being wrapped up in a cloak of realism. I found the characters easy to love and relatable. Landon will make you swoon and Harper will have you wanting to hang out. Together they will make your heart melt. A simply awesome read about a true love that endures, the mistakes and choices we make and the life you lead along the way. This is my truthful review that I am posting of my own accord.
