Blood and Mistletoe is a novella set in the Ivy Granger Psychic Detective urban fantasy series by E.J. Stevens. The world of Ivy Granger, including the Ivy Granger Psychic Detective series and Hunters’ Guild series, is filled with action, paranormal mystery, magic, dark humor, quirky characters, bloodsucking vampires, flirtatious demons, sarcastic gargoyles, sexy shifters, temperamental witches, psychotic faeries, and snarky, kick-butt heroines.

CLUB NEXUS presents four tales that take place in the eponymous nightclub in Harborsmouth, at least when you pick up the book, that’s what you are supposed to think. In fact, they are a single tale told from four, distinct points of view. One tale, many points of view is not a new idea – Jack L. Chalker did it in his series “Four Lords of the Diamond,” and Piers Anthony did it with his “Incarnations of Immortality.” If you are a long-time reader of genre fiction like me, you probably read one or both of these series.
I find that telling a single story in this way provides an excellent vehicle for expanding understanding of particular characters, and their interactions with each other. CLUB NEXUS is a perfect interlude between novels.
As you progress from story to story, each one gets a little longer and far more detailed than its predecessor. Not surprising in these tellings, Ivy Granger is not the focus. E. J. Stevens has chosen to let us in on the thoughts and actions of some of the beings in Ivy’s circle of friends and clients.
It is also an exercise in world-building. Although Club Nexus is a known quantity that has been visited before, after reading this collection it becomes a more nuanced place in Harborsmouth’s paranormal world.
As I write this, I am already five chapters into the next book, BURNING BRIGHT. When I find a series that I truly enjoy, it is always a pleasure to move from one to the next without a break.
7/22/2018. Ivy Granger club nexus 2.5 by E.J. Stevens
Oh gosh, I LOVE the Ivy Granger books. These are the funniest, most hysterical books I’ve ever read and this one was no exception, it was hilarious. I’m not sure where the Author comes up with these sayings, but dam I do a lot of laughing, when I read these books.
I enjoy the crew of usual characters and look forward, getting to know the new ones. These characters are far, far from dull or average, they’re full of personality, I feel like I know them, everyone is well rounded, unique and quirky. I love them, they’re all different with their own personalities, larger than life. They come off the page’s and there’s no way you can’t like them.
Puck a new character has entered the seen, he’s a seelie fae. He is apparently running the bar, at the famous night club Nexus. Where you’ll find, many types of creatures. From fae seelie & unseelie, vampires, demons and faeries. It’s going too be fun deciphering his place in the story. Hum, along with a new female high class seeie bartender. Huh, and that was fast yikes.
Jinx has finally let Mr. Forneus, of the demon class, break down those walls. All he had to do was save her life lol. If he’d only known that a long-time ago. Jinx has the worst luck, it’s like the world is out to torture her. And now apparently Forneus needs to start from scratch. Something happened, but I’m not telling what.
Ivy and Torn were a little late to the party, but they certainly played their part. There’s at least one person furious with them. I look forward too seeing if anyone else gets mad??? I very much look forward too finding this out.
I’ll reiterate from above, I love these books they’re pure perfection on paper. Once I started reading these books, it was all over. I was addicted. Is there a program I can go to once I’m done reading this series? Because, I’m quite addicted..
I received this ARC from the Author, the review is my honest opinion.
Club Nexus (Ivy Granger #2.5), my fifth read from author E.J. Stevens and my fourth Ivy Granger read. Well-written with intriguing characters. I got the book back in August of 2018 and never got around to reading it until now. E.J. Stevens is rapidly becoming a go-to author for me! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
This is a great short, urban fantasy story in the Ivy Granger, Psychic Detective series. The story covers one night in the paranormal nightclub, Club Nexus and is told from the POV of Jinks, Forneus, a high born Unseelie fae and a southern vampire. This story reveals the dark underside of the nightclub and the depravity of rouge vampires. It also manages to make you laugh and shows us the that demons might have a softer side.
The narrator did an excellent job of the different accents, as well as doing both male and female voices equally well. I really enjoyed her narration, especially the vampire, Cyrus’s southern twang.
It was great hearing the story from the different perspectives, it illustrated well how one’s own concerns colour how things are seen. My favourite was Forneus’ point of view, and I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him at the end. This enjoyable story interweaves well into the other books in the series, has humour, action and romance to keep you entertained.
Can’t believe that I haven’t read this one yet! Basically it’s short stories from the point of view of several of the characters involved in one somewhat brief but unsavory event. These views help the reader get to know some recurring characters quite well, but the whole really is better than the sum of its parts! I loved it and the skilled audio performance by Traci Odom is beyond fantastic!
