When Ellison Russell is nearly killed at a benefactors’ party, she brushes the incident aside as an unhappy accident. But when her house is fire-bombed, she’s shot at, and the person sitting next to her at a gala is poisoned, she must face facts. Someone wants her dead. But why? And can Ellison find the killer before he strikes again? Add in an estranged sister, a visiting aunt with a shocking … with a shocking secret, and a handsome detective staying in her guesthouse, and Ellison might need more than cream in her coffee.

CLOUDS IN MY COFFEE by Julie Mulhern | A Henery Press Mystery. If you love one, you’ll probably love them all.

Well-written suburban mom mystery, part of Mulhern’s ‘Country Club’ series. An amusing and relaxing read.
Poor Ellison, I am sure she would love to just take some time off and relax. Alas, this isn’t the book to do it. Her mother is usual over bearing self, both her Aunt and her Sister are visiting, each with secrets and baggage of their own, and oh yeah, it would seem someone is trying to kill her.
Once again the author has written a brilliant world for the reader to escape into. The early seventies is a fantastic backdrop for Ellison’s story and her characters are expertly crafted. The compare and contrast between Mother and Aunt Sis with Ellison and Marjorie is a great touch.
As with the previous books Ellison’s sarcasm, lost on most of the more oblivious people in her life, drive the story with its humorous touch. There is plenty of suspense and the occasional red herring. This my favorite book of the series. As with all the books it read great as a stand alone, and even better a part of the wonderful series
This book was fun, so much so that I bought all the rest of the book’s in this series, and then I reached the end – last 2-3 pages – of book 6. I found the ending of book 6 so disappointing that I may not buy the next one.
All the books – including 6 – had fun characters and a good murder mystery with plenty of suspects to rule out. They are well written, without the grammar and spelling errors so prevalent now. I truly enjoyed them and believe, if you like ‘cozy’ type mysteries, you will, too. The ending of 6 may not bother you at all, and I can’t tell you why I found it so disappointing without spoiling the ending for those reading it, which I won’t do. I would say, give these books a try regardless of my opinion of book 6’s end. They are worth the read.
First read by this author. Loved it.
Love this series. Great mystery. Characters are believable and funny.
Very well written book with plenty of fun characters.
Very fun mystery with great characters and a surprising conclusion
good book
Although it’s not new, I enjoyed it immensely. I can’t believe I missed this series, and now I’m going back and reading all of Country Club Murders books. It’s laugh-out-loud entertaining, and yet very thought-provoking in the way the characters are brought to life. After reading only the first book, I could visualize each character very vividly in my mind. I especially love that the heroine is constantly trying to develop herself into a stronger and more-independent woman, in spite of her parents’ intentions to marry her off again. I would certainly recommend the books to any female for the mysteries alone, but the message to women that we don’t have to have someone to “look after” us is priceless.
This series is wickedly funny and captures the time period it’s set in spot on. Loved every moment
I hadn’t read the two previous books in this series so I didn’t have enough background at first, but it was still a really good read.
The third book in a six book series so far. Just as enjoyable as the previous two.
An enjoyable vintage peek into the Kansas City ‘country club’ set, and a well crafted mystery to boot.
I’ve already started reading the next books in the series.
This one was part mystery part slap stick comedy. Almost didn’t finish it, when it got too silly, but it’s a fast read. Some laugh out loud bits saved the day.
Odd characters, some surprises along the way, romance too.
I wouldn’t have thought that the country club scene of 1970s Kansas City would be of interest to me – but this is a well written cozy. I’ve read all twelve volumes of the series, drawn by the fact that the author integrates women’s issues of the time, giving the books an underlying depth.
good reads
Pretty pat story line
Another fun book that is easy yo read and enjoyable
Loved it
Too many brand names. They get in the way of the re-hashed plot.
