Hercule Poirot, the world’s most famous detective, returns in this ingenious, stylish, and altogether delicious mystery from the author of the instant bestseller The Monogram Murders.“What I intend to say to you will come as a shock…”With these words, Lady Athelinda Playford — one of the world’s most beloved children’s authors — springs a surprise on the lawyer entrusted with her will. As … surprise on the lawyer entrusted with her will. As guests arrive for a party at her Irish mansion, Lady Playford has decided to cut off her two children without a penny . . . and leave her vast fortune to someone else: an invalid who has only weeks to live.
Among Lady Playford’s visitors are two strangers: the famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, and Inspector Edward Catchpool of Scotland Yard. Neither knows why he has been invited — until Poirot begins to wonder if Lady Playford expects a murder. But why does she seem so determined to provoke a killer? And why — when the crime is committed despite Poirot’s best efforts to stop it — does the identity of the victim make no sense at all?
Addictive, ferociously clever, and packed with clues, wit, and murder, Closed Casket is a triumph from the author whose work is “as tricky as anything written by Agatha Christie” (Alexander McCall Smith, The New York Times Book Review).

So fun to read
I liked this book because of how Poirot just kept you wanting to find out who did the murder and why.
Sophie Hannah does an amazing job of encapsulating Agatha Christie’s world and the world-famous detective, Hercule Poirot! If you love mysteries, please do yourself a favor and read this book!!
Agatha sets the bar for mysteries.
Agatha Christie is always a great read.
Twists at every turn. Kept us guessing.
Typically twisty Christy mystery.
Not one of her best
I love everything by Agatha Christy!!
Just like a real Agatha Christie. Plot and characters were well developed. Poirot was tame compared to Dame Christie’s Piorot. Still thoroughly enjoyed the book. Will read another in this series.
Laborious to read. Every time I thought I knew who had committed the murder, there was another tidbit of information to send you in another direction. If I hadn’t been really bored and wanting to learn who had killed the man I would have just left it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to others. Since Christie is no longer with us, it is enjoyable to read an attempt to continue her characters and genre.
Allegra Forte
If you are expecting Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot, you will be disappointed. He is not the clever and overly confident character that she portrayed, but merely a person that has to be enlightened by others. Otherwise, the characters are interesting, of somewhat overdrawn. There’s no shortage of suspects, and most of them are not very appealing. Christie’s genius was in taking everyday people and having Hercule or Miss Marple reveal their true selves.
it sucks
I really enjoy Sophie Hannah’s Hercule Poirot. She is as good as Agatha Christie, and every bit as entertaining. This is the third book I have read of hers, and I look forward to reading more from Sophie Hannah.
This is a good old fashioned who done it.
It was a fun read! Sort of like the old board game Clue.
good plot
Not up to by Christie’s own writing. Too long.
A very interesting book. I didn’t know who was the murderer until the end.
