“Welcome to Westen. I’m Lorna Doone. Yep, spelled just like the cookie and I own the Peaches ‘N Cream Café here in Westen. You might think nothing much happens in a small mid-western town, but as my friend Harriett says, things aren’t always what they appear. Take our girl Emma for example…”
Emma Lewis has a lot on her plate. The single mother of two precocious twin boys and an aging mother who … mother who is having trouble getting through each day, the last thing Emma needs is a man in her life, especially a doctor. So when the town’s doctor goes on vacation and his handsome nephew takes over, Emma is shocked to not only find him standing in her bedroom, but accusing her of being a neglectful parent.
Clint Preston came to Westen for the year to fill in as the town doc while his uncle took a long needed vacation. Clint also needed a sense of peace and calm to try to find his passion for medicine burned out by long shifts in an urban hospital’s ER. Angered to find two boys in his clinic with broken wrists and no accompanying parent, he is determined to confront their mother. The feisty redhead he meets quickly dispels his belief that she’s a neglectful mother, but he can see her situation is more critical than she wishes to face and finds himself volunteering to help care for her sons and the remodeling of her home.
As Emma and Clint forge a relationship among the slightly off-beat characters that inhabit Westen a menace from Emma’s past threatens her and her sons. Clint and Emma join forces to prevent the loss of either boy and the love they’ve discovered in each other’s’ arms.

Close To Home is a novel on a single mom’s battle between her own independence and her need to accept help (from a potential partner she never had).
I enjoyed the wit of her boys, her strength and Clint’s persistence.
I would recommend this book to anyone who believes that all their desires can be found close to home.
Easy read. Loved the story. A cry fest for sure.
Enjoyed story and characters.
Quick!!! Grab it now…it’s FREE!!! What a great start to a series you’re gonna love. OK, I’m not gonna lie. Ben and Brian, the adorable twins that started the whole thing, are the cutest ever! They hooked me from the beginning. The town of Westen has all the charm you’d expect in a small town. Emma left that small town but headed straight back …
Emma is one of the strongest characters I have met in a long time. The way she has raise her twin boys from birth with only the help from her parents is something. Then add her father passing, her mother losing her mind and the fill in doctor omg I would go just plum crazy. How she did it all and raised such happy sweet and wonderful boys is …
LOVE THIS WHOLE SERIES!!!
New small town doctor arrives and gets involved with a woman who has 2 active boys. A surprise (not a good one) pops up that was original and unexpected.
Gives hope to single mothers you never know where you could find your mate
Sad – Happy – Angry I would have liked a different ending in the name of Legal Justice towards one individual.
Wonderful story, great characters.
I like how each character was developed and the dynamics of the storyline
A sweet and easy read
Excellent book, I really enjoyed it.
Engaging romance with enough twists to keep the reader interested.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The author is a great storyteller. I like the way she includes flawed, yet strong characters. Life isn’t perfect, but her tales give hope. She includes just enough comic relief to make reading truly enjoyable. As a Mom to a young boy, I could certainly relate to the joys and trials of raising energetic …
