Psychology professor Dani Carrigan has always relied on logic when making important life decisions, but when she discovers she’s pregnant — and that there’s a chance her baby may be born “not perfect” logic lets her down.
It would help if the baby’s father would pop the question, but widowed father Adrian seems more interested in protecting his six-year-old daughter than committing to his new … his new relationship with Dani. The last time she felt this alone and scared was when she was 16 and her mother died, leaving Dani to raise her younger sisters with precious little help from her distant and disapproving rancher father. She felt so inadequate then, but is she any more prepared to be a mother now?
Support comes from an unlikely source. Dani always saw her next-door neighbor and friend, divorce attorney Eliot Gilmore, as a charming, handsome, playboy-type. But with each challenge she faces, from pregnancy, to delivery and beyond — Eliot reveals himself a better man than she ever guessed.
Is it possible that Elliot hasn’t been playing the field — but waiting for her?

A beautiful story… leaves you feeling good at the end…
Great read
Dani had been seeing him for a few months but only on certain days and never over night because of his 6 year old daughter. Dani thought pregnancy would bring bring them to the next step in their relationship. Only to find he wasn’t interested in any change. Although she knew about the possibility of her baby being Downs, she told no-one. Very good story
She loves him but he doesn’t love her’; She#2 loves him#2 who doesn’t love her; He loves her… and …. Add to that more than a triangle and you have her pregnant with a Downs baby. Yes, it is true, even educated academics can be romantically stupid. They can also struggle with accepting reality … and help.
This is not a light romance. It is a study in self delusions.
While main female character is from Marietta, and she does end up there to visit at the end; I would not consider this a Marietta story.
It did not need to be as long as it was,,,, dragged a bit.
clean
I really enjoyed this book, as I have all of this author’s books. It was not an easy subject to tackle – an unplanned pregnancy, single parenthood, and raising a mentally disabled child, especially in this day and age of easy abortion, when our culture screams out: get rid of it, why subject yourself to a lifetime of emotional torture? A brave decision to write such a story and to do it with such compassion and empathy for all those Parents who made just such a decision, without making it look like it was a no-brainer. The story was beautifully told with a satisfying ending.
true to life story.wonderful characters and very heart warming.
Great
Dani has been seeing Adrian for awhile but they had to keep it quite because he was her supervising professor at the university and he was a widow with a child. She finds out she’s pregnant, but she tells her best friend Eliot and Miriam first, but when he finds out he is happy. Plus she hasn’t told anyone the baby might have Downs Syndrome. But when Adrian won’t step up after the baby is born Eliot stands in as a good friend and maybe more.
Didnt like that she kept thinking/hoping she was going to be with the baby’s dad. He was a jerk.
loved it
An emotional story that happens more than one wishes to be reminded of wherein a woman becomes pregnant and her partner refuses to take on the responsibilities by marrying her even though they have been in a relationship for some time. To make this situation more difficult is that she becomes aware that the baby will be born with a disability and one has to commend her for refusing to abort the precious baby.
I’m sure a majority of people can relate to this story by knowing someone who has been in a similar situation.
A very inspirational story. I wish it had been longer and would have told what happened in the future of the family that was forming.
a different romance than what I normally read. So like real life.
I love that Marietta, Montana and surrounding areas are written by several authors that keep the series going. Only wish there was a guide book on all the books written about Marietta so I could get them all and read them as they should be. LLove all that I have read so far.
I loved this book! I am going to miss the characters — may have to go back and read it again!
