5 Amazing Stars
Close Encounter by Stephanie St. Klaire is nothing short of AMAZING! I loved that it’s a spinoff of her Brother’s Keeper series and can’t wait for more.
Cane O’Reilly is a cousin to the Brother’s Keepers and is charged with the protecting Charlie from serial killer who is determined to get his one victim who got away. They have been living in plain sight for the past three years in Las Vegas, and when a full blackout occurs along the Vegas strip, all bets are off. Throw in the cons Eddie and Skye who get caught get in the middle when they help Charlie out, the clandestine ways of Cane and you’ve got one helluva story that packs a funny, romantic, and suspenseful punch. This is classic SSK romantic suspense and her ability to keep me on the edge of my seat with her gifted storytelling ways is nothing shy of amazing. I absolutely LOVED it!

Stephanie St Klaire’s Close Encounters was amazing! A quick read, but it sure does pack a punch. Full of excitement, danger, and plenty of heat, I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to see what happens next for Cane and Charlie.
A fast paced read that grabs you from chapter one. Add in suspense, drama and romance and you have a winning story. Loved it!!
Charlie is ‘the one who got away,’ in that a serial killer, Anson Deveraux, is after her, because she is the only victim that has ever escaped him. His narcissistic and sociopathic tendencies signify that he has to finish the job. Cane O’Reilly is tasked with keeping Charlie out of Deveraux’s clutches. He’s been succeeding for a while now, but everything comes to a head in this book.
This book is tightly-paced and suspenseful. This reader forfeited some sleep last night, because it was nearly impossible to put this book down. There is plenty of action as well as some reluctant heroes that are created in this book. The characters are fun and the reader gets invested in the outcome rather quickly. This is a fun and entertaining read!

I loved the interaction between the Hero/heroine. They play well off each other right from the time they met. Charlie is trying to stay alive until they can catch the serial killer that she escaped from. Cane is security at a hotel/casino in Las Vegas, he makes a job for Charlie so he can be near her at all times. This is a continuation story as the next book covers the trial of the serial killer and Charlie/Emily as the witness.
This thrilling romance was so good and exactly what Stephanie excels at! It did take me the two prologues and into the first chapter before it really started coming together for me, but once it did, there was no stopping me!
Cane O’Reilly was charged to protect Charlie Adams after Witness Protection has repeatedly failed. The most dangerous serial killer was still on the loose and determined to finish what he had started, kill Charlie. Anson Deveroux had escaped after being captured and no one knew where he was. Cane is hiding Charlie in Las Vegas in a Casino with the most tech security available. He is totally committed to keeping her safe and she has gotten under his defenses. They are more than just Friends-with-Benefits, even if neither will admit it.
So, when a bajillionaire comes to the hotel with virtually no past, Cane becomes concerned. Then Las Vegas goes dark! A Blackout in Sin City! The cat and mouse game will have you hanging on the edge of your seat! And I love Eddie and Skye, or should I say the Windsors? This book will take you down all kinds of twisty turns and did I tell you that it’s Part 1? So now we are anxiously awaiting the next book!
Close Encounter, Part 1 was a suspense filled amazing read by Stephanie St. Klaire. Cane O’Reily is a hot sexy part of Brothers Keeper Security and is tasked with keeping Charlie safe from a serial Killer. Loved this his story and can’t wait to read part 2
So Good!
She is the last surviving victim of a ruthless international serial killer, Anson Devereaux, and has spent the past two years in witness protection while still being hunted. Devereaux has managed to find her three times while she has been in protective custody.
I love this O’Reilly clan and all of the secondary characters that make up the Brother’s Keeper Security. Cane works for his cousins, the brothers in the “Brother’s Keeper Security” team. While their headquarters is in Portland, Cain works in Las Vegas as Head of Private Security for a hotel & casino.
He is the best at what he does. He has to keep Charlotte as close to him as possible in order to keep her away from Devereaux. This means the only way to keep her under the radar is to make her an employee of the hotel & casino where he is the boss.
Eddie and Skye are in Vegas looking to make some easy money robbing rich hotel patrons while posing as out of control lovers, hiding in plain sight. When they attempt to rob the penthouse suite, they discover Charlotte unconscious and tied up. Rescuing her is the right thing to do and finding Cain is essential.
While Eddie is quite rough around the edges, he manages to keep it together to help Cain keep Charlotte and Skye safe when there is a blackout all over the city and they are dealing with no power, lights, or communications whatsoever and a murdering madman on the loose.
This story starts out in high gear and it just keeps getting better. There is a lot of suspense, dangerous manipulations and unknown danger. There is also the connection between Cain and Charlotte that keeps building throughout their months long ordeal. You can’t read this fast enough! An unbelievable ending, or is it?! I can’t wait for Part 2!
Absolutely loved this one, Charlie and Cane were there was just something about them, that just made them seem different from the norm! Once you started you won’t be able to put it down….It had twists in it I wasn’t expecting…that ending wow….
The suspense in this story will keep you on the edge of your seat and the chemistry between Cane and Charlie is off the charts. As you learn more of Charlie’s background and see the interactions between the two, you can’t help but fall in love with them. I also enjoyed the secondary characters of Eddie and Skye – they provided a lightness to parts of the story, and a few surprises as the action really got started. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Oh. My. Gosh! This is a high octane, pedal to the metal action packed story about Cane and Emily/Charli. She is the only survivor of a serial killer and is being protected by the Brother’s Keeper until that killer is captured and incarcerated. This story will continue in Part 2.
Stephanie St. Klaire has written an intense suspense novel that will have you biting your nails almost the entire book. I especially loved the secondary characters that get caught up in the escape. I absolutely cannot wait to read Close Encounters Part 2!
Trying to hide from a nasty villain Cane is doing well keeping his charge safe but threats are closing in. Intense and suspenseful read but it has some lighter moments with Eddie and Skye. This is part one of a two parter so it does continue but it’s well worth adding to the rest of the Brothers Keeper series. I loved it and can’t wait to get my hands on part two. Great characters and as always with Stephanie it’s edge of your seat at times. Started 1/2/21 finished 2/2/21
This is a heart pounding, action packed and thrill inducing read… both quick and highly entertaining. Loved every one of the exciting twists in this emotional roller-coaster that just left me breathless… loved it!
This is a fantastic romantic suspense story and a spin off of the Brother’s Keeper series. Cane is a member of the Brother’s Keeper security team and is protecting Charlie from a serial killer out to get her. I loved Cane and Charlie and the addition of Eddie and Skye make this a laugh out loud, steamy, action packed story filled with suspense and leaving me wanting to read more about these couples.
I absolutely loved Close Encounter. Brother’s Keeper is one of my favorite security firms to read about. I love the world Stephanie has created and never wanted to leave it. Cane and Charlie are a unique pair, as she is on the run and he is doing his best keep her hidden. They have a unique situation and their decisions are a matter of life and death. I loved the twists and turns of the plot and the memorable side characters. I believe they deserve a book of their own too.
I NEED the next book in this series right now. I want more of Cane and Charlie.
Close Encounter is great start to Stephanie St. Klaire’s new series. I loved reading this part of Cane and Charlie/Emily’s story as they try to escape from Anson Devereaux, and look forward to reading more. I must add I loved the secondary characters of Eddie and Skye, and hope to read more about them in their own story.
Cane and Charlie’s story was a fantastic beginning to the Blackout Series by Stephanie St Klaire!
They are both in Vegas working together undercover, hiding from a mad man that is after Charlie and willing to stop at nothing to get what he wants.
The story is definitely full of unexpected twists and turns throughout that made the story even more enjoyable than expected. The story ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but I really cannot wait to see what is in store next for these characters
This book went so fast! I had to find out what happened!! This is a story of undeclared love and protection. This had me laughing, shaking my head and knowing that they had to survive! I really enjoyed all of the characters. I hope that I see some of the main characters in another book!
Once again, Stephanie keeps me riveted and engaged with the story line!
I usually enjoy a good bodyguard story, especially by this author. You have the solid trustworthy defender in Cane, and the smarter and more able than the average heroine in Charlie. Maybe because it has a cliffhanger for an ending (note the Part 1 in the title) or because I had trouble believing the “come to Jesus” moment that the unexpected. sidekicks had, but I had trouble making my way through this story. I will have to check out the second part of this story when it is available and reserve final judgement until then.

3.5* for me
I did enjoy reading this book, the author writes in a style that I like and frames the story in a way that makes you want to read on and on. I’m definitely looking forward to the next part of this and will most likely go back and read the previous series (though I didn’t feel I missed out on anything by not reading those books first particularly.
Two big things for me though, I struggled to get past the fact that his role is described as her shadow, her protector and yet he lets her head up to Davenports room, even though he is suspicious, without him….when so much is made of the brothers keepers abilities to make people safe it seemed a really glaringly obvious mistake to make.
I also felt that a lot of the book was given over to Skye and Eddie. Whilst I enjoyed their humerous introduction and it made me laugh out loud, they were very involved in this book to the point I felt we knew more about their relationship than the one between Cane and Charlie which was barely touched on. I think every scene with Skye and Eddie had them being intimate in some way, yet there was barely any reference to Cane and Charlie being together or their feelings.
I am still excited for part 2 and look forward to seeing how the author concludes this story
