Remy Guidry doesn’t do relationships. He tried the marriage thing once, back in Louisiana, and learned the hard way that all he really needs in life is a cold beer, some good friends, and the occasional hookup. His job as a bodyguard with McKay-Taggart gives him purpose and lovely perks, like access to Sanctum. The last thing he needs in his life is a woman with stars in her eyes and babies in … her future.
Lisa Daley’s life is going in the right direction. She has graduated from college after years of putting herself through school. She’s got a new job at an accounting firm and she’s finished her Sanctum training. Finally on her own and having fun, her life seems pretty perfect. Except she’s lonely and the one man she wants won’t give her a second look.
There is one other little glitch. Apparently, her new firm is really a front for the mob and now they want her dead. Assassins can really ruin a fun girls’ night out. Suddenly strapped to the very same six-foot-five-inch hunk of a bodyguard who makes her heart pound, Lisa can’t decide if this situation is a blessing or a curse.
As the mob closes in, Remy takes his tempting new charge back to the safest place he knows—his home in the bayou. Surrounded by his past, he can’t help wondering if Lisa is his future. To answer that question, he just has to keep her alive.

Absolutely everything this lady writes is amazing
What can I say I’m a fan through and through. Love this story too. Sexy hero and smart ass heroine are so fun to read. Keep them coming.
Finally getting Remi’s story. A bit on the emotional side especially for Lisa. Putting it all out there and getting turned down does a number on a girls self esteem. Gotta love hanging out with the McKay-Taggart team anyway we can.
I have been a fan of the Masters and Mercenaries series for awhile now, so I was excited to see that Remy was going to get his turn at finding his HEA!
The sexy Cajun Dom has been on Lisa’s radar for months, but when she approached him at Sanctum he didn’t exactly handle turning her down with finesse and that hurt still lingers with her. Remy is a really good guy and there is no doubt he is attracted to Lisa, but he has some hangups that hold him back from allowing himself to enjoy her. First and foremost, family is everything to him and he is laser-focused on saving up enough money to buy his family business back from his cousin. That business supports his whole town in Louisiana, and if he cannot come up with the required funds, his cousin is going to sell off the land to a developer and destroy their bayou. Remy knows that he will be leaving McKay- Taggart to return to home to run the business so creating roots in Dallas is not in his best interest. Also, Lisa scares him to death. He thinks she is a rich girl looking to take a walk on the wild side with a guy from the wrong side of the tracks, and he has already gone down that path once. He was burned pretty badly by his ex-wife who fit that bill, and he is all set with going for round two.
When Lisa’s family approaches him about protecting her from the danger she now finds herself in, his first instinct is to say no and run in the opposite direction as fast as he can. But he is the only operative available at the moment, and the money they are offering him will allow him to make the final payment on the family business. As much as he knows this assignment will be a bad idea, he cannot realistically say no and destroy not only his town’s hopes but also Lisa’s best chance at surviving this mess because he is her best option to keep her safe. Keeping little Remy in his pants is a whole different story… and when her family asks him to keep the fact that he is on assignment to protect her from Lisa herself, you know things are going to get ugly!
Lisa may look the part of the spoiled little rich girl, but looks can be deceiving. Her sister-in-law is not shy about sharing her designer wardrobe, and Lisa is not averse to looking nice or wearing nice things. Her roots are laid firmly in the trailer park though where her older brother Will had to become both mother and father to Lisa and their sisters when he was just 16 in order to keep them off the radar of social services. She has worked hard to get her MBA and she cannot believe her first real job turned into a debacle of discovering her boss is a money launderer. No one wants to hire a whistleblower though, so she finds herself out of a job and in dire financial straits. She is a prideful woman and doesn’t want to let anyone know how bad her situation is becoming, especially her family. When Remy moves in across the hall from her, she just adds it to the list of little insults life is throwing her way. Then he saves her from a bad situation, and his natural charm and that dang sexy accent are just going to be her undoing…
Remy and Lisa have palpable chemistry, and their kinks fit together remarkably well when they can actually communicate with each other and get on the same page. Her stubbornness and pride are big issues, but so is his aversion to women who he thinks resemble his ex-wife. Add in the fact that he is keeping a big secret from her and things are sure to go off the rails! When he has to go back home and takes Lisa with him to keep her safe, that homecoming is both sweet and funny at times, but he has his work cut out for him when it comes to winning her trust. I loved the poetry that his mind generates when he is in the moment- it definitely had me swooning right along with her! Close Cover is equal parts romance, action, suspense and heat, and it is a great addition to the series!
5 Star Review of Close Cover (Masters and Mercenaries #16) by Lexi Blake
Close Cover is book 16 in Lexi Blake’s Masters & Mercenaries series which is one of my all-time favourite series.
Nobody does romantic suspense books like Lexi Blake. If you like sexy alpha males, some BDSM, smoking hot scenes and characters that will melt your heart and your panties, then look no further.
This is McKay-Taggart operative Remy Guidry and Lisa Daley’s story. Remy doesn’t do relationships, his past marriage has damaged him too much. However there is something about Lisa and the feelings that she brings out in him, he just can’t seen to help himself.
Lisa is a strong and independent woman who is determined to see justice is carried out and because of that her life is now in danger from the mob. Remy is a bodyguard for McKay Taggart and he goes undercover to protect Lisa Daley, all the while telling himself that he can keep it purely professional; he doesn’t count on Lisa and her attraction to him or the feelings that she brings to the surface in him.
Close Cover is filled with suspense, danger, intrigue and the growth of a deep and committed love; one that made my heart pound at times. Lexi Blake always ensure that her characters are never one dimensional or superficial. I was engrossed from the first chapter to the last. As always it was great to see some familiar faces pop into the book.
Lisa works for an accounting firm and visits Sanctum when she can. When she finds out they are laundering money for the mob, she calls in a tip to the police. Her family hires McKay-Taggart to protect her. Remy is Louisiana born and works as a bodyguard for Taggert. When he first met Lisa, he thought she was a spoiled rich woman but she is everything he has ever wanted. Lisa asked Remy to scene with her and her turned her down. Now he has to keep her safe from her former employer while he keeps his heart out of it.
Suspense. Sex. And secrets. I’ve had this for awhile and didn’t realize I hadn’t read it yet. I think Lisa shouldn’t have gotten so upset with Remy when she finds out she was a job.
Love, love, LOVE Lexi Blake!!
I have loved all of the books and this series! Please keep them coming!!!
Good addition to the series, if a bit different. Good understanding of the bayou culture with needed drama and comedy.
The bayou plus Remy’s romantic nature make this book
This was book 16 in the “Masters and Mercenaries” series and I really hope it is not the last book in this series. Lisa Daley’s life is moving in the right direction she got her MBA in accounting she got a job until she called the FBI on her boss for money laundering so now she is out of a job and she is struggling. When her brother Will and her sisters turn to Ian for help he puts Remy on the case. Remy Guidry is a hot sexy Cajun Dom who doesn’t do relationships. This book had some funny moments in it and the strip club scene was funny. Remy has always thought he was too good for Lisa he thought that she was a poor little rich girl and he was so wrong. Will took care of himself and his sister’s in a trailer park because their mother was a drug addict who was in and out of prison. Lisa’s father was a priest who was mentally abusive to her. When an Italian hit comes after her he takes her to his hometown to meet his family. Remy has to return home to save his families business he didn’t think that he would be welcomed but her was his family blamed him for all the things that went wrong with them when he came home from the service because he married the wrong woman who Lisa beat up the night they returned. This was a good read that I liked very much. Lisa had to learn to forgive him when she found out that her brother paid him to be her bodyguard. These two had some hot sex Remy is a rope master. The epilogue for this book has me really wanting to read about the crossover about the other bodyguards and the next one I wasn’t so sure about how I felt about a paranormal but now I can’t wait to read it. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to also reading about The Lost Boys. I really hope this isn’t the last book in this series I would really miss Ian and all his sarcasm
A crossover collection that I have every intention of reading
This story was great, the right amount of love, emotions and some action.
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
Good dialogues
Well written characters that is developed in to realistic personalities
I’m looking forward to experience how the other authors have done with the rest of the crew.
5 stars
What can I say? I loved Remy, and having seem his, um, popular ways in other books, you knew he was fighting too hard. Lisa was so sweet, and so saucy, that it was easy to see she was the baby of the family. She fought so hard against everyone solving all her problems, and her family so wanted to look after her, they missed the woman she was. Lots of misunderstandings here, but no real drama. You always knew it was going to work out, right from the get-go, so seeing how these two caused their own trouble wasn’t a surprise
Now, about that bad guy, who really wasn’t, where can I get more of him? #moreItalianhitmanplease
Close Cover is Lexi Blake’s story in her crossover collection, and I highly recommend reading all of the other stories in the collection first, and saving this one for last. Trust me, it’s a smart move.
I really liked Remy, and Lisa was alright. She got a little whiny for a while, but thankfully came out of it. Not only was the story good, but I really liked the epilogue. It was the perfect ending for this crossover. I can’t wait to see what happens next with Ian and the rest of the MT crew.
Remy and Lisa’s relationship started out rocky, but making up?! Talk about heat! Seriously though, I enjoyed the story. The suspense portion was a little thin, but the romance and family dynamics for both families was very entertaining! And Ian Taggart …well, it really wouldn’t be an M&M book without his sarcastically charming words of wisdom!
This is a novel from the Masters and Mercenaries series (which is a huge one to get into!) and is a crossover novel where authors combine the worlds they have created with those of another author which sounds like a fascinating opportunity for letting the imagination run wild.
Remy Guidry works for McKay-Taggart doing whatever they pay him for and he’s made a solid group of friends there with Declan, Riley, Shane and Wade and I enjoyed their banter.
Everyone in the book seems to play at a BDSM club, Sanctum, started by the founding members of McKay-Taggart, although there is only one visit to the club in this book. The Daley family, also members of the club, book Remy to be bodyguard to the youngest of the Daley sisters, Lisa, but she is not to realise that’s what he is doing.
This is due to be Remy’s final job for McKay-Taggart before he’s due to return to Papillon to buy back the family bar.
The problem is that Lisa and Remy have fancied each other from afar for a long time but after Lisa approached Remy months before and was rejected by him, for perfectly valid, and honourable, reasons, things get off to a sticky start. What follows is a series of misunderstandings and problems caused by the usual lack of communication that happens in relationships.
The sex is definitely not behind closed doors and although some may consider it a little close to erotica when it does happen it doesn’t dominate the book.
Although this was fine to read as a standalone I did feel a little like I’d walked into a party where everyone already knew each other. Settings and characters were already well established and would probably be familiar to regular readers of Blake’s.
This was an enjoyable, easy read with plenty of other books to sink your teeth into if one book is not enough for you.
Remy is leaving Taggert and heading home to Louisiana to save his family business, but before he goes he’s taking one last job, protecting Lisa from potential harm.
Always entertaining and suspenseful with just the right amount of romance and delicious heat, strong heroes and resilient heroine’s Masters and Mercenaries is one series you definitely can’t miss!
Just really love this series and her writing.
Well how do you sum this book up, quite easily, HOT DAMN!!!!! Remy is one gorgeous bodyguard with words that will turn you to mush and have your heart tied up in knots. Remy has fought his attraction to Lisa from day one because of who he thought she was and because of the duty he feels to his family. When one last job comes up for Remy with McKay-Taggart that he has to take that involves Lisa he might just discover there is more to his mermaid than he realizes. As drama, chaos and feelings erupt it might take every bit of strength for Remy to convince Lisa that they were meant to be. This first book in the Crossover collection will have you totally hooked and needing more.
Lisa Daley thought she had her life together. She graduated from school, got a job with an accounting firm and is a member of Sanctum. She’s on her own and ready to start living life on her terms, including exploring her fantasies at Sanctum. There’s just one little problem . . .the accounting firm she is working for is really a front for the mob and now, they want her dead so she can’t testify. While she thinks she can take care of herself, her siblings don’t agree and secretly hire her a bodyguard. Suddenly, Lisa finds herself stuck with the man who rejected her offer to play at Sanctum.
Remy Guidry is happy living the single life. He tried marriage once and it didn’t work out, so now he sticks to hook-ups only. When the beautifully sexy Lisa asks him to play at Sanctum, he tells he he isn’t interested. She reminds him way too much of his first wife. He thinks she is a spoiled princess. When his boss assigns Remy to guard Lisa, he can’t say no. And, the more he learns about her, the more he realizes just how wrong he was. He may want to make her his princess, but she certainly isn’t spoiled.
As their passions collide, Lisa and Remy become more than friends, but Remy’s secret pulls them apart even as he has to guard Lisa from the mob. As the stakes continue to rise, Remy knows he has to get Lisa somewhere safe and takes her back to his safe place, his home town in the Louisiana Bayou.
Will Remy be able to convince Lisa his feelings are true and keep her alive as the mob closes in or will she reject him and leave him behind once the threat against her has been eliminated. Remy will need to rely on all of his Cajun charm and that of Papillon’s quirks and allure to convince her to stay.
I couldn’t wait to read Remy’s story. Lexi Blake had given readers teases of the mysterious and sexy Cajun and Close Cover did not disappoint. I enjoyed learning Remy’s back story of why he left his hometown and eventually landed with the McKay-Taggart crew. I loved watching him become more himself once back home in the bayou. And, watching him use all of his charm to win over the lovely Lisa was absolutely breathtaking!
Lisa Daley is no spoiled princess. The Daley siblings may be successful now, but had a very tough life. She’s intelligent and independent and as loyal as can be. All she wanted was to make it on her own, but her realization she was working for the mob truly takes her feet out from under her. Papillon is also a magical place for Lisa. Even though she is there to hide from her would be assassins, she starts finding her true self and what she really wants out of life. It was fabulous watching her blossom and come in to her own.
Close Cover has plenty of suspense with mob assassins on Lisa and Remy’s trail and all the quirks a small Cajun town in the bayou can offer. Lisa and Remy’s chemistry is white hot and will leave readers breathless. 5 stars!
