After being in a rut with a heavy disappointing read I knew this book would pull me out of a slump. This author never fails to entertain me.
Former MMA fighters are recruited to a bodyguard company. Miles has an intimate past with his client so will he get a second chance?
There’s a lot going on at her ranch, is it in her head or is she in danger? I thought I had it worked out then the author threw in a bunch of red herrings to keep me guessing.
There was suspense and drama in this book, but plenty of romance and funny moments. It kept me glued to my kindle and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Miles Dartman aka: The Legend, is a former MMA fighter now a Body Guard. Miles has a casual arrangement with personal shopper Maxi Nevar, but with each mind-blowing encounter he’s left wanting more and then she disappears for months and he can’t forget her. Maxi seeks Miles out after being drugged and wants to hire his services through the Body Armor security agency. After hearing that she’s in danger he’s ready to protect her 24/7 and fight like hell to break through her defenses!
Maxi received quite a large inheritance, her grandmothers farm along with lots of cats that her grandmother adored. But with the inheritance comes chaos and danger from an unknown source. Her ex Gary won’t leave her alone, her siblings want her to sell, and someone is making mysterious threats to get her to leave. Then there’s Miles, breaking down her defenses and giving her unlimited amounts of pleasure. Except he wants her trust too. Maxi has to decide if giving her heart as well as her trust to this man is worth the risk ? Will he walk away or will she gain everything she needs?
LOVE! One of my new favorite series!
Maxi’s mother and grandmother both died recently under mysterious circumstances. Maxi inherited her grandmother’s farm and intends to fix it up and spend the rest of her life there, though she is getting pressure from her older brother and sister to sell it. Strange things start happening to her and after she wakes outside in the middle of the night, she turns to Body Armour for a body guard, and the body guard she wants is ex MMA Miles Dartman, whom she had 3 mind blowing nights with, but then disappeared to the farm. At first Miles is angry with her, for running from him, but what he wants is her trust so he can keep her safe. Someone is gas-lighting her. Is it her sibs, who had inherited their mother’s business, but find that it is financial ruin, her ex, a neighbor or someone else? Expertly developed characters with a can put it down unique plot.
I LOVED this book. I read it in less than 24 hours. Love story that makes you blush and want to yell at both main characters. LOL I loved it!

It’s like an assortment of delicious man candy, isn’t it? One at a time is shocking, but all together, they steal a girl’s breath away.
My Review:
Goodreads has 252 distinct listings for Lori Foster while I have just finished my first one, of many, where have I been? Close Contact was an entertaining and steamy tale of romantic suspense, although it was initially a bit maddening as the main character was slow to share information and was rather sparse on the details concerning her intriguing situation. I wanted to give her a pinch or two and tell her to spill it, but the story was worth the wait and in addition to suspense and dangerous devilment from an unknown menace, a sexy second chance romance was steaming up the windows and singeing the sheets. I had developed and cast aside several theories yet had not suspected the actual culprit, I love when that happens. The writing was interesting, intriguing, and easy to follow; I will be greedily haunting Ms. Foster’s listings from now on.
“Close Contact”, book three of Lori Foster’s Body Armor series, opens with a hold-your-breath moment as we are immediately dropped into a scene with Maxi Nevar as she tries to figure out where she is and how she got there. Once she realizes, she goes to the only person who can help her decipher what happened to her and to help solve the other strange things occurring on the property she inherited from her grandmother.
Miles Dartman, former MMA fighter and now bodyguard, is shocked to find Maxi in the Body Armor offices. After a couple sexual escapades, Maxi disappeared and now that Miles has her in his sights again, he doesn’t plan on letting go.
Maxi is happy is to have Miles around – more than as a bodyguard – even while wondering if he’ll stay after the mystery is solved.
We learn a lot about Maxi in “Close Contact”. She’s made a mistake in her past that alienated her family and she’s trying to do right by her grandmother’s memory. She’s independent and prefers to handle things on her own.
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about Miles and I found this disappointing. We do find out why he retired from fighting – about three quarters of the way through the book – but I really wished Ms. Foster would have given us more background history and depth like she has with previous heroes (Rowdy and Armie come to mind).
“Close Contact” has a suspenseful beginning, a somewhat slow middle, and an ending where the energy ramps up when we discover who is causing Maxi trouble. I admit I was trying to figure out who the culprit was and was taken off guard when the person was revealed.
Next up is “Fast Burn”, where we’ll find out if Sahara is successful in luring Brand away from MMA and into the bodyguard business at Body Armor.
3rd book in her Body Armor series and so good! Lori Foster has been a favorite author since forever, and she never disappoints!
Lori Foster gives you a bit of mystery mixed in with a second chance love story. Her heroes and the women they fall in love with draw you in. You will cringe, laugh, cry, and feel every emotion while reading Close Contact. Lori is one of my one-click author’s whose books I always purchase.
Maxi Nevar wakes up in the middle of the night next to her pond. That is how this book starts. Did she just fall asleep there? Nope. The last thing she remembers is sitting down on the couch with a glass of wine and a book. So many things have been happening since she moved into her deceased grandma’s house and this is the last straw. Now she is scared but she knows where to turn. Miles Dartman is a former MMA fighter who gave up the ring after too many injuries and is now a bodyguard. He gets a call from his boss to report to the office first thing in the morning…early…and is surprised at what greets him. He and Maxi have a past, a 3 night past he didn’t want to end but didn’t know how to find her. Now he has her right where he wants her and she is his to protect.
This story is full of romance, fun, suspense, danger, cats, hot men, sassy women, lots of banter, and definitely many twists and turns. Just when you think you have it figured out it goes in a different direction. It was engaging from the beginning to the end and even though I had not read the first two books in the series I did not feel lost in the slightest. Definitely can read this as a standalone. I highly recommend this one!
“Close Contact” (Body Armor Book 3) by Lori Foster is a fantastic read. I loved Miles and Maxi’s story! This story has passion, romance, mystery, action, close friends, drama, animal rescue, entertaining and interesting characters, and more. A wonderful addition to the Body Armor series. Another great read by Lori Foster. I can’t wait to see what happens next in “Fast Burn”. Highly recommend to all fans of romance, action, and series.
4.5*
I really enjoyed the first 2 books in the Body Armor series- they’re exciting, suspenseful, full of twists and turns, not to mention downright sexy. And Close Contact, the third book, is all that and more. Reminiscent of the books in the Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series, Close Contact might just be my favorite of the three so far. I love the mystery of this one, and that it’s a bit of a second-chance romance. The little history Miles and Maxi shared just added to the intrigue.
The action starts from word one, and the anticipation and uncertainty never let up. Ms. Foster had me guessing through the entire book, trying to figure out just who had it in for Maxi and why they were causing her so much trouble. Just when I thought I had things figured out I’d start questioning myself and everything I thought I knew!
When you open a Lori Foster book there’s never a doubt that you’re in for an entertaining, captivating, and romantic read, and Miles and Maxi’ story did not disappoint. Miles is a quintessential Foster hero- strong, protective, chivalrous. He’s the kind of guy that likes to take charge, but is not afraid to back off when necessary. Maxi’s very strong in her own right, unwilling to just sit back and let Miles handle things, even though that’s what she hired him for. She’s willful without being too headstrong.
While their past fling caused a bit of conflict, and Miles really wanted answers, he didn’t let it interfere with his job, but he also didn’t let Maxi off the hook. Their back and forth, and the inclusion of rest of the Body Armor crew and their women, as well as some of the gang from the Ultimate series, (love them!), added a little levity and fun to what could have been a heavy and more serious story.
And now I’m eagerly awaiting Sahara’s story!
I just love this series and the men. They are so strong, tough and tender all at the same time. The women are strong and independent. Miles is no different. Miles has to quit fighting and so becomes a bodyguard. He had a thing with Maxi, but she walked away from him and he thought they were done. He wanted more, but obviously she didn’t. One day she shows up at his work with a big problem. Someone is trying to drive her out of her home. She hires Miles, but he would protect her anyway. As he is dealing with the threat and trying to figure out who is behind it, he is trying to convince Maxi that they are really good together.
Maxie was a personal shopper and is considered the black sheep of the family. She has lousy taste in men. When she gets sex pictures from her boyfriend that was supposed to go to his other girlfriend, she breaks up and has sworn off men. She inherited her grandmother’s farm but was left out of he mother’s will. She has been slowly fixing up the farm and awakens one morning, outside by the pond, with no recollection of how she got there. She goes to the only man she feels safe with and he works for Body Armor, a bodyguard service. Maxie had a three night stand with Miles several months ago and disappeared. Miles is a former MMA fighter and works for BODY ARMOR and is enjoying his life. Until he gets called in to the boss’s office with a new assignment..Maxie. To find out who is after her and to protect her, even if he has to protect his heart too. Because she is still as gorgeous and alluring as she was when he first met her. Maxi never forgot Miles but thought her life was too crazy for him. She never gave him the chance to make his own decision but now that he’s back, he’ll not let her go. First he has to figure out who is trying to run her off her property and why? Excellent story and a visit from some old friends. Sex. Suspense that’ll keep you turning the pages until the end. I had a suspicion who it was but I can’t getting thrown off the track. You can always count on Lori Foster to write an entertaining story. * VOLUNTARILY READ AND WROTE A REVIEW FOR NETGALLEY *
Miles Dartman found success in the octagon, but unfortunate injuries forced him to walk away before he was ready to say goodbye to his career. Lucky for him thought his friends had his back and brought him in at the Body Armor Agency, and so far it seems to be a good fit for him, it gives him a chance to use some of his skills, and it keeps his mind busy and off of his retirement from fighting. But when his boss calls him in for a special meeting and informs him who his newest client will be he begins to wonder what he has gotten himself into… protecting his ex is sure to bring about more trouble than he is prepared to deal with!
Maxi Nevar has a problem, one that she knows she can’t handle on her own, so she turns to the one place she knows will provide her the safety she craves… the Body Armor Agency, namely her ex Miles Dartman. She knows asking for his help is risky, especially after how she left things between them, but her with limited options, she knows he will show up and keep her safe. She hasn’t seen him since their short little fling abruptly ended, and she knows that he is going to have lots of questions for her, she just hopes she can find the words to answer them…
Hold on tight when you settle down with this one, Ms. Foster’s superbly crafted story line will reach out and grab a hold of you and take you on one heck of a literary ride!! In this third installment of the Body Armor series Ms. Foster amps up the action, gets your curiosity swirling early on, and lures you to the edge of your seat all by the first chapter. This suspenseful and sexy story centers around former MMA fighter Miles Dartman and his damsel in distress, whom also happens to be his ex, Maxi Nevar, and my oh my do the sparks between these two pack a serious punch. They are thrown together when Maxi turns to the Body Armor Agency for protection from the danger that is lurking around her home, and she personally requests Miles to keep her safe, and while Miles has his reservations about getting involved with her again, he also can’t stand the thought of someone hurting her. So, he jumps in head first, and before long the sparks reignite and things get nice and toasty!! I thoroughly enjoyed this one, it was a well rounded read, that kept me completely enthralled from start to finish, and left me feeling all swoony… and it doesn’t get any better than that in my book!! Highly recommend!!

Great plot, hot Alpha ex-MMA fighters turned bodyguards, sexy girlfriends, steamy sex & tension filled moments of danger – – This one has it all! Lori Foster has found the perfect balance between romance & mystery in her Body Armor series. From the moment this book opened, the reader is swept into Maxi’s life & emotions. As the plot unravels, there is a perfect sense of tension growing in two ways – between Maxi & Miles regarding their relationship & the anticipation of the ending. The supporting characters are well developed & add additional depth to the story. I love Sahara! She’s so poised & elegant but sarcastic & witty at the same time. She has a tough she’ll but has a soft & tender side too. Ms. Foster crafts her characters in such a way as to give the readers several suspects. She misdirects your suspicion until you really have a hard time figuring it out. I never would have guessed this ending!
Lori Foster sure knows how to hook you in right from the beginning and not let go until the very end. What a great suspenseful romance. Not too scary suspenseful but still got a good mystery going on to see who the villain was. I had a hunch but I was kept being thrown off. So many possible suspects and it was great trying to guess “who dunnit.” Now on to the romance part. *Great big sigh* Miles and Maxi were HOT! Their chemistry was off the charts and I really loved how their relationship developed. It was fun, sweet and absolutely sexy. And the gang from the Ultimate Series came back for a bit. So fun seeing the fighters all back in one place again. I really loved all the characters in Lori Foster’s stories. They’re all so lovable. Close Contact is another hit in this Body Armor series. I can’t wait to read more.
