One word easily summed up my entire life: ordinary.
I lived with my grandmother in a rural town in Montana. As I worked beside her in our small store, she taught me everything I needed to know.
Except how to find her when she disappeared into thin air.
Yesterday, going off to college was my greatest adventure. But the truth about my childhood was hidden from me my entire life, cloaked by a … entire life, cloaked by a powerful spell.
I thought all the tales she told me were just bedtime stories…children’s fantasies.
Until I stumbled into the Covis Realm.
Until I learned my mother was killed because she was a mage.
Until I was told my father died defending her.
Until I realized I’m the rightful heir to the throne.
Mages were hunted and killed because of their powers. They said a mage could never be the queen.
My response? Watch me.

I have to say that I was a bit confused when I started reading this book. I wasn’t getting the feeling I get when I read a book by A.D. Justice. The writing seemed a bit off, as if someone else had written it because it started off slowly. I was interested in seeing where the story might lead, but it did take a few chapters to get me fully engaged. Once that happened, I was stuck reading until the end with no breaks.
I loved the magical world Justice created. I was put through so many emotions while reading Sara and Saban’s story . . . there was so much romance, mystery, angst, friendship, betrayal, and everything else in between. I kept trying to figure out who this mysteriously evil mage was, what the heck happened to Nana, and if Saban’s feelings toward Sara were true. Was he in love with her or were the feelings Sara was experiencing toward him part of a spell?
I enjoyed Sara’s character. She was strong and independent and thought things through. She wasn’t easily convinced and I liked that about her. Saban seemed to fall quickly for Sara and I am still not sure if that is real or part of some magic. Rycan, the bad boy of this story seems like someone more important in Sara’s life than what I initially thought. I hope to see much, much more of him.
There were too many characters to name, but overall, I enjoyed learning about all of them.
I was completely immersed in the story that when the ending crept on me, I was disappointed, not because I didn’t like where it ended, but because it ended. I wanted to keep reading. I wanted to know what some of the characters’ motivations were, I wanted to find out who was behind certain actions, I wanted . . . so many things, but now we have to wait, and I have to say that I am anxious to see what else A.D. Justice has in store for these characters.
New to me author, I was given a ARC for an honest review.
I have to admit this was a little slow for the first 15-20%, but it picked up and I’m so glad I stuck it through. Having OCD does come in handy at times, especially in a time like this when I was a little unsure wether or not to continue to read, but I did and I am over the moon. This book had me on the edge guessing who the mage is, was Saban honest with his feelings, if maybe the soul mate bond was real or spelled, where nan was. So many things were going through my head, and I was desperate to find out. But then it had to end on a cliffhanger and still I’m not sure what is going to happen. But this book was exceptional, it was full of angst, mystery, suspense, romance, betrayal, and friendships, it was an emotional roller coaster that I was glad to jump on and was not ready for it to come to an end.
Sara/Saraya, is a strong, independent, wilful female character. She may have been young but she never carried on like a young adult. She literally fell into a world she knew nothing about, she has powers, secrets about her past and never once complained, she just soldiered on and went with it.
Saban, I really don’t have much to say about him, from the beginning I had my doubts about him, I felt like he seemed too perfect. Things just didn’t click with him for me and I wasn’t at all disappointed or shocked with that ending. Yes the actual ending with his last deed was a shock and I’m very pi**ed with it. I do hope that he does somehow redeem himself in the next book as I don’t want Sara to feel like a total fool, but I was never on team Saban.
Rycan, I’ve always had a thing for the bad boy and he is it in this book for, although he has very little interactions or appearances in the book, I’ve been rooting for him. I think there is more to him and Sara especially after the wedding scene when they shake hands and Sara’s secrets is revealed to him. I think that the soul bond is between them. (Now don’t take this as truth, but it’s my wishful thought.) but from the moment Rycan appeared in the book chasing Sara intent on killing her, I’ve felt there is so much to him.
Overall a very exciting book with interesting storyline and intriguing characters. I can’t wait for the next book to release and see what is in store for Sara.
I loved this book, which was so different from any I’d ever read by this author before. It had a action packed, magical, enthralling, captivating and emotional at times storyline, with fantastic characters and great descriptions that really drew me into this imaginative world.
Although I literally wanted to scream at the cliff hanger, what a ending, how can I wait.
Sara, is just a normal high school girl, in a normal world. She lives with her Nana, since her parents died when she was very young. Nana owns a store and one day Sara goes to her store, the door has been kicked in and glass is broken. Without thinking of her own safety she rushed inside to make sure Nana was okay, but Nana wasn’t anywhere to be found. Her world is turned upside and then she falls through to another world?! Sadly, she fell into danger and is running for life when she’s saved by a man named Saban. Quickly, she falls for him and they are both convinced they are mates. Or are they?
The story was such a magical story with so many twists, turns, hot moments and an abundance of sitting on the edge of my seat, yelling at my kindle and the author!!! There were mages, vampire, witches, warlocks, wizards and everything you’d expect from a paranormal story!
I’m a huge fan of A. D. Justice and read everything she writes, and this one was so very different from her norm! She did an amazing job! Gotta admit though, as much as I’m not a fan of cliffhangers, this one has the best one I’ve ever read and I look forward to reading book two, which hopefully, will be out soon!!
(4.5) What a rush, great world(s) and a great read. Awesome new series and I am hooked. Took away all the ugliness in our day to day as we engage in Saras world. There are struggles, there are elves, and witches, Mages and warlocks, Mystery, fantasy, sarcasm, romance. This really has it all. So why didn’t I give it a true 5? Saras age. I would get lost in the world, I would be caught up in the story line and then my brain would shoot out the reminder of her age. If she was 20 going on 21 I would have given this a 5, or even if she was 18 or 19. But hey, I am old fuddy duddy and that is the only issue I had with this, Oh it ends a cliff hanger and I can tell you now I will definitely be getting book 2. Thank you A.D. Justice and Booksprout for the arc. All thoughts and opinions are my own and I highly recommend this read.
