This book by the wonderfully talented Betty Shreffler was absolutely fantastic.
The life the author pictured to the readers was harsh, raw and violent – in one word it was real.
Real in the meaning of not always rainbows and unicorns of what little girls dream of, but real when you know you have to fight for everything in your life, and there is absolutely not a single thing given to you on a silver platter. When the s**t hits the fan more often than not but you go on because you have to and this is the only thing you can do. You hold your head high, square your shoulders and keep on going.
What I loved beside this realness was the balance the author kept in her storytelling. Nothing was overdone. There was the harshness of real life, true. But there also was the beauty of love to balance the wrongs.
Erika was a strong female character despite being barely legal. That was yet another thing I really liked in this book. She wasn’t portrayed as someone helpless and silly but as competent and smart.
Dom was also very strong and capable. I really wouldn’t like to use the nowadays overused term of “alpha” to describe him as he was much more than that. He was just and above all a MAN.
He did what he had to and didn’t apologize. He played the hand he’s been dealt. What would be the point to dwell on things of the past? He was loyal to his club and his brothers but wasn’t blind to their faults and stood up against injustice and cruelty. He also was true to his own code of conduct. He gave everything he was to Erika. The good, the bad and the ugly. And he also was the man who righted the wrongs at the end.
The love Erika and Dom found themselves in was really beautiful, desptie the ruins of circumstances it grew out of. They were perfect for each other. Their chemistry was off the charts and their love scenes were steamy and hot.
I liked that there were no games and misunderstandings and other sometimes unnecessary turns, they simply loved and were in love. Of course it doesn’t mean they had it easy, not by a longshot. But why complicate things even further? Life can be s**tty as it is.
I also loved the trust they had for one another and that they were equals. They communicated but not only with words but through touch and look and with their hearts.
Great story, impressive writing. I can only recommend this great read.

What to say about this book. My oh my, Ms. Shreffler knows how to spin a tale that sucks you in and takes you for a ride. This one happened to take you on a ride on the dark side. With Dominic you get all the alpha maleness you would expect from the VP of a MC. Erika is a young girl in the middle of a terrible situation that was brought on by her addict mother and sister. When Dom and Erika cross paths, sparks fly and an all-encompassing fire blazes forth. Without giving away too much of the book, because let us be honest here the not knowing is half the fun, there is a darkness to this book that is intriguing and slightly haunting when you’ve finished. It is so deliciously salacious and it definitely teases your boundaries, whilst managing to be wonderfully entertaining. You want to keep an eye out for whatever Ms. Shreffler has in store for us next.
You know you’ve got sucked in to a good action book when you want to go pack a glock and start shooting bad guys yourself. Lol! Betty Shreffler has outdone herself with Clipped Wings. I seriously got to the point where I read this book nonstop, making the real world fade away. My emotions were all over the place and couldn’t stop reading. I loved every page of Dom and Erika’s story! This is the type of book that no matter how bad a book hangover you’re on, this book will definitely pull you out of a rut. And then suffer the book hangover this story will give you after reading.
One thing I loved about these characters was their amazing chemistry and the changes they both go through, throughout the story. Dom is one hot mofo who fucks hard and loves harder. Wow, can that man get you all twisted in the best way just the way he talks. Be warned to pack an extra pair of panties before reading. He’s one dirty talker that will get you squirming in your seat. Erika showed how strong, loyal and independent she can be. Uses that smart brain of hers to gain ambition and get out of the life she’s stuck in with an absentee junkie mother, leaving her and her sister to figure out life for themselves.
This is book 2 of Betty Shreffler’s MC Romance Series but a complete standalone with its own HEA. Amazingly written in dual POV. Loved this must read book and can’t wait to see anything else Betty will come up with next.
Clipped Wings by Betty Shreffler. This is Dominic “Dom” Xavier and Erika’s (Sparrow) story.
This book is very different from what I normally read. Despite Dom being the VP of the Serpents I felt drawn to his character. Erika’s seemed venerable but still strong. Even though Erika was fairly young she had lived through some really tough situations.
If you love a dark, emotional, steamy and thrilling read, this is one you don’t want to miss. This read will keep you on the edge of your seat.
FYI, contains violence and mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I was gonna wait a bit and let my emotions settle after reading this but then I thought, why? Why not share them….so here you go….sharing!!
Erika……my first thought was too young, too naïve, gonna get her heart or more broken…..was wrong, she is way more mature then her actual age. Can blame that on her family and surroundings, but she wants more from life and isn’t afraid to work hard and stand up for herself.
Enter Dominic, sorry need to take a second……..he’s just that hot! Who expects a MC VP to be this way? This hot, this sexy but he’s a man who knows how to treat a woman! He may be more then she can handle!!!
Now don’t get the wrong idea, this isn’t a book where you go blah blah blah, more sex, where’s the story? This has all the action, danger and emotions you need. Some parts made me cry, a couple made me sit up and go OH CRAP!!! Not a comfortable, easy pass the time read, be ready to be lost in the story and wanting more from these characters, I hated to have it end.
So, that’s my sharing, maybe should have thought before typing but oh well, just hope everyone I tell about it gives it a try!
This book took me to some dark places. It’s gritty and very emotional, and the characters larger than life. Dom was well named. His dominant character had me swooning all over the place and Erika was a match made in heaven for him, she was strong and snarky, wasn’t scared to stand up for herself or to have a snarky answer.
I was completely taken in by these two, they were such a great couple, so passionate and electrifying. The story was filled with twists and turns, intrigue and danger. A definite One-Click buy.
Wow!! Absolutely an emotional read from Betty Shreffler. I cried at all the stuff that Erika has been through in her young life but at the same time, was in awe of how mature she was. Dom? Well what can I say about him! LOL He was perfectly written and I think I fell a little bit in love with him. The emotions, drama, intrigue, danger was all scripted to make the reader feel they were right there with the characters. It’s dark, it’s gritty and it’s a book you want to make sure you have time to just sit and read because it will be hard to put down. If you like MC books, I highly recommend this one.
Raw. Dirty. Gritty. Those are the first few words that come to mind with this story. While Erika is young, she had to grow up in a hurry and Dom was with her every step of the way. I really love how these two played off of each other a lot. Dom, being the VP of his club gave him some leeway however things take a twisted turn. There were a lot of rough moments as Erika tries to navigate being in a relationship with Dom let alone living the way she was prior to him claiming her as his own. I really enjoyed seeing how these two held each other up as they figure things out and move forward. There is a lot of blood and grim getting through it all but Shreffler does this story with finesse and gives a great new twist on MC books! I am really looking forward to more from her with these MC books. I love the rawness of them because they are more savage than some others I have read. I love them!
Intense, gritty, raw, and emotional. This MC romance is realistic and powerful. Dom and Erika are just perfect for each other. Both these characters are strong and complex. They have such amazing chemistry and an emotional connection that can be felt right through the pages. This book is a older man/younger woman romance. The characters are perfectly balanced. Erika may be a bit naïve but she is no shrinking violet/damsel in distress. She is more than a match for Dom. Dom of course is a hard man filled with darkness. However the deep love and affection he feels for Erika creates a warm and beautiful light in his heart. A wonderful read that is filled with action, drama, passion, romance, and a truly beautiful love.
I’ve read, and enjoyed, a couple of books by this author before. While I enjoyed this book, it was on a different level than the others. This book….it’s not what I expected. If you are looking for a good guy, if you are looking for a frou-frou MC story, this is not it. Just a warning, this book leans toward the harsher side of the MC life style.
Dom is the VP of the Devil’s Serpents MC. He is everything you hear about MC. He’s tough, intimidating, and dangerous. But he takes one look at Erika, and his whole life changes. She is everything he didn’t know he wanted.
Erika has had a rough life so far, and it just keeps getting worse. At 18, her life as an adult is starting out looking pretty bleak. Her only goal for her life is to make herself into a better person, get away from the tragedy that was her childhood. The one bright spot, is Dom. She can’t deny the instant attraction to him, and wouldn’t, even if she could.
The connection between Erika and Dom was so bright, so electric, it was irrefutable. There is no denying that Erika and Dom belong together, but there is more at work than just their budding relationship. Someone is working against them. Someone wants to destroy them. Someone wants to tear them apart.
This book is HOT from word 1! Sometimes, it was enough to make me blush, it was so hot! And I never knew what was coming next! There was so much action, so much going on in this book, that I read it in one sitting, because I just couldn’t put it down! I just had to find out what was going to happen. This book was amazing, and the ending, well, I just didn’t see that coming!
Dominic and Erika’s story well this one was intense, their attraction was over the roof. I love the protective side of Dominic, he didn’t want Erika to get involved in his world, but when it does, well you need to know what happens. It was a good story to read, certainly looking forward for the next one.
This is the 2nd book in this phenomenal series, and my word, I am blown away!! I loved Erika and sexy VP Dominic’s story! This is a well written flawless story which is a dark read, and filled with danger, violence, suspense, twists, emotion, passion, and is a steamy and riveting tale which had me totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner. I highly recommend for all MC lovers, and I cannot wait to read more from this phenomenal author.
**3.5**. Ericka, young and innocent, has spent her life fighting g to overcome her upbringing. When her sister starts dating a member of the Serpents MC, she finds herself constantly surrounded by members of the MC who aren’t the most respectful of women. And then there’s Dominic, dark and broody, and who can’t help but find himself attracted to Ericka. These two find that building a relationship may come with heartache and tragedy.
Y’all, this book made me ANGRY. The way that members of this MC treated their “brothers” just blew my mind, but when all was said and done, I was happy with the way it ended. I found the story of this book enjoyable but still feel like it tried to oversell the steam factor.

Have you ever read a book by an author and loved it, and then decided to read another book from the same author been disappointed and wonder how this person wrote both of these books? That’s how I felt with Clipped Wings. I absolutely loved Castle of Kings and was so excited for this book but it just did not do anything for me.
I absolutely love MC books! I was excited at the beginning of Clipped Wings, the way Erika and Dominic’s relationship starts. But for me this book was all sex, now I’ll admit it was hot AF but still I need a plot and a story to go with the sex. I felt Clipped Wings was missing that. But I’m still giving it 3 stars because the sex kept me reading.
I’m still going to be in line to read the next book she decides to release. In my opinion not every book with hit the mark for every person. So my view on this book will not keep me from reading Betty Shreffler in the future.
Another great MC romance from one of my favorite authors, I loved it! This book cause me a sleepless night, so I warn you don’t start it unless you plan to finish it soon. It’s a fast paced novel, which is very thrilling to read. It’s a story full of danger and romance, a perfect mix in my opinion. Although, it is one of those cliché good girl vs bad boy novels, but it’s very unique in its own way. Especially, because of the author’s way of writing, which is always fun to read. It’s a great story with well-written characters, all in all, an awesome read.
Erika is a naïve girl who is suddenly thrown into dangerous world of bikers and drug dealers. Even though she realizes that she shouldn’t feel attracted to Dom but she still can’t help it. He is a commanding man, with an air of danger and intrigue which is very hard for her to resist. And when he shows interest in her she is a goner…
Dom knows that he probably doesn’t deserve Erika but he what can he say she is alluring. She makes him want things he has never thought about before. With her he wants to live a happy life. He wants to protect her and love her for the rest of their lives, only if she would let him…
In this book two mismatched people find happiness together. But it will not be easy fro them as life can be bit unfair as well as unpredictable at time, however, they are willing to go against odds.
Beware: This book has the potential to make you cry, in addition to making you feel a lot of other emotions. 😉
