An emotional love story that follows the touch-and-go relationship of Hayden and Tenley; two young people who desperately want to love and be loved but are afraid to completely let go of their pasts. Their body art is hot. Their chemistry is even hotter. From her dark hair sweeping below her waist to her soft, sexy curves, Tenley Page intrigues tattoo artist Hayden Stryker in a way no one else … a way no one else ever has…especially when she asks him to ink a gorgeous, intricate design on her back. Yet for all her beauty, there is something darkly tragic and damaged about Tenley that Hayden is everything.
Covered in ink and steel, Hayden is everything Tenley has never dared to want, awakening a desire to explore more than the art adorning his stunning body. Trapped by a past that leaves her screaming from nightmares, Tenley sees Hayden as the perfect escape. Although he has secrets too, if they both keep themselves guarded perhaps their intense physical connection will remain only that.
But nothing, not even passion, can keep them safe from their pasts…more
Ahhhh I forgot how much I love this book! I read these novels years ago when they first came out and really loved them. Despite being in the middle of another audiobook already, when I spotted Clipped Wings online I couldn’t help myself and completely derailed my reading schedule by starting it.
This book is completely filled with drama. From beginning to end it’s nothing but angsty longing, bad decisions, and heartbreak. I wanted to shake some sense into the characters more than once. But despite all this, there’s something so lovable about Hayden and Tenley. They’re both such flawed characters, but that’s really their appeal. It’s so nice watching their relationship grow as they find solace in one another while trying to overcome their complicated pasts.
And as a person with several tattoos of my own, I really REALLY love the way body art and body modification was represented in this. I know what it’s like to get an important personal tattoo along with the heavy emotions that accompany them and it seemed like the author does too. It all felt so real to me that I really have to hand it to Hunting for her wonderful writing and descriptions.
↬ FINAL WORD
I loved this. If you like emotional romances with a bit a drama, then you’ll definitely like this one.
I’m giving this a strong 4.5. What an awesome story! Some parts made my heart hurt. Both have tragic pasts they that don’t deal with very well. To me, you can get through anything with the right person. But gah, there’s a cliffy! I need to read the second book!
Hayden that boy tries so hard to act cool around Tenley it’s funny, “I know. I saw that, too. You were bada**. It was hot.” I wished I could take the last part back even though it was true. “What happened to your hand?” Hayden’s thoughts are consumed of Tenley, “she had great legs, the kind I wanted wrapped around my waist, or my head, whichever. I wasn’t picky.” You do not interrupt Hayden and Tenley when they are having a moment the boy will bite your damn head off, “she’s here to show me her design,” I said, irritated by Lisa’s inopportune interruption and my own inability to keep my hands and my mouth to myself.” Hayden gives the best wake up calls, “Tenley stirred beside me, uncurling into a stretch. Her body went rigid while her muscles vibrated, then she threw her leg over mine, trapping my di** under her hip. I palmed her a**, pulling her tighter against me, her little moan a sign I wasn’t the only one up.” I mean they know how to thoroughly clean each other, job well done I’d say, “the shower took a long time. It wasn’t my fault, either. Tenley took great care in making sure I was clean. She paid special attention to the front of my body, particularly the groin region. I didn’t complain, and neither did my di**. Then I returned the fvor, because I was all about equity.” I really enjoyed reading this book.
4.5/5 Stars
Clipped Wings tells the story of Tenley who suffered a traumatic experience and is trying to live with both the physical and emotional damage from that experience. Tenley harbors a lot of guilt that she battles with on a daily basis. But when she’s with sexy tatted and pierced Hayden who owns the tatto parlor Inked Armor across the street from her place and who also happens to be the nephew of her employer, she can’t help but to feel again. Hayden awakens things in her she never thought she’d feel again and being with him takes away all the pain.
Hayden on the other hand has his own demons that he battles with, also having experienced something so traumatic that he spiraled out of control in the worse way. But Hayden completely turned his life around and is trying to move on from all the terrible things he’s done. But like Tenley he has secrets he doesn’t want anyone to know and the past never stays in the past.
Hayden and Tenley are two severely damaged people who battle with the emotional toll of the dark and painful things that have happened to them. When they are together anything seems possible. I absolutely loved when they were together even though each of them refused to divulge much information from their past, but in slow baby steps you learn more and more about their past as they open up to one another. Tenley at first was kinda using Hayden to help forget about the past but their relationship evolved into something more. Hayden is soo messed up, but I liked that he realized when he was being irrational and acted a little crazy. He tries to change and be better for her. He of course doesn’t do this alone, he has the help of his closest friends Chris, Jamie, and Lisa who also work at Inked Armor with him. I like that he has positive people who will give it to him straight and tell him when he’s being an ass. There aren’t enough supporting characters in books who do this.
I highly suggest this book to anyone who can handle it. There some hot sex scenes and Hayden can be possessive(which he actually acknowledges). I couldn’t put this book down because I so wanted to see Hayden and Tenley get together and work through their pain and suffering, and let go of their pasts. They are very damaged and messed up, more-so Hayden I would say, but I enjoyed watching him grow and try to be what Tenley needs.
I picked up Clipped Wings, not really knowing what to expect. All I knew going in was that it wasn’t really a rom-com. I honestly didn’t expect to like it as much as some of her other books when I first started it, but…spoiler alert, I freaking loved it!u2063

The story focuses on Hayden, a tattoo artist, and shop owner, and Tenley, a woman who works across the street in his aunt’s shop. After some awkward interactions, she decides to talk to him about the new piece she wants on her back. The story really begins here and becomes way more emotional than I was expecting.u2063

We get a beautiful story of heartbreak, internal (and external) scars, and healing. Dealing with the death of loved ones is a major component of this book and while each story was different, they were both done incredibly well!u2063

I went right into the short novella and then into Inked Armor after this one to get the rest of the story!
Clipped Wings is a darker and more emotional book than I thought it was going to be. I’ve read the Pucked series, and thoroughly enjoyed all of them, and I knew this series was going to be different, but I didn’t realize just how different it was. It still has its funny moments, but it’s not that kind of book. It took a bit of getting used to Tenley and Hayden and their mindsets as their pasts are being revealed. Neither is in the best mindspace and they often have some depressing views on life and what they deserve from it. They both have really tragic pasts so it’s not the easiest to relate to them, but it’s definitely easy to empathize with them. Their relationship made me happy because it made them happy and allowed them to forget about their pasts for a while. They’re cute when their with each other. I especially like the side of Hayden that gets brought out because of Tenley. There are several characters that I hate and wish they would just go away, but that would be too easy. The storyline was interesting, especially as more and more truths are revealed. The ending is intense for sure. I’m not exactly sure how I feel about it, especially Tenley’s actions or lack thereof. I’m hoping to see more of the firecracker side of her comeout in the next book.
Holy smokes, what did I just read!?! This book gutted me. I had to stop several times to take a deep breath while reading Clipped Wings. Tenly and Hayden have both suffered unimaginable loss. They seem to have found something within one another that they needed. This is such a beautiful, tragic love story in the making.
I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end! And I fell in love with the characters. A MUST READ!!
I really loved this book. I don’t even know what to write about how it made me feel- it gave me anxiety and hurt my heart, but it also made me happy and gave me a feeling of contentment, which is so contradictory. I want to wrap both Tenley and Hayden up in my arms and tell them everything will be okay.
