The alpha was supposed to be mine. Our fates were decided by the Moon herself, but he chose to follow his own path to a future that didn’t include me. Accepting my destined mate’s rejection was the hardest thing I ever had to do, and it cost me my pack, my friends, and in the end…my home. Now, four years later I have to rejoin my old pack, forced to see him love another female. Her scent is mixed … Her scent is mixed into the crevices of his skin, and every breath I take is slowly killing me little by little.
How do you tell yourself not to breathe?
But there’s one more element to this story, something I didn’t count on…and his name is Dallas Valentine.
I’m drawn to him in a way I can’t explain. There’s something about him, about the scent of his secrets that lures me in, tempting my most primal instincts. But he’s not destined for me, and what chance do I stand against fate?

Clayton is one of my all time favorite from Rachelle. This book has every element a reader looks for. If you like books that make you feel the pain and heartbreak, this is it.
One might think this is another rejection story, but it isn’t. It has more element to it.
Based in the world of werewolf shifters we are introduced to Rya’s punishment being delivered. She’s whipped for her attack on fellow packmate and the story unfolds from her point of view.
Clayton, the future alpha of the pack rejects Rya as his mate because he is in love with Kennedy, his childhood friend. The alpha not only punishes her but also restrict other pack members to get involved with her. Rya struggles to accept the rejection and moves out of the pack.
Years later, when Clayton’s pack is in need of a mid-wife, Rya is forced to move back. Now, occupying the dead mid-wife’s lake side home, she is forced to endure the demons from her past. Slowly but surely, the pack warms up to her, but the difficult of all was watching him with her.
Rya steers clear of Clayton and Kennedy, but it’s hard with them being everywhere she goes. And, Clayton now a mature wolf is affected by the mate bond though he doesn’t show it outside. The wolf is in disagreement with his human self.
When Rya tries to adjust in the pack, she meets the pack doctor Dallas, who is too handsome for his own good. Dallas too has a past and the two broken souls slowly warm up to each other when Clayton decides to crash the party.
The rest is for the readers to read and figure out. But I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed. I’m in love with how Rya’s character evolved throughout the story. We see her as a teenager and then she grows into this wonderful and strong woman, who isn’t afraid to make her decisions. I love how she learns to love and trust again, especially how she learns to love herself.
Rachelle has once again exceeded the reader’s expectation with one of her strong female leads. The author is known for her unique world of werewolves in its raw nature. So don’t expect a cliché and keep an open mind. The story hits you so hard that it’d be days before you can even think of another story.
The characters just stay with you like forever. It’s the Rachelle magic. Again, none of the characters in this book has it easy. Everyone has their reasons and back stories. Everyone contribute equally and by the end I even found it hard to hate Clayton.
The only question I had when I finished was, “Can you blame someone for falling in love?” You’ll understand this while reading.
This story is divided into two parts because of the length. The second part is coming out in January, so stay tuned.Clayton
Clayton I love Rachelle Mills’ writing. She knows how to bring a mix of emotion, angst and pain into a storyline that may be dark and foreboding, but always leaves hope. Clayton is no different. This is probably my favorite of Rachelle’s werewolf books. Rya suffers at the hand of her mate. He plans her rejection to make sure his choice mate is loved by the pack … all at Rya’s expense. Clayton, the future alpha, needs Kennedy, his choice mate, to be accepted by his pack. Thus, he has to make sure Rya is loathed and humiliated in front of the pack so they will think her unworthy of being their Luna.
Rya not only is rejected but whipped and shunned. The scars are deep and festering, both physical, mental and emotional. She is damaged and broken and feels hopeless. For her, life may as well be over. However, she finally is able to see a little light. She is able to leave the pack for midwifery school. While away, she learns to accept her fate and concentrate on learning her new trade. Here we start to see Rya grow and mature. We get glimpses of her inner strength and see just how admirable she is.
*Slight Spoilers Follow*
A few years later Rya is summoned back to her old pack. They need a midwife. She has no choice in the matter. She must go. She must face the mate that rejected her as well as his choice mate. But things are a little bit different now. That judgmental, uncaring pack, now needs Rya, she doesn’t need them. They see how she has bloomed, has grown and holds the lives of their pups in her hands. Clayton notices all this too. He still loves Kennedy but his wolf does’t always agree, especially when the good looking pack doctor is drawn to Rya.
Just know that things now get verrrry interesting. Remember, there always are consequences to choices….
But I must wonder if Clayton, Kennedy and all those arrogant pack leaders finally realize that it doesn’t pay to fool mother nature?
This book was recommended by a friend and all she had to say was fated mates and I was sold. Then I read the blurb and I knew it was over. I knew this book was going to absolutely destroy me. So many twists and turns that I NEVER saw coming.
The angst in this was off the charts ridiculous and you could feel the emotions from the very first chapter. There were some parts in the story that I found difficult to follow, as in it kind of dragged the story in some parts but I am 1000% invested in this story, this series and this author. What a fantastic spin to paranormal romance.
3.5
I have some mixed feelings… this is obviously different than a lot of shifter books, so I am trying to ignore what I am used too. I’m looking at it as if I don’t know much about shifters.
In one bit, I really like some of the new elements, but in others not so much. I love the idea of Fated Mates. That one person for you. This was hard to read because this book twists Fated Mates a bit.
On the other side, I also loved the idea of personal redemption in finding the one who would actually fit best. I loved how Rya grew and found someone who could cherish her for her.
This book still caught my interest enough that I read it quickly and needed to know what happens next. I especially love the brothers and the dynamic that it adds.
Some of the scene changes were hard to follow and I feel like the reader needed to do a bit of assuming to understand the story instead of the story providing us everything that we need.

This novel is the first in the wildflower series and Rachelle did not disappoint with her introduction into this world. The characters come to life with their authentic personalities and you cannot help but to fall in love with them as they all go through this emotional journey. We can all learn something from them.
We meet Rya, a female rejected and scarred by her mate, Clayton, and his choice. Managing to escape her pack, years later she is forced to come back as the midwife and face the past she walked away from. Upon returning she meets the new Doctor, Dr. Valentine. Dallas is a male that is simply breathing in life. Losing his mate he leaves his home pack to attend medical school. Relocating to a new pack he starts to settle until the packs midwife passes and a new one is brought in. After meeting Rya he slowly learns how to do more than only breathing, he learns to live again.
So much more than a spicy romance the author sheds light on the darkness people face in life. No matter how difficult things may be and the cards we are dealt, Rya reminds us we can continue forward. Watching her shed away the shell of her heartache and rejection from her adolescent years and stepping into someone more that she can become is both touching and inspiring. Through Dallas, we learn that heartache and loss may happen to us and although we may lose our way as we skirt through our darkness, we can always step back on our paths again. We can do more than solely move through life. Breath down deeper and take everything in.
Rachelle Mills is an Amazing author who has the Best to offer all the lovers of reading!!
Clayton, book 1 of the Wildflower series is a gripping, captivating and soul conquering story.
It’s written with Raw passion and Real emotions. She has this innate Gift to make us readers love every word of the book.
Love this immensely. A great book to fall in love with!!
What a hauntingly, beautiful love story. From the very first page, it’s full of heart-break. The story of the rejection of fated-love of Rya and how that shaped her is so . . . Ah, I have a hard time deciding on words. Let’s just say I cried through most of the book. The author pulls you in from the very beginning into Rya’s world and into her pain. You are emerst in it and the despair of it grips you. You just want someone to want Rya, first and not reject her. It’s a beautiful story. I so look forward to next book.
First book I have read by Rachelle. Very interesting storyline. Shocking ending. Rya is shunned from the pack. She comes back not knowing what to expect. Chaos is what happens. Two males are fighting over her. Which one is really her mate? Well written very interesting story line. Page turner with interesting characters. Can’t wait to see what happens in the next one.Highly recommend.
Awesome book
This is the most messed up “fated mates” shifter story I’ve ever read. It was so full of angst from page one to the end. Don’t pick it up if you can’t handle it.
I have loved this story from the first time I read it
Rachelle is a master story teller
Book 1 of 2. Dallas comes next.
Also part of The Wildflowers Series.
Clayton loves Kennedy, Kennedy loves Clayton. They are wrong for each other, but they choose each other. Along comes Rya, sweet innocent Rya. How do you live when your mate has chosen another? How do you go on when all your friends and pack turn their back’s on you?
Rachelle is a new writer, who brings a new way of thinking into the world of werewolves. She is an amazing writer and I’m excited to have found her.
I stumbled upon this book, and I’m glad I did. This isn’t the genre I usually read. But something drew me to this book. Once I read the sample, I knew I had to know more.
Rya is part of a pack of wolves. As a teenager, she learns who her mate is. Only to be rejected, by the one she’s meant to be with. Not only rejected but shunned by the whole pack. She leads a lonely life, one I can’t believe she was able to get through. I just felt her loneliness and that heartache that just tore at her every day.
One point she able to get away and go to school. Putting distance between the mate she wants, who wants nothing to do with her. Until she is called home.
I have mixed feelings about this story. It was enjoyable and did make me feel that ache in my chest. As the story went on, I would get lost in some parts. She would be doing something, and then all of a sudden were in another scene. Also, when she is switched to being her wolf. It’s in third person like they weren’t part of each other. I think it threw me off a bit. But it was a good story, with lots and lots of drama.
Overall, I’m giving this Three Boundless Stars
