I love a good unrequited romance and Kadie Scott’s latest, Claiming the Cowboy for Christmas, is just that. Add in a twin sister, an ex, and the ex-best friend with all things small town, and you have this sweet and sexy cowboy romance. I couldn’t wait to see how things would change and develop for Ashley and Jennings.
Claiming the Cowboy for Christmas is a good addition to the Hills of Texas.
Ashley and Eric dated for quite a few years but he never once asked Ashley to marry him. It turns out that Eric has feelings for Ashley’s twin sister Taylor and she has feelings for Eric but she was afraid if she acted on them then she would be hurting Ashley. Ashley tried to convince them that she was over Eric and that Taylor and Eric were free to get married if that’s what they want.
Now Ashley is home to be Maid of Honor at her sister’s wedding. Taylor will be marrying Eric. Everyone is treading lightly around Ashley hoping to not hurt her feelings and she keeps trying to convince them that she is fine with the marriage.
Her old friend Jennings Hill starts to come around again and Ashley wonders why when they were in school he turned away from being friends with her to acting like he hated her.
It’s a really cute story and will keep you engaged until the very end. I really enjoyed it.
I have really enjoyed reading this series, loved Jennings and Ashley’s storyline. Will Jennings get his second chance after pining over his best friend? His brother Taylor was dating Ashley first all those years ago while he kept his feelings to himself, now he may get his chance even if it’s a fake romance as a +1 date to the wedding. You will have to 1-click to see how this plays out.

I had a hard time getting past the h’s sister marrying the h’s ex.
I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Ashley has to return home since she is the brides sister and must be at the wedding. Problem is her sisters groom is her ex. How can she go to this and not have everyone watching for her to fall apart. She is over him but no one in the town will believe it. Jennings is Ashley’s friend but things in the past said and done ended that friendship. things said and done taken he wrong way put a finish to it. However Ashley needs Jennings as a front and asks him to be her date to the wedding and pretend there is something between them. Jennings does it as he still has feelings for her. A second chance romance that makes you believe that these two should have been together the first time. Loved it and a part of a series however can be read alone.
A second chance romance read. Everyone likes a Christmas wedding unless you’re the bride’s sister and the groom is your ex. Throw in an unavoidable trip back home and your ex best friend. All this has Ashley in system overload. She hates gossip and knows there’s going to be a lot. Jennings is the silent brooding type and has always had a thing for Ashley beyond friendship. She’s the one he never got over but didn’t know it. They were great friends until they weren’t. Miscommunications……. One could say they became like oil and water always bickering saying the wrong things to each other. The makings for heated chemistry between them. Pretending to be in a fake relationship soon backfires– real feelings start coming to the surface. I really enjoyed this book. First for me in this series and by this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC from Tule Publishing.
Ashley is glad to be home, she’s missed her family, especially her twin Taylor. Two years has been long enough. But if she stays that’s a whole different matter.
Taylor is marrying Ashley’s ex!!! Could that be anymore awkward? To outsiders and Taylor, yes it is, but to Ashley, her and Eric broke up a long time ago. She’s moved on, she’s happy for the couple, the only reason she stayed away….. to give the gossips time to move on….. no such luck!!! Ashley is met with awkward silences and pitying looks!!
Taking Taylor out on her bachelorette party is an ideal way to put the gossips to bed for go. But as it goes from bad to worse, Ashley is wanting to head back to Dallas, pretty darn quick. Thank goodness she’s only here till the New Year, surely she can survive till then?
Jennings Hill has always loved Ashley, from the first day at preschool until the day she dumped him to be with Eric. They were best friends, did everything together, and then he had to watch his best friend change to please the boyfriend. So to hide his feelings from everyone (including himself) he began to antagonise Ashley. Never getting close to her. But that’s all about to change, dancing with Ashley has set the gossips in motion. What’s a guy to do? Does he help an old friend out? Or does he just walk away and leave her to deal with it?
Jennings asks Ashley if she’ll looking into a case of fraud for him, and Ashley quickly agrees, they might not be friends now, but they were a long time ago.
The more time they spend together, the more Ashley sees him in a different light. Yes, she may have had a slight crush on him, but he was her best friend, she really shouldn’t be imaging him in that way!!!
Jennings on the other hand thinks Ashley still isn’t over Eric!! He’s frustrated, why can’t she see what’s in front of her?
So ……
will Ashley stay in Texas? Will she convince Jennings that she is totally over Eric? And will Eric finally get the girl he has always longed for?
I have come to love this series and this one cemented my feelings.
We are back with the Hills family, where each of the siblings is finding love. This time it’s Jennings Hill’s story.
He and Ashley Hughes had been friends since they were children , but Ashley’s new boyfriend HS got between them, and things were never the same.
Fate brings them together when her sister Taylor and Ashley’s ex-boyfriend (yes, you read it right!) are about to get married.
Jennings wonders if Ashley is really over her ex. As they “pretend” to be together to stop the rumors in town, will they realize how good they are together?
A sweet and touching second chance romance , perfect for the holiday season.
