He’ll do whatever it takes to protect his pride from them, but when a lone female wanders into his territory, it isn’t a burning … burning need to drive her away he’s feeling and it isn’t his pride that needs protecting—it’s his heart.

Claimed by her Cougar is the first book in Felicity Heaton’s all new paranormal/shifter series Cougar Creek Mates.
Rath is a Cougar shifter living a quite and simply life in the mountains. He maintains cabins for his kind hidden in the mountains. For when the Shifters need a safe place to meet or when the female Cougars are in heat for mating.
As Rath is busy getting the area prepared when something catches his attention. Thinking Hunters have found their safe haven he investigates. Only its not a gun he finds being pointed at him but a camera!!
Ivy is a photographer, she has been sent to capture photo’s of the mountain Black Bears. But what she stumbles upon is about to irrevocably change her life.
Rath is a very guarded person for very good reasons. So when his path crosses with Ivy he’s very wary of her reasons for being there. He soon realises that there is even more to Ivy, that she is his one and only true mate. But how does he push her away for her own safety and the safety of the returning shifters. When his Cougar side calls for it’s true mate, calls for her!
Ivy doesn’t understand the hot and cold feelings she’s getting from Rath. She knows he want her but he’s still trying to keep his distance. All is revealed when her boss unexpectedly shows up and she finds out the real reason she was sent there. Is she strong enough to face this new challenge.
I enjoyed Rath and Ivy’s story it was written and paced very well. I love that Felicity doesn’t just give us a romance story in her writing. She gives us so much more with the scenery she writes about and the connection with her characters. Gives us more depth and feelings to this paranormal/shifter world. With the hint we get at the end of this first book i’m looking forward to carrying on with this new shifter three book series.
First story in a new series which starts us off with a bang.
Rath hates hunters plain and simple, he also refuses to be apart of his prides wanting him to mate with whom is chosen for him.
Ivy is a young woman who loves photography and she finds herself on Rath’ land chasing photos of bears. She is being sponsored by well what she only thought of as a jerk. But this woman is in for one heck of a shock.
When the mating call and fates join together it’s next to impossible to ignore them and Rath may be a strong male but is he strong enough?
Great start to a new series
Claimed by her Cougar is the fist book in Cougar Creek Mates series by Felicity Heaton. We get to return to one of my favorite universes the Eternal Mates. This story stands on it’s own, so if you have’t read the Eternal Mates series, you are ok to pick this up. It’s a chance to visit a different kind of shifter and see how they deal with the Archangel organization and other things.
Heaton takes us into the lovely Canadian woods with a bunch of cougar shifters who will soon be getting together for the pride gathering.
Rath is battling his cougar nature. It’s that time of year and many of the cougars in his pride will be returning home for the gathering. Rath was a nice character to get to know and we got to see him battling a lot of conflicting feels in this story.
Ivy is a human and stumbles onto Rath’s home while looking for black bears to photograph. She’s hesitant at first; because she’s had her issues with difficult men and doesn’t want to get hurt again. I liked her passion and pride in her photograph work.
Claimed by her Cougar is a quick read. It’s insta-attraction leading into them being mates. The sexual scenes are steamy and we get only one scene with a little conflict. What I loved the most about this story is the detailed description of the scenery in the Canadian woods. It brought nature to life.
I enjoyed Claimed by her Cougar and am looking forward to the others in the series.
Rated: 3.5 Stars
*Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy provided by Felicity Heaton with the sole purpose of an honest review. All thoughts, comments and ratings are my own.
Felicity Heaton has once again written an outstanding paranormal romance. It has all the elements that are the hallmarks of that genre firmly in place. We enter the world of the Cougar Shifters of Cougar Creek and Rath as he rabidly protects his pride’s secret. Enter Ivy, a curvy photojournalist who’s looking to photograph black bears in the wild. Little did they know that their encounter would change their lives forever. Can the evil specter of revenge and hate stop this mated pair from finding their happiness? Read Claimed by Her Cougar for the answer. This promises to be another great series to add to Ms. Heaton’s prodigious body of work. Highly recommended.
WOW, did I love this book!!
Felicity has really been on a roll lately, first with her recent release, Esher (he is my favorite hero of all time) and now with this book…I’m ECSTATIC to read the next one!
Firstly, I LOVE the idea of the “true mate” or the “fated mate,” and that’s what this book was all about. But Felicity drew it out so perfectly, from when the couple first mt each other to Rath’s realization (and resistance to) their pull towards each other.
As always, the imagery was perfectly done. I felit like I was at Cougar Creek seeing the mist rising off the water and the black bears and Rath’s shirtless fly fishing 🙂
I am THRILLED there are more book sin the series, and I’m dying to read them all!!!
(I received a copy of this book in consideration of my honest thoughts)
Ivy Wentworth is a photographer. She hit a slump a while ago but has put that behind her and rediscovered her love for wildlife photography. She is trying to do a series on all the types of bears. She has been told that there should be some in this beautiful wilderness.
Cougar shifter, Rath prefers living a solitary existence. Unfortunately each year the pride gathers under his family’s protection. What he doesn’t need while he is preparing the cabins is a human in the area.
A very fast paced story with fabulous characters and lots of action. Our hero has a very good reason for what our heroine thinks is paranoia.
This is the start of a new series from our lovely author. She has tied it, slightly, to her other series by giving them a common enemy. There is no need to have read any of her previous works but, it will get you hooked and looking for more.
I loved every page and can’t wait for the next one.
3.75 stars–CLAIMED BY HER COUGAR is the first instalment in Felicity Heaton’s contemporary, adult COUGAR CREEK MATES paranormal, romance series focusing on the cougar shifters of Cougar Creek, Canada. This is cougar shifter Rath, and human photographer Ivy’s story line. The Cougar Creek Mates series is a spin-off from the author’s Eternal Mates series. It is not necessary to have read the previous series but there is an on-going premise throughout with the inclusion of the group known as Archangel.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Ivy and Rath) CLAIMED BY HER COUGAR follows the building relationship between cougar shifter Rath, and human photographer Ivy. With the approach of the ‘pride gathering’, a time of mating heat between unmated females and males, Rath must ensure the protection of his kind but the unexpected and unwelcome arrival of a human photographer puts Rath on alert to the possibility of the return of Archangel, a group of human hunters who hunt the supernatural beings for experimentation and torture. Enter Ivy, the woman with whom Rath would fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship between Rath and Ivy, and the potential fall-out with the return of Archangel, and its’ possible connections to our story line heroine.
Rath knows grief at the hands of Archangel, having lost his parents, his mate and unborn child to a group of human killers whose goal in life is to destroy that which they do not know. Ivy struggles in the face of rejection and betrayal but her love of photography is the soul source of happiness for our story line heroine.
Like most of Felicity Heaton’s story lines CLAIMED BY HER COUGAR is more of a narrative where the story is told through thoughts and the emotional struggle of fated attraction. The relationship between Ivy and Rath is one of immediate attraction; an insta lust/love attraction but with the ‘gathering’ on the horizon Rath is worried that Ivy, as an unclaimed female, will be targeted by the unmated males forcing our hero to kill in order to protect. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.
We are introduced to Rath’s brother Storm, another unmated male who suspects his brother is out of his element with the human female Ivy; cougar shifter Ember; Ivy’s boss and former lover Alexander, and Alexander’s sister Gabriella. Gabriella and Storm’s story is next in CAPTURED BY HER COUGAR.
CLAIMED BY HER COUGAR is a quick read; a flirty story with a feisty heroine and protective hero. The premise is entertaining; the romance is fast and furious; the characters are spirited and passionate.
I thought this was a pretty good read. I enjoyed it and would recommend it.
Claimed by each other, more like
The style of the writing seems very natural, characters talk like people do, and when you read their thoughts, it’s the same, it’s said the way we think. A fairly quick book, everything happens over only a few days, with a dramatic ending that means you need to read the rest of the series for the unanswered questions. A fun read, with a different take to most shifter books.
I’ve loved Felicity Heaton’s writing style, world building and character development since I the first book I read by a lady who is definitely in my top 5 author list!
Claimed by her Cougar is the first book in the new Cougar Creek Mates series which is a spin from the fab Eternal Mates series by Ms Heaton.
I liked the change of setting for this series; while I love that a lot of the action in the EM series took place in London, I loved the descriptions of this new setting. The addition of the hated Archangel organisation, in a slightly different vein, was interesting too.
Rath was kinda what you’d expect of one of Felicity leading men – I do adore her kinda busted and gruff heroes. On first meeting him he comes across as a total arse but as the book progresses and we find out his secret, and why he is so distrusting of outsiders, you can understand his attitude and it helps that his reaction and attraction to Ivy starts softening his view and demeanor
Ivy was a determined lady who was passionate about her job and couldn’t understand why Rath had such an issue with her being around. She’d been badly burned by someone she had trusted and the last thing she needed was another man dictating what she could and couldn’t do. She was also desperate to make a success of her current assignment so she could move on to bigger, more important work. How would she react if and when she eventually found out what he was hiding.
Rath tries to deny to himself that Ivy is his fated mate and while she has no idea of what’s really happening between them she knows there is something more to the attraction and feelings she has for him.
As ever, the story was well written, engaging and you could so easily imagine the settlement that was Rath’s home from Felicity’s description. The heat between the pair was combustible, even when they were trying to fight it. With action, suspense and sexy shifters, this book had me caught from the first chapter.
I’m really looking forward to the other books in this new series and to seeing more of Rath and Ivy as well as his brothers, one of whom we were introduced to in ‘Claimed’
A solid 5* recommended read – even if you haven’t read the Eternal Mates series, or indeed any of Felicity Heaton’s previous books, this is easily a standalone and a great place to introduce yourself to some fabulous #PNR story telling.
Loved the storyline
A Refreshingly Complex & More Realistic Shifter Romance… Before this book I had never read anything by Felicity Heaton, but after reading an email sent to me by a social media follower I was intrigued, so I gave it a go. And am I so ever glad I did as “Claimed by Her Cougar” is a refreshingly sophisticated, emotionally complex story. It is a more serious take on shifters and the concept of fated mates, and is far beyond the realm of many other paranormal romance books I’ve read, which often focus purely on over-the-top sex scenes and are short on plot.
The story of Rath, a cougar shifter tasked with protecting the remaining members of his pride after a viscous assault by a human group intent on experimenting upon and extermination shifter kind. And Ivy, a human wildlife photographer, emotionally lost after suffering betrayal, and struggling to regain her professional passion. It is a tale of two worlds pre-ordained by destiny to collide despite one being intentionally hidden from view for its own safety.
Here, Heaton’s shifter world is stunningly intense and emotional. You see in your mind’s eye, the beauty of Cougar Creek as Ivy sees it before her. You’re almost able to feel the mist from the mountain on your skin as she lays waiting to capture her beloved wildlife on film. Your senses are set on fire as you feel Rath’s fear and turmoil over protecting his home in your own gut; its breath stealing power ratcheting deeper and deeper with every page turned.
It is a story brought alive before you by Heaton’s elegant prose. And one that honestly for me, read more like a classic novel than a shifter romance. So alluring is this book, so suspenseful and sharp in its detail, you will gasp with its brutality, hurt in kind over its many heartbreaks, and allow it to touch your very soul with its fierce refusal to give in to fear.
Unlike others in this genre, the world of Cougar Creek skips the purely fanciful and paints a more relatable and realistic picture of what shifters like Rath and his brothers would face if they truly existed. I found it to be a startlingly accurate portrayal of how hateful humans can be when fearful and/or obsessed with something unique and unfamiliar. And although a work of fiction, it is not so far removed from how humanity throughout history have treated those unknown to them or viewed those deemed as being beneath them. And the fictional Archangel can easily be interchanged with groups who’ve conducted similar atrocities throughout our own human history, such as trials performed on living beings by both cosmetic and pharmaceutical corporations even to this day.
Yes it is still a sexy story, with a gloriously sexy alpha. Yes the driving focus of this story is the mate bond between Rath and Ivy. But unlike others within the shifter realm, this one actually relates to real life issues such as hate, fear, human experimentation, scientific greed, and the potential horrors of demented group-think. It is a gloriously intelligent paranormal romance, and both this book and the author are deserving of your full attention!
Great start but could have been a little longer
Enjoyed
