Rath is one cougar shifter not looking for a mate… until Ivy strays into his territory.Having lost his parents and mate in a brutal attack on his cougar shifter pride by a hunter organisation, Rath burns with a need to keep humans off his land and out of his life. He’ll do whatever it takes to protect his pride from them, but when a lone female wanders into his territory, it isn’t a burning … burning need to drive her away he’s feeling and it isn’t his pride that needs protecting—it’s his heart.
Down on her luck, Ivy follows a lead to a spot where she hopes to photograph black bears, but what she discovers there is a mountain of a man who lacks manners and seems determined to drive her off his property—a man who stirs unbidden fire in her veins and a strange sense of home.
With a pride gathering on the verge of happening at Cougar Creek and the air charged with a mating heat, the last thing Rath needs is a human on his land, especially one as beautiful and alluring as Ivy, one who rouses a fierce need to fight for her, but he can’t convince himself to let her go… and that proves dangerous for them both.

I enjoyed it and enjoyed story line
Predictable, stilted, and very short
I really liked it just wish the ending continued a little more about the relationship.
I enjoy this book it made me laugh. But kept me going with th story. I love thàt the guy wasn’t just the hero but the girl saved him. They were equals in the relationship.
This four book series is a spin off from her “Eternal Mates” you don’t have to read the previous series, these happily stand alone.
Rath hates the job that he does, he’d like nothing better than to live his life in peace and quiet, but his family look after a group of cabins that belong to cougar shifters, and once a year, they all descend upon the area, to fight and win the chance of either mating a female or easing her “needing.”
Ivy is a nature photographer, her specialty is bears. And after receiving a tip off about a group of black bears, Ivy is off in search of bears and inspiration.
Ivy and Rath don’t meet under the best of circumstances, he’s suspicious of why a human woman is out in his area of the forest, and until he sees evidence on her camera, he is very distrusting. Ivy can’t believe what a rude and arrogant man he is, he can’t order her out of the forest.
Then when other male cougar shifters start to invade the area, Rath is overtaken with the urge to fight for Ivy. But he doesn’t trust humans (they killed a large group of cougar shifters many years ago, including his parents and mate)
So can he trust this human female? Is she really a photographer? Or is she a spy for the hunters?
And what about Ivy, does she trust this rude mountain man? And what’s the secret he’s keeping from her?
Loved it
This was my first book by this author and I loved it. This book was so hard to put down it hooked me from the beginning. Can’t wait to see where this series goes.
I started reading Claimed by her Cougar in the late afternoon on 11/3 and ended up finishing it at midnight 11/4. I would’ve finished it sooner, but the life of a mom/wife on a Saturday never ends. I have to take breaks from reading to take of responsibilities around the house.
Claimed by her Cougar is the first book in Felicity Heaton’s Cougar Creek Mates series. Now that she has 4 books in the series out, I’m going to read them back to back.
The first book in the series introduces Rath one of the cougar shifters who is responsible for the cabins at Cougar Creek and protecting the pride from being discovered by humans. The last time humans knew where the cougar pride was when his parents were killed by hunters. He ends up finding a human female on his property near the river and he’s determined to drive her away, but for some reason, she intrigues him. Ivy is a photographer who was told that black bears would be around the creek that she currently is at. She is determined to take photos to redeem her love for photography again and get some amazing photos to her sponsors. She never thought she would come across an ill-mannered man who is determined to drive her off the property. He’s a sexy ill-mannered man though that is hard to resist though.
This is when you either have a love or hate relationship with Rath in the story because Ivy is such a sweet girl. He has every reason to drive her away though because humans tend to be hunters and he’s afraid Ivy is a hunter. He also doesn’t want her around, when the full pride gets together for the mating season. He doesn’t want a bunch of cougar shifter males being around Ivy because it makes them go crazy and start fighting each other.
Rath though does start to show another side of himself with Ivy, especially when he realizes why she is there and how well she fits in at Cougar Creek. Although, Rath is stubborn several times in the story and Ivy tries to reassure him why she’s there.
This is an instant-love story, so readers that enjoy instant-love stories will definitely enjoy this book. Other readers may think it’s too soon, but Rafe and Ivy definitely fit well with each other. I adored them in the story and wish I could have had more of them. The drama in the story went by quickly though and I kind of had an idea on who the bad guy(s) were in the story after Ivy started explaining about her down of the luck trouble she’s been having and why she ended up at Cougar Creek.
I give this book 4.5 stars and have actually already started reading the next book in the series. I’m always excited to read Felicity’s books because, when I’m in a reading funk I know her books can get me out of the funk. Thank goodness for Felicity’s addicting paranormal stories because I definitely have gotten out one of the longest reading funks this year thanks to her.
Great read!
Claimed by her Cougar is the first book in the Cougar Creek Mates series, set in the same world as the Eternal Mates series. By that, I mean it is set in the contemporary world, but with the same ‘bad guys’ being mentioned – Archangel.
Rath has kept his clan safe from Archangel ever since their attack so many years previously. He takes care of any Hunters who show up on his land, and spends his time avoiding most people, preferring to spend his time alone. He looks after the cabins of various clan members who also live elsewhere. His solitude is broken when Ivy shows up on his land, wanting to photograph the black bears. Once she convinces him she is not a hunter, they spend a couple of days together, during which she gets under Rath’s skin in more ways that he possibly imagined.
I found this story to be excellently written, as I would expect from Felicity Heaton. How she manages to tie in a previous organisation, within the contemporary world, whilst introducing a whole new set of characters, I think is superb! There were no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow. The supporting cast of characters were all intriguing, leaving me wanting more in this series, just so I can get their stories. Luckily for me, Storm comes next, but I also want Ember’s story! Yes, I know, I’m greedy!
A great start to the series, and definitely recommended by me. Looking forward to continuing this series.

Great Second Chance Story
I have to say I really loved Rath as a character. Someone who lost so much, but keeps going and who loves his family without equal. I was so happy to see both he and Ivy get there happily ever after. As the series continues, I continue to enjoy Rath as he interacts with his brothers. If you like a steamy, cat shifter romance, this is for you!
I’m ashamed to admit it’s been an age since I’ve picked up a Felicity Heaton book. CBHC reminded me why I first fell in love with her writing to begin with.
Losing your loved ones under any circumstances is bound to leave its mark, especially that of your mate and parents, but to lose them after being targeted by a group hellbent on eradicating ‘your kind’ is a heavy burden to bear indeed. Closed off from the world, Cougar-shifter, Rath is determined to protect not only his pride brethren, but his heart, at any cost.
When a human wanders onto his land, Rath’s hackles are immediately up. Engage protector mode! What is it they say? The best defence is a good offence… but Ivy awakens feelings within Rath he long thought dead. Things are about to get complicated *smirks* You hear that too? bow chicka wow Oh, thank goodness it’s not just me *snorts*
Photographer, Ivy Wentworth, is finally getting her mojo back. Following a tip on where she can see black bears in the wild, she sets off on her mission. Only she gets more than she bargained for in the shape of a tall, dark, and very growly man. To say he isn’t happy that she’s stumbled onto his property is an understatement. The fact Ivy has sworn off men is neither here nor there, for the mere presence of Rath ignites nerve-endings Ivy never even knew she had. What is a gal to do? *whispers* Well, I can think of a few things… *snorts*
Le sigh, shifter books are just amazing, aren’t they? I love the whole heightened senses thing. You know what I mean? The whole ‘smell’ thing *winks* The fated/true mate thing, where even when you’re a Hard-Hearted-Harriet, pulls at your heart-strings – although you’ll point-blank deny all knowledge of such a thing. The whole growly thing, the biting… *shivers* And one word, ladies: STAMINA! Am I TMI-ing yet? *belly laughs*
CBHC was an intense adrenaline ride (oi, that was you this time, not me!), and I can’t wait to return to Cougar Creek for Storm’s story. I have a feeling this series is only going to get better and better.
A great new series!
couldn’t really get into it, seemed flat
A great start to a new series! I loved Rath and Ivy and how their relationship progressed towards their HEA. If you’re looking for an action-packed, drama-filled and sexy read, then grab this one up now! Can’t wait to read about Storm next! Highly Recommended! 4.5 STARS
