This book might have started in a bad place for Brandi, but the ending was worth every minute of her pain. I loved the characters! Each one has their own unique quirks and make them perfect for their place in the pack. They were everything I could hope for in a family and I hope we get to see them each find their HEA eventually. The story was fantastic! I love how the authors started us on the dangerous path right from the beginning and, with each turn of the page, I became more engrossed in the tale. I enjoyed how the authors brought the characters together and the undeniable pull between them. This is a wonderful series starter and perfect collaboration between these two authors. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
I so hope for more of this series!!
Full Disclosure: I’ve enjoyed the New Species series by Laurann Dohner and feel it’s the ONLY 4-5 star series she’s written (at least the first half of the series). I have not read Kele Moon before.
Like most of the non-New Species novels this author writes, it’s entertaining and sexy, but there isn’t much depth or exceptional story or characters.
This particular book was okay. Fun, sexy fluff you will forget about after you read. Nothing to keep you rereading it or remembering after it’s done. So if that’s your thing, you will enjoy it. It’s also a great way to pass time if you love werewolves. But don’t be expecting a wonderful tale with amazing characters that you want to read over and over again, because this isn’t it.
I personally believe that Ms. Dohner put a ton of effort into the New Species books at first to make them so good, but after that success she’s just churning out stories. Some are great ideas and I’m always disappointed they don’t live up to their potential.
This one is more of the same. Fun while it lasts, but not memorable.
Brandi lived the worst nightmare of her life.
Stopping at the gas station for fuel while visiting a friend, Brandi was kidnapped and put into a white van.
Taken into the woods, she found herself standing before large men talking about a hunt where she would be the prey. To make matters worse – thinking she was drugged – she watches the men turn into wolves.
Not understanding what they were talking about, Brandi just knew she would have to fight for her life and ran like never before.
Before she saw herself being killed and her body torn to pieces, another black wolf, much larger than the others, fights and kills them. Then, turning into a man, he takes her to his cottage.
Jason was a guardian, he lived on the edge of the pack’s territory, so he could patrol and protect the northern border from wolves stupid enough to trespass.
He then calls Desmon, one of the alphas, and tells him what happened and wants to find out more.
Brandi finds herself in the middle of packs war.
First, she would have to accept that werewolves are not an urban legend, but they do exist.
That pack, the Nightwind, though small, was strong, led by two alphas, Desmon and Jazz.
As long as they didn’t know which pack wanted war with them, Brandi would be safe in Jason’s company. However, that wouldn’t make her safe… from him.
Although he knew Brandi was his mate – in fact, because of his action, he sped her attraction to him, causing the heat – he feared her reaction to the relationship.
If she didn’t accept him and went back to the human world, Jason could literally die of sadness (exactly what happened to his mother – and he never forgave his human father for it).
While trapped in the cottage, Brandi coexists with these huge wolf men, who are not ashamed to walk naked, tease each other and drink too much.
Upon discovering the enemies, Desmon wanted to use Brandi as bait – which drives Jason crazy – but it was the only way to stop the enemy from kidnapping other women.

5 stars
Laurann Dohner’s New Species series is one of my favorite things since cheesecake was invented. Thus, I had extremely high hopes for this new series. But unfortunately, the magic just wasn’t there for me. To be fair, I started this book with preconceived expectations and Claimed was not able to live up to them. While the story line is different and interesting, and Jason is an adorable Hero, it was not enough to save the book for me. Alas, I shall be skipping the next releases in this series.
