Every so often, there’s a book that comes along that has you yearning for the next installment. You wait patiently (for a year!) and when the second installment comes out, you make a weekend of it. You turn off all technology, you find a comfortable place (and position), you get your favorite snacks and drinks, and you get down to business. The ShadowIslands Saga will be that for you!
Nora is an intelligent young girl who is competitive by nature, but also has powers that she is trying to hide. Nora is badass and I don’t think we have seen the full extent of her potential/capabilities and that makes me excited for the next installment. Frederick has me wanting to know more about him. While he is complexed, he’s also mysterious. That leaves me excited! The world building and character development is absolutely stunning! It’s a futuristic Norse myth, for crying out loud!
This is a book that can easily be read in one sitting because you just need to know what happens next. The first couple of chapters are a bit slow, but not annoyingly so. This will put you in the mind of Hunger Games, The Giver, and Divergent, however it’s done so well that not only does it make you excited to see where this goes next, but you will also want to re-read those stories! I can’t wait for the next installment!
I’m happy
Good storyline absolutely destroyed by (hopefully) typographical errors and poor punctuation. A good editor, or even just proofreader, would do this book wonders.
It didn’t hold my interest.
Unrealistic thinking for girls that age. But just could not finish this book! More for teens.
The first chapter was difficult to wade through. There were too many terms introduced without an explanation. After that the novel was easier to follow.
I enjoy the characters and the story line.
Not a big fan of fantasy, but this held my attention.
The beginning was a poorly written info-dump. Main character was unlikable. Stopped reading when all the other girls were just soooooo jealous of the main character who is ‘not like other girls’. Seriously. I also gagged at how often the hippies, aka, ‘dark people with curly hair’ were called savages. Gross.
the book needed a ghost writer to smooth the thing out. Great plot but was very disjointed and kind of weird having hippies and Vikings clash.
It was a fast moving book. that was easy to read because it kept you entertained.
I read this book in one sitting. The main character is easy to relate to. She has a few annoying attributes, which make her even more authentic. Great ideas!

Waiting for the sequel to be made in electronic form
I really enjoyed this book. Lots of fun and some interesting twists. Highly recommend it.
Mocking Jay meets Asgard with a touch of Warehouse 13, in a well constructed plot. Keeps you engaged in the story, looking forward to the next book in the series.
Not what I expected but in a good way
Definitely NOT a page Turner. I was so disappointed. Kind of boring, a little slow, characters weren’t that interesting nor was the dialog. I loved all the others…City of Bones, City of Ashes etc but this one is nothing like those. I don’t tell people not to waste their time….sorry, but that’s the truth.
I could not put this book down!
The author builds an interesting world with a storyline that could be quite intriguing if the interrelationships between the characters didn’t fall so flat. The book could’ve used a good editor & makes ch better proofreading.
Not great but readable.
