Archaeologist Matthew Connor and his friends Cal and Robyn are finally home after a dangerous retrieval expedition in India. While they succeeded in obtaining the priceless Pandu artifact they sought, it almost cost them their lives. Still, Matthew is ready for the next adventure. Yet when new intel surfaces indicating the possible location of the legendary City of Gold, Matthew is hesitant to embark on the quest.
Not only is the evidence questionable but it means looking for the lost city of Paititi far away from where other explorers have concentrated their efforts. As appealing as making the discovery would be, it’s just too risky. But when Cal’s girlfriend, Sophie, is abducted by Matthew’s old nemesis who is dead-set on acquiring the Pandu statue, Matthew may be forced into action. Saving Sophie’s life means either breaking into the Royal Ontario Museum to steal the relic or offering up something no one in his or her right mind would refuse—the City of Gold.
Now Matthew and his two closest friends have to find a city and a treasure that have been lost for centuries. And they only have seven days to do it. As they race against the clock, they quickly discover that the streets they seek aren’t actually paved with gold, but with blood.
City of Gold is an exciting, action-packed, edge-of-your-seat adventure that’s akin to an Indiana Jones story set in modern times. It’s light on history and heavy on action, suspense, and intrigue. Buy this international bestselling book today and strap yourself in for an action-packed good time!

A little slow
A page turner, enjoyed the story. Will defiantly continue with the series.
Plot was interesting. The writing was so so
well paced, with an interesting premise
Good read
Love treasure hunts with all kind of twists. This does it right from the start and then no let up.
Not very realistic. Gave up after a few chapters and deleted it.
Would love to find more like this!
I love treasure hunting and am very excited to travel to South America to search for the Lost City of Gold with Carolyn Arnold.
Matthew was the reason Cal was the Indiana Jones type, a modern day treasure hunter. An adrenaline junkie and thrill seeker. Danger is part of his game.
Matthew, and his friends, Cal and Robyn…could danger have followed them home?
Sophie has ‘feelings’ and they are not good ones.
Have you heard of the Lost City of Gold? Carolyn Arnold made me curious enough, I had to Google Patiti, Bolivia and El Dorado. Check it out for yourself.
Due to circumstances beyond their control, their journey is thrown together, with less research and planning than the other adventures they had been on.
Danger looms from more than the jungle.
She came from his past and all their lives are on the line.
A cross between Indiana Jones and the Lost World, without the dinosaurs, add a kidnapping, and a lot of action and adventure in the jungle and I find it impossible to go wrong with City of Gold by Carolyn Arnold. I loved the book and I am super excited to have my hands on the next adventure in the series, The Secret of the Last Pharoah.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of City of Gold by Carolyn Arnold.

Delve into the fast pace, deadly world of treasure hunting that will have you gripped from the very start!
Matthew Connor is an archaeologist by day but by night he is Gideon Barnes renowned treasure hunter – only a few people know his true identity and not even his father has any idea about his sons alter ego of Gideon, all he knows is that he can find just about treasure in the world.
The start of this book will pull you in with a fast paced race through the jungle and a heart thumping jump into a waterfall for Gideon(Matthew), Cal and co’ as they dodge bullets to get the treasure home in piece as well as their lives intact. From here we are met with Matthew’s father getting suspicious to the elusive Gideon who never shows up to promote his finds, a kidnapping and the prospect of finding the lost Inca City of Gold.
I loved the Indiana Jones movies and if you are fan you will love this book! It is fast paced, thrilling and will have you on the edge of your seat as you follow Matthew and his team on their search to find the myth of the City Gold in the Bolivian jungle and save Cal’s girlfriend at the same time.
I am looking forward to reading more in the Matthew Connor series, whilst it is slightly different to Arnold’s usual FBI/Police procedural books this is just as thrilling and engaging and she is fast becoming a favourite for this genre for me.
