Love is a mortal sin, and the secrets of the past are deadly. Plunge into the third installment in the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series and “prepare to be hooked” (Entertainment Weekly). To save her mother’s life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters–never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and … against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.
As Clary uncovers more about her family’s past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he’s willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City–whatever the cost?

Holy family secrets batman! Still kicking myself for not starting this series sooner. There are time where I felt like this book was a little predictable, but there were a ton of twists and turns that were not as predictable and kept my interest. I’m totally feeling justified in buying the entire series off of Bookoutlet!
Omg just amazing. I think this was my favorite book out of The Mortal Instruments. I couldn’t read it any faster. I totally recommend this whole series and will no doubt reread it. I love all of the characters and the hidden world they live in and the demons they face, inner and out ;). Luv u Cassie!!
Ok that book just unwrapped so much it honestly felt like the end of a series. I just keep falling all the way through these as soon as I open them up. I don’t even realize I’m finishing the book u til I’m ripped from my fantasy world with its ending. It’s a good think I keep the next book at the ready.
The City of Glass allows readers a glimpse into Alicante, the fabled city of the Shadowhunters that they have been hearing about since book one. The Shadowhunters are gathering, as Valentine prepares to launch an attack against the city. His ultimate goal to eradicate anyone who does not pledge loyalty to him. As war brews on the horizon, Clary desperately tries to find a cure for her mother’s endless sleep. Simon has also found himself in trouble. Accidentally being transported to the city of Idris with the rest of the crew, Simon is wrongly imprisoned by the Shadowhunters. And of course, the tension rises as Clary and Jace fight against their feelings for one another. With so much at stake, there are bound to be sacrifices and losses.
This is a much longer book than the previous two novels. It almost seems like it could have been broken down into two separate books with the way the storyline progresses. But with that being said, Cassandra Clare did a good job of providing entertaining conflicts, and a steady pace with her plot development. Because of its size, readers also have the chance to see larger sections from the cast of characters. Of course, Clary and Jace steal the spotlight. The dynamics between the two are what enamored me to the series, and each book only proves to be more intense.
The series certainly takes a darker turn with this addition. If you’ve read the first two books, you know that the overall tone of The Mortal Instruments is dark, but there are no pulled punches as Valentine cuts his way through Shadowhunters to attain his goal. I prefer to read books with darker themes, and I was just as glued to the pages as I was with my first read through.
This is a great recommendation for fans of the urban fantasy and young adult genres. I would say it is more geared towards the older side of YA with the battle scenes and brewing romance. Adults will enjoy it as well! I’m off to start the next book!
It was entertaining. But cringe and stereotypical or this is the series that started those stereo.
Love living in Cassandra’s world…if only for a little while
I love The Mortal Instruments series (and anything in the Shadowhunter world really), but this is my favorite! City of Glass wraps up the chaos of the first three books and sets up the next three. And so much #clace #malec and #sizzy.
Great read with a perfect ending! I loved all the action and suspense. The characters were amazing and super entertaining!
Love this author
Cassandra Claire has a way with words that will draw you into the book. Demon hunters, elves, warlocks, vampires, etc. Interesting read that you will loose sleep over.
This is my favorite book so far in the series!
Warning…this is not a standalone. If you haven’t read the first 2 books in the series, stop and go start them now!
Now back to this awesome book. So much happened in it I don’t know where to start. So many secrets and shockers that will have fans of series on the edge of their seats the whole time. Clary and Jace fans are going to love this book. It had me going through so many emotions. I was listening every chance I had. I am not going to give any spoilers but just know the battle readers have been gearing up for is epic and totally goes a way you won’t see coming. Get read for drama, action, suspense, shockers, heartbreak, inspiring moments, romance, and so much more. I can’t wait to see what else the shadow hunter world has in store in this series!
I love this series. I really enjoy the way Cassandra Clare writes.
Excellent series! I have read these books twice now and found things I missed the first time. Very well written, original and fantastic fun!
My favorite book in the series so far!
This book had the most amazing, unpredictable events!
Better than the other two, but still annoying. Simon deserves better.
Clary travels to the City of Glass without permission from the Clave to save her mother’s life and finds that things aren’t quite as she hoped. First, she could be put to death for entering the city without permission and second, Jace doesn’t want her there. Clary makes friends with a Shadowhunter named Sebastian who seems familiar to her for some reason. As Valentine gets closer to destroying all Shadowhunters forever, Clary must convince the Clave that her powers can help the fight if Downworlders and Shadowhunters fight together.
I enjoyed this installment in the Shadowhunters series and although Clary still made some choices without thinking first, I think she’s getting better. There are a few surprises within the book as well. Most I saw coming, but not until just before the reveal. I really liked how the story flowed and how it concluded, if you want to call it that. This definitely could have been a trilogy, but there is still a missing link…
This is a very good series,I have read allShe is a wonderful writer!
Cassandra Clare is an amazing mastermind. The Mortal Instruments are a work of art. I love Clace and Malec their couple chemistry is amazing. This world is full of werewolf’s, wore-locks, Seelie, vampires, and Mundanes. The series gets better as you go the Shadow world of the shadow-hunters is a mystical world full of adventure that has yet to disappoint.
* Major Spoilers ahead*
OMG this book was so awesome. So many things happened in this book. It was like an explosion of events. Jace and Clary my God they suffer so much. I felt so bad for their struggles. Loving each other, thinking they’re brother and sister and their love is wrong. But the part where they sleep laying next to each other holding hands all night. Swoon!
Although I will say it was kind gross how they made out while still thinking they were siblings. Gave me Joe Dirt flashbacks.
I’m glad we readers finally got to see who Clary’s real brother was. Sebastian was as evil as his father. The things he did in this book made me sick. The way he came onto Clary and kissed her knowing he was really her brother sick! Trying to kill Jace and beating Izzy with a whip. Killing sweet little Max. I mean who kills a child a pos that’s who!
Poor Clary couldn’t catch a break. Walking around thinking you’re in love with your brother then finding out that your real brother did kiss you eww. I was so glad that when Jocelyn woke up and I was glad that Clary gave it to her good for all the lies she told Clary. It was nice to hear Jocelyn explain things and set the record straight. I also loved that her and Luke finally get to be together too. My heart was so happy when Alec stepped up and claimed Magnus by kissing him in front of everyone including his parents. That kiss was so hot!
Twice this book had me flipping out over Jace. That last time knowing Valentine killed him right in front of Clary. OMG flipped out! Thank God the angel brought him back. And haha Paranormal Hitler aka Vatlentine got his! Simon was cute in this book. All his vampire yumminess getting him two girls that want him. I love how Simon has really grown since the first book. The end OMG the end was so sweet. Love this book can’t wait to start the next one!
