One of a great collection of stories from a talented author. SULLIVAN RULES!!
Hey Hollywood: here is your next TV series!!! You be foolish to pass this up.
Mysterious mission, political power, ex, and unknown child are the keys to this book. If this catches your eye then you will love this book. If it sparks a niggle because out of your usual genre, then go for it. I did.
I don’t care what type of book you call this (I looked it up too). It is wonderful and enjoyable. Other than the references to hovercrafts, other worlds, and the like, I would not know that this book takes place in the future. It reads like something that could be (or is happening) today.
This book can be read on its own and still follow the story. I did it. There are references to previous happenings from other books obviously.
I really need to go back and red the previous books. I am confused about the definition of clone in this world. I also want to understand the dynamic between Sully, Sarah, and Father Nathan.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
Inspector Thomas Sullivan (Sully) is offered a case on another world that pays beyond anything he has ever imagined. The catch, he will be working for someone whom he’d rather never hear from again. Not only that but he receives news that will shock his very core. His assistant, Sarah will be thrown into a major emotional conflict like none she has ever experienced. Will Sully stay or walk away?
Sivils’ sixth novel in the Inspector Thomas Sullivan Thriller series, City of Broken Lights: Hardboiled Noir From The Future is an emotional rollercoaster for both the characters and the reader. Never has Sully been so torn. Can he keep his professional demeanor intact and not let the realities of the case undermine his abilities?
Time is of the essence and Sully must decide what to do. Politics is never been dirtier than when lives are at stake. This gut-wrenching book will leave you exhausted but satisfied.
5 out of 5 stars.
This is a very well written noir detective series that is also great SciFi! One of the things I have enjoyed the most is the development of a clone character. It explores the possibilities of what could happen with human cloning. Would clones have rights? How varied would personalities be depending on their environment? The range could well go from near normal human, whatever that may be, to super-human! Would psychosis develop just from being a clone, and therefore different from other humans. All great questions explored during kick-ass action!
Sully, Sarah and Father Nathan are all going to Athens II. For Sully and Sarah the draw is a case that should prove to be very lucrative. Father Nathan just wants a short vacation, and to talk with other clerics about their programs to help the indigent.
The case details are a shock to Sully when he finds his employer is a love from his long ago past. She wants Sully to find her kidnapped daughter, Since he isn’t part of the local police force, even though he has jurisdiction wherever he goes, she is hoping the kidnappers won’t think her going against their no police demand.
What this client wants no one to find out is that her daughter is a clone. Sarah, a clone herself and Sully’s partner, reacts badly to the situation. Working with a brooding Sarah is never fun. Since the abductee worked as a volunteer at a local church helping the needy, Father Nathan is drawn into the case as well.
The planet is rife with corruption and primed for a labor dispute. Will Sully be able to find the missing girl in an atmosphere of such distrust? How Will Sarah react meeting another clone if they succeed?
I was gifted a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
