On New Year’s Day, a dog finds a bone in the Hollywood Hills–and unearths a murder committed more than twenty years earlier. It’s a cold case, but for Detective Harry Bosch, it stirs up memories of his childhood as an orphan. He can’t let it go. As the investigation takes Bosch deeper into the past, a beautiful rookie cop brings him alive in the present. No official warning can break them … apart–or prepare Bosch for the explosions when the case takes a few hard turns. Suddenly all of L.A. is in an uproar, and Bosch, fighting to keep control, is driven to the brink of an unimaginable decision.

I enjoyed the read. A lot of twists and turns right up to the end. As Bosch’s boss points out, Bosch “is a shit magnet.” Still a great tale.
I like all Connelly books
Harry Bosch doesn’t take the call about a human bone serious at first, but this time it turns out that a bone from a human skeleton has been found in a Hollywood neighborhood. The skeleton is that of an abused pre-teen boy, and he’s been buried for 20 years. Can Bosch figure out who he was and bring the killer to justice?
I was looking forward …
One of the better ones in this series. I love how the author takes mundane sentences or mentions and makes them pertinent to the ending. I did pick up on Trent’s comment in the interview and wondered about the use of that word.
Definitely does not end on a cliffhanger, in fact it has a very final note to it. I appreciate that. Yet I know that …
One of the best Bosch books, and the Bosch series is the gold standard for detective novels.
All his books are good
This is the best researched writer in the business. You will not catch any obvious wrongs in this book. I just get crazy when I read in a novel a fact or a situation that i know is wrong or impossible. You get the action here, but also a true recreation of police work and culture.
This is one of the Bosch series, and has all the twists and turns we expect with Michael Connelly.
I will read anything that Michael Connelly writes
Just finished reading this one. Had seen the show on Amazon, they were some differences. Good story, surprise ending, looking forward to the next one to see what Harry gets into.
Amazing book, surprising ending! This is the eighth Harry Bosch novel but the first one I read in the series. Since I read this book, I’ve read several in the series but not in order.
Michael Connelly certainly delivers in the Harry Bosch series. All of these stories are spell-binding page-turners. Don’t start one if you don’t have time to finish it, or you won’t get any work done.
Harry Bosch is the kind of character you can root for and follow down any path.
All of this author’s books rate at the highest level. Read them all.
Harry never disappoints!
I have never read a bad story from this author. He always leaves you wanting to read more of his stuff.
I’ve read every Bosch book and would recommend any one of them.
I have read every Harry Bosch novel and am always waiting for the next one to come out.
A true mystery right up to the very end – but very dark. Cliffhanger ending.
Michael Connelly at his best
All of Connelly’s Bosh books are enjoyable and this is no exception. It is no wonder that a successful series was spun off these books. If you’re a Bosch fan, or just starting out, you’ll enjoy this book. Basically all the books can stand alone, though obviously if you start the series at the beginning you’ll get even more out of it.
