When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder — much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing — not even a … smear of blood — to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know…
Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare’s ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

I read this book after seeing the awful movie. The book is good. A teen novel with supernatural creatures and powers with a few plot twists.
Angst ridden, mean spiteful characters
Great first book in a wonderful series. The characters were likeable and believable. The story captured my interest from the very beginning.
One of the first books in awhile that I haven’t been able to put down. My husband didn’t like it as much as I did. There’s a little bit of Harry Potter, some Twilight, echoes of Percy Jackson, but not too much. It’s got its own depth and dimension, its very own claim to a unique fantasy world. Some things I predicted, some things I never saw …
One of my most favorite book series
Love the entire series!
This was a bit confusing for me, as I couldn’t really picture the world. Also, I had trouble relating to the characters and subsequently didn’t care what happened to them. I’m sure a fantasy fan of the author’s would enjoy it though.
I love Boob Bub. Another book I read and loved. I read the whole series!!
When Clary Fray witnesses three tattoo-covered teenagers murder another teen, she is unable to prove the crime because the victim disappears right in front of her eyes, and no one else can see the killers. Clary thought she was just a normal kid, but normal kids don’t see invisible people, and normal kids’ mothers don’t suddenly disappear, …
10/5!!!!! One of my favourites EVER
This book keeps you on edge until the end
Having read the entire series, I can say it was rewarding and consistent in the battle of good vs. evil. You want to spend more time in this mythic world.
Couldn’t put it down.
This is my absolute favorite series, I actually love all of Ms. Clare’s work. She is an amazing writer and brings these characters to life in a beautiful way.
Though I am way outside of the average age of a YA reader … It was great!
Read it lightening fast because it was SO good! The world is built masterfully & the characters jump of the page.
I tore through this book & then was on to the next!
I loved this book
Good start to hopefully a great series!!!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Start to finish, I was intrigued by the characters. I think that had I not read the back of the second book before finishing this one, I would have been very surprised with the twist. As I did read ahead, I was kind of weirded out by where the story was going. But I got past that and still enjoyed the book. I am …
I love all the books in this series
Great series
