When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder — much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing — not even a … smear of blood — to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know…
Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare’s ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

I enjoyed this book and will continue the series. I wasnt sure if I was going to like it at first because it seemed like another “there really are angels, demons, fairies, and half-bloods” book. It had a different twist on it though (although the main character was pretty naive at times).
There is a few bad words (no f-words), but crude comments, …
I can’t stress how much I love this book (and the whole series). I have read them many times and will probably read them again and again in the years to come.
I remember receiving a proof copy many years ago now and being blown away by it. One of my all-time favourite reads.
She is one of my favorite authors. I enjoyed the prequel series a bit more. Clary came off a bit annoying for me
I was captivated by the great detail of the world with demons, werewolfs, and warlocks living with mundane (normal non-magical humans). Claire finds herself thrust into realizing there is more going on in the world. It was a fast read for me with other books in the series, prequels, and postquels.
Okay so the other day I was watching the movie The Mortal Instruments City of Bones. That got me wanting to read the books to see what happens next, but I only owned the first two books. Two days later I was at Goodwill looking for books and they had the other 4 books for 1.00 each and I thought ahh it was meant to be lol! I really liked this …
Awesome series, highly recommend! Love the New York modern-day setting, and all the characters – Shadowhunters, demons, warlocks, werewolves, faeries, vampires, etc. The romantic aspects of the book are all interesting and don’t detract from the plot. This series is very hard to put down and will have you hooked from start to finish!
This was my first audiobook unless you want to count the ones we read in grade school where it dinged and you had to turn the page. After watching the film version of City of Bones with my oldest child, I decided I’d try this in audio form after hearing great things about it. This was also a first for me to read reviews prior. I tried to focus …
I love the intricacies of the histories, the weaponry and the relationships.
Great series! Way better than the movie.
Just such a fun series
This was very compelling book. Loved the plot from beginning to end. I felt like I was in the book with the characters.
This book series is so entertaining! I ended the first book and couldn’t wait to start the next book to see what is going on in the lives of the characters. This series is a must read.
I really enjoyed this series by Cassandra Clare. It was very intriguing and thought provoking. I loved the shadow hunters, their world and everything in this book and the whole series.
I really like this series. clean, some humor, never knew what was going to happen next.
Enjoyed the trilogy
This book is one that I have read hundreds of times. It was such a page-turner and, if you’re sarcastic, has lots of funny, witty comebacks. Personally, my favorite character was Jace but you can decide. If you read this one you won’t be able to stop yourself from reading the rest of the series plus the prequel series and after series. Totally …
I absolutely love this series. 10/10 recommend!
Entertains but not enough to make read on in the series.
This was the first series that hooked me into reading! I have always loved re-reading The Immortal Instrument installments! But was terriblydisappointedd with the movie and tv series.. Loved all of Cassandra Claire’s novels, and will continue to do so!
