City Boy is a first time gay, fish out of water, May/December love story with a happy ending. It features snarky siblings, a dirty-talking farmer, lots of food, and big choices. (No poultry was harmed in the making of this book.)When a blown tire leads directly to mind-blowing sex with a white knight named Dakota, pro-hockey player Bryce Lowery discovers he is most definitely gay. Being with … definitely gay.
Being with Dakota opens up a whole new world and Bryce can’t imagine life without him. But Dakota refuses to be Bryce’s dirty little secret. If he wants to keep his new love, he’s either going to have to come out publicly or retire and walk away from a contract worth millions of dollars.
Follow the money or follow his heart? Either way, he loses.

This was a fantastic, romantic, sensual read. Loved it from opening to ending
Really enjoyed the big hearted nature of the main characters. Somewhat hard to believe the a national sports figure could be so clueless about sex and love. Still, it was a fun romp with romance conquering all. Especially loved the mother and girlfriend characters.
This is a sweet story about finally figuring out who you are and what you want out of life. Dakota has had the rug pulled out of his life more than once. And while he is capable he having someone taking care of him isn’t all bad either. It’s funny to see how clueless Bryce really is. I love how they both work together to come out better and stronger together.
It has hockey!
I received an ARC for ‘City Boy’ from the author. This is the first book in a 3 book series. I love series, romances and just a touch of angst, so when all of it is set in Colorado I’m especially happy.
Dakota has had a rough beginning in life; his parents didn’t act like parents should, he lost his ‘real’ parents and now the man he regarded as his grandfather is dead. We won’t even talk about the ‘less than perfect’ Kyle! The mind games he played are beyond despicable… And the fate of the orchard could be in jeopardy.
Anyway…enter Bryce, a professional hockey player who has a few issues of his own…one of which is deciding whether or not to retire. It’s not an easy decision because he has a lot of people depending on him.
So when these two men meet, on the side of a mountain, there are bound to be sparks. And, I’m so happy to report, there are! The other man is everything each of them either wanted or needed, but what can they do about it?
We meet family members that make you smile, friends that you want to hug, and an array of animals you want to meet. Throw in a celebration and everything becomes even more chaotic than normal.
You’ll totally enjoy your time with this group and I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series. I can’t wait to see if one little loose thread is tied up beautifully.
So far, this has been my favorite gay themed romance novel. The only thing I would like is for some to be written without explicit sex scenes – I just don’t think that it is need for ALL of the gay-themed romances (which has been my experience, so far). I loved the family – families really – they were very entertaining.
I appreciated that both men had good support systems, and people who loved them for who they are. Even though they both had trauma in their pasts, I liked that their stories showed how they had grown and were willing to take risks. I particularly appreciated the scene in the lawyer’s office! It would have been easy to break them apart at that point, and the author chose the exact opposite path.
Outside my normal reading, but I felt the emotions. Love scenes are meaningless without the angst, the anticipation, the fear…
This series is So Outrageously good!
Amy’s characters are incredibly well written – they are good guys. And like any good friends, I love hanging out with them (reading their stories )
Men dealing with being gay in the world of professional hockey. I really love that her characters are “regular guys” Sometimes funny as hell, some times maddening…..but, good guys I wAnna hang out with.
Decent story but figures out they are gay at 34?
I liked watching the person grow as the relationship developed. creative conflicts led to creative resolutions. The expansion of what family was added to the bonding between both sides.
Good story. Not just all sex!
A nice, simple gay romance.Easy read to pass an afternoon.
This is how you can talk when a writer is good. First you have Bryce the hockey jock that blushes and had no clue he was gay. Then you have Dakota who is the total guy package. When these two get together it’s sexy and starts them on their way to a happily ever after. I was given the privilege and opportunity to receive an advanced reader copy and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review. I can’t wait for the next book. A.E. Wasp has such a way of creating characters that you fall in love with.
This is my review of the audiobook.
A beautiful whirlwind romance. Not only do you get Bryce and Dakota but you also get their family and friends. Great characters that truly made this a complex world with personalities you can actually feel. Then add to that the narrator did an amazing job. Intensely passionate and full of emotions. I loved Lori’s spitfire nature and wanted one of Rainbow’s hugs. I also want to take classes from Julie on organizing. I loved reading the book but listening to it magnified it to a much higher level. I can’t think of a better experience than reading A. E. Wasp’s work followed by listening to Michael Pauley narrate it. A winning combination.
Loved this book! The characters were strong yet broken. Through the trials they became unbreakable.
