Cinere is not a standalone. It’s advised to read Inferno before reading this novella.I’ve always thought of myself as a damn good father. The first three shouldn’t define what you think about me. It’s not my fault that they were fuck ups; I did my best with what I was given and I almost got it right. I think I’ve learned enough from those mistakes to know that I’ll do better this time. After all, … I’ll do better this time. After all, fate has decided to bestow a beautiful baby girl on me, and she doesn’t know what the others went through.
I’ve been doing alright with her so far. She loves me the same way she loves picking wildflowers out in the yard, but she doesn’t understand that sometimes, innocent love just isn’t enough.
Especially not for a man like me.
I don’t tend to fail much in what I do, and I don’t see the last few years as failing. I see it as learning from my missteps and becoming a better man because of it. Times are getting harder on me without someone special to warm my bed at night.
I’ve got another chance to do it right, and this time, I’ll be the man that my little girl deserves.

Well my my my…. let’s take a trip back to Pater’s house. As you know (if you have read Inferno) that this is bad news!!! Seriously no one wants to be at Pater’s house. Especially if your his kids… and this picks up a few years after Inferno. And Pater has a new recruit.
I’ve never been so violently mad and yet so ridiculously obsessed with what’s going to happen next. This is not a book for the faint of heart. If you have “triggers” this is probably not the book for you. This was definitely one of the ones I didn’t want to end the way it did! I definitely tossed my kindle around
The depravity of Pater knows no bounds. Glimpsing inside this man’s head, hearing how he justifies his actions leaves a mark on the soul.
You MUST read Inferno first, Cinere opens roughly 2 years after the epilogue. I wouldn’t call this story darker (or as dark) as Inferno but the events that transpire will make you squirm.
Pater is horny and believes Darby is too young (the girl is five for Pete’s sake!) so he begrudgingly brings Jocelyn out of the oubliette. Things don’t go as he dictates because Jocelyn is a strong willed fighter, I mean can you blame the poor girl? As you can expect this anger’s Pater.
Eventually he can’t take Joce’s insolence and banishes her back to the oubliette. But not before we are enlightened with Pater’s method’s for grooming his future wives and the lengths he will go to sate his desires.
This isn’t a book for the weak hearted. If you made it past the first book and have read Yolanda Olson books before you know how it goes. Enter Pater’s world and mind your manners.
This book is a follow up to Inferno and it gets worse. Jocelyn we find out did have a baby but has been in the hole since she was born and this story is about her one day out of the hole. Pater is a sick mental case. Now on to Sparks. Enjoy.
Wow! I didn’t think I could hate Pater any more than I did when I read Inferno… I was wrong. But you love to hate him, it’s a fact. I hope we get another installment!! hint hint Yolanda!! 😉
So as if Inferno torture was not enough, I had to go read Cinere too!!! WTF is wrong with me
This one goes even further in subhuman behaviours. We get to hear Luke aka Pater’s POV. Why was he so messed up, what did he do prior to torturing Joeclyn and now he has a daughter- Darby !
**Where the hell are child services when you need them !**
“How does a farmer always know their crops will spring from the ground? How does a gardener know that once a seed is planted, it’ll eventually bloom? I made you, Jocelyn. You’re a part of me, and I can feel you as deeply as you did with Eloy and Vaughn. It was never a trick, kiddo. Just an instinct, and you fucking fall for it every time,”
Anyhow, she’s a cherubic angel, he’s a single father cause Joeclyn is incapacitated or underground. He in his infinite generosity brings her home to spend time together as a family and the finale is the cruelest I’ve ever read . Like seriously the dreadful turn where she stops the story I actually threw my kindle to the wall.
He’s still unapologetic, sadistic asshole whose thirst for blood and *sick* fetish isn’t sated.
The way I choose to live my life with my family makes perfect sense to me—even if no one else would understand it.
Ok I can’t go on any further.
Just read at your own risk !!!!
holy crap… HOLY CRAP
so, before getting started, you need to read Yolanda Olson’s Inferno before reading this book and let me tell you, its way worth it. caution to the wind, its a story about a father and his family but in the most twisted crazy horrible tale so if whatever popped up in your imagination just now sickens you, well I suggest you read it anyways haha I jest!
this story is unbelievably original with so many twists and turns that I couldn’t even predict anything. i was so glued to the pages until the ending just smacked me in the face. the only happy endings that happen with this author is for the other characters that are always defeated in every other story book.
4.5 Stars
In the series timeline, five years have passed since Inferno and Pater is committed to the newest addition to his family. Narrated from Pater’s POV, the level of his deeply ingrained depravity is evident as the cycle continues.
Cinere is a chilling story crossing all lines of morality. Getting a bit more of how Pater’s mind functions was both horrifying and shocking. With the ending, I can only speculate (and hope) as to what will occur in the next book.
I shouldn’t be shocked because Pater is Pater. He has his own set of rules when it comes to life especially when it comes to family. I wonder if this is the actual end… Will there be more? The ending had me saying hell no.
Why, oh why can’t I stop reading….. because this story as crazy, dark, taboo and f*@Ked up as it is, has me so immersed, intrigued and invested in the outcome that I just can’t STOP!!! This is one story that no matter what you do you’ll still be thinking about it longer after reading!
***Before you read Cinere you have to first read Inferno, so if you haven’t already read Inferno do it now.***
Just when you thought it was bad it gets worse, because Daddy is back!! Pater is back to tell his story, in his words. If you are expecting rainbows and unicorns and happily ever after then you are sorely mistaken. This is a Yolanda Olson book people!! I never thought I could hate a character this much, but Pater is the ultimate evil. He is the devil’s more evil twin. This book just proves the brilliance that is Yolanda Olson, that she can create a character so vile and evil yet still draws readers to his story again and again. Cinere is a blood chilling, stomach churning, 5 star read.
Just when you think Pater couldn’t possibly get any sicker or more demented… He’s back! Brilliantly-disturbing and unfathomably-maniacal!
This is one of those stories that you don’t want to read, and yet you can’t turn away. If you haven’t read Inferno, grab that one first. This book will make little to no sense if you read it alone. If you have read Inferno, you’re probably thinking the same thing I was:
I don’t know if I can read more about this family.
And I almost couldn’t. But once I started, I had to know how it ended. And I tore through it. You don’t want to watch, and you don’t want to see it, but there’s something about how this story is written where you just have to know; you have to follow it all the way to the end.
And that ending?? Hold on to your hats, because you won’t believe what’s waiting at the end!
Cinere is a novella written for all the NEED TO KNOW what happened NEXT Inferno fans!!
Cinere is the book that gives us the answers to what happened next but also leaves us with even more questions and just wanting more and more of Pater, Jocelyn and Darby’s story.
It is a messed up thrill ride and one not to miss.
I counted the days down until release!! Inferno is one of my absolute favorite books so I was thrilled to have a novella that delved back into the dark crazy world that is Pater!!
A MUST READ!!!
Texas Hugs and Happy Reading!
My reactions while reading Cinere
*gasp*
*cringe*
*shudder*
*gag*
“WTF is wrong with this author!”
” No! No! No! ”
“OMG that was so good! I need more!!”
Cinere: an inferno novella.
I was a little afraid to read cinere since “daddy” scares me. But holy blazing hell fire. I don’t know how Yolanda did it again. She managed to suck me into this story and I could not look away and my emotions were hating me! Cinere picks up about where inferno left off and you are brought back to the family. Can you survive? I barely did. The book is a novella, but in no way does it fell like one.
5 flammes from me
If you have read Inferno, you will have wondered what happened after. Would Pater ever let Jocelyn go and what happened to their daughter? This short story answers some of those questions.
Pater gets a do over with Darby, but Jocelyn is never far from his mind.
Pater’s mind is a insane wonderous thing full of contradiction about his feelings and how he wants Jocelyn and Darby to act. He wants spirit and spunk, but expects instant obedience. It is a truly scary thing because he thinks he is normal and has no regrets about anything.
By the end of story all I wanted to do is toss him in the hole, poor a bucket of snakes on top of him and welt the grate shut.
If you haven’t read Inferno yet then put Cinere down and grab Inferno first.
*I recommend if you have any triggers or can not read books that contain sexual, physical, and emotional abuse please do not read this book.
Once again I am impressed with Yolanda Olson’s writing. Even though this is a novella she knows how to make you feel as if you read a full novel. Cinere had me going through each emotion hard. Yolanda is definitely a talented writer and it seems no matter what she writes it will drag you to places you never imagined you would go to.
Cinere begins a few years after the ending of Inferno but right after the epilogue. We see Pater with his little girl Darby. This is from Paters POV and you get to figure his ways in his sick and disgusting mind.
I honestly didn’t know if I was going to read this Cinere since I just finished reading Inferno and it was so fresh in my mind that I am still very affected and upset by Pater but I wanted so much to know if Pater was going to be on the receiving end of a revenge ending hopefully like the one I had in store in my own mind.
I can’t wait to see what’s next!
