Cinder by Marissa Meyer is by far the best page turner science fiction novel I have had the pleasure to read.
this book was unpredictable and amazingly entertaining. the author did an amazing job of turning the old fairytale of Cinderella into something that leaves you captivated and turning pages only until you’re only done. I spent a full night reading it!! but the end had me devastated. you don’t end a book like that
A fun take on a classic, Cinder is true to its inspiration and original all in one. I’ve liked Marissa Meyer since her time on FF.net, so it was exciting to watch her grow into the author she is today.
A sensational sci-fi retelling of Cinderella that fairy tale lovers will enjoy.
I had read it two times and I almost fall in love with the charactors
Reading adventures await with the 1st book of the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. Cinder puts a wrench in the hand of the erst-while glass-slipper princess and turns her into a universe-saving cyborg. Pulling from the original and throwing it into a dystopian sci-fantasy realm, Meyer crafts a fantastic retelling of the classic Cinderella fable. More that that, Meyer creates an entire world where our classic fairy tale heroines are all involved in a plot to protect the Earth from a cruel Queen (would-be Empress) of the Moon. The characters are strong, intelligent, and motivated toward saving themselves, their families and loved ones in true heroic fashion.
Sorry Mario, this Princess can save herself!
Cinder, Scarlet, Cress and Winter are such clever takes on our well known fairy tales. Cinderella is a freaking cyborg saving the prince! Scarlet is a kick ass Red Riding Hood who is more than a match for the wolf. And Cress is more than just a damsal in distress. The futuristic setting, the awesome narration in audiobook form, and the endearing characters make this a series I am always happy to fall back into.
Cinder is the first book of the Lunar Chronicles, which is one of my all-time favorite series. They are fun, romantic, exciting, and clean! Great twists on known fairy tales. I couldn’t put these books down.
Cinder itself is pretty much just an introduction to the plot and a few of the main characters, but it kept my attention from the beginning. As is typical with book series, the action picked up throughout the books are more characters were known and the plot unfolded, but this book was still entertaining. It was a quick read that I would recommend to anyone and everyone!
Great twist on an old tale! The author takes a different look at how the princess and her prince might interact in a future world filled with cyborgs, a pandemic, and aliens. This book kept me hooked and there are several others in the series I can’t wait to read.
Let me start off by saying I’m not big on Sci-FY stories, but this book right here did it for me. I love this take on Cinderella and I can’t believe I put this book off for so long. The storyline is easy to follow and has great world building. The characters are also easy to relate to even if the heroine is a cyborg. I can’t wait to dive into book two and see what happens next.
Switch out your glass slippers for mechanical cyborg feet in this imaginative retelling of Cinderella!
Rescued from a horrible accident, Cinder was forced to become a cyborg. And despite the advances in technology, people still discriminate against cyborgs. Cinder is left to fend for herself in a world where most look down on her. Her stepmother doesn’t hesitate to let Cinder know she is not wanted in the family. She is a stain on their reputation for what she is and is blamed for the death of her stepfather. Cinder spends most of her days in the market working as a mechanic and earns her keep by fixing whatever she can. Until the day the prince appears at her shop, asking her to fix his robot. Cinder is left speechless, and without a choice, agrees. Cinder’s life is about to become a messy web of politics and royal agendas.
Cinder is a young girl many can connect with, struggling to find her place and earn her independence as she comes of age. She battles with awkward moments and understanding the brand-new feelings of attraction. She also makes poor choices because she doesn’t know any better and learns from each experience. It was refreshing to read a young adult book that was appropriate. For all the hinted romance, it never goes into the adult realm like so many do these days.
Your heart goes out to Cinder who feels displaced and fearful of people knowing she is a cyborg. The world-building was so well done to describe a society that cannot accept people who are not fully human. The feeling of being on the outside influences all of her actions and Cinder stayed true to her character throughout the entire novel. Even when it was frustrating at times, you understood why she acted as she did.
I highly recommend Cinder and cannot wait to read the next book in The Lunar Chronicles!
Cinderella with a twist. I will admit it was a little hard for me to wrap my head around Cinderella being a cyborg, but after that it was great.

I can’t tell you how much I loved this book. I just read non stop till I finished this entire series.
Just going to say that I was not a fan of this book, it was a struggle to read. I DNF this one.
Linh Cinder was adopted by her father who has perished, but her stepmother and two step sisters who typically treat her with disdain. Cinder has a booth at the market where she repairs bots, droids, anything mechanical. but when another fall ill at the market with the plague, her life pivots again. She finds herself being sought out by Prince Kai who needs his android repaired and after seeking all avenues he asks Cinder for help. There is banter and Cinder finds herself enjoying Kai’s company but could he really be interested in her? She is a cyborg and after her sister falls ill she begins to unravel secrets about her past that could destroy everything she knows. With a ball on the horizon and a war pending with the Queen Levana who puts on an air of disdain to everyone she meets but there is so much more to the Queen then anyone could imagine.
This was wonderful. I had put off reading this one because I wanted to savor the story and this exceeded all expectations I had. Cinder is a wonderfully unique character and I wanted more. I thought the way this author wrote this story was breathtaking. You can visualize every moment of this book and I so hope this becomes a series or movie. Exceptional.
I’ve heard so many good things regarding this book and series that I knew I needed to give it a try. The world building and characters were well-written and the story definitely continued to capture my interest as it progressed. The end is a cliffhanger, but the kind that makes me excited to dive right into the next book. I look forward to reading more and discovering the twists and turns up ahead.
4.5 stars for this fun YA Dystopian/Fantasy novel.
I also listened to the audiobook version and must comment that I was super impressed with the narrator, one of the best I’ve heard.
4.5 stars for this sci-fi fairytale retelling. I enjoyed the uniqueness of the story – the author has quite the imagination! The plot was predictable in a few places and the story does not have a settled ending – it is quite the cliffhanger – but still an enjoyable read that pulled me in. I will definitely be finishing the rest of the series!
I didn’t know what to expect when it came to this book. I was intrigued by the synopsis, but also because it was a Cinderella retelling. Also, is there any need to talk about the tag line: ‘This is not the fairy tale you remember. But it’s the one you won’t forget.’? I finished it fast, and it wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be.
When the book started, I was a bit confused because the first few pages talked about mechanics, but as soon as I dove deeper into the book, I began to enjoy it. The writing style was so simple, and I swear, it can be so easily read by a 12-year-old. It also made an astonishing base for the audiobook, which I very much enjoyed (I switched between the audiobook and the paperback quite often). The actions were easy to follow, and it was easy to keep up with the characters.
That brings me to how amazingly written all the characters were. Cinder was so sarcastic, and even if she faced so many difficulties for being who she was, she still managed to keep her head up and hope. Iko was the best side-kick I have ever come across in a loooong time. She was so sweet, and I got attached to her so easily. Even if he was the prince, Kai hadn’t had a bad attitude. He was caring, and although he faced so many pressures because of his father’s death, he didn’t take his frustration out on other people. Peony had a huge impact, as the plot couldn’t take place without her. Even so, I wish we leant more about her background. Now Adri, she played the hateful step-mom role in such a lovely way, but I still think we will see a better side of her in the upcoming books.
I also have a few words to say about Kai and Cinder’s relationship. Even if you could see from afar that both were attracted to each other, they haven’t got past the crush phase. I liked that, but I also hope we can see more of them. More romance if you know what I mean :))
At first, I was going to give this book 4.3 stars, but the plot twist at the end sold me. I felt as if something was coming, but oh dear, I have never expected it to go this far.
Great story. I couldn’t put it down. Totally worth the time!
Very interesting take on the classic Cinderella story
