How far would you go to protect your own?
On a warm May evening in the spring of 1979, the people of Heartsridge, Massachusetts, are living the American dream. Families are gathered for barbecues. Kids are playing in front yards. Gardens are being kept.
Meanwhile, Kara Price stumbles home through the woods, raped and beaten, her life shattered by a wicked act of violence, perpetrated by one of the town’s most beloved and public figures.
Surrounding Kara is a cast of compelling and nefarious characters—a violent-tempered mayor who can do no wrong in the eyes of the town, a sheriff bound by the rules and plagued by a guilty conscience, a father bent on revenge, a serial killer in the midst of an identity crisis.
And at the center of it all there’s Kara, who just wants to move on with her life and forget everything that happened to her. But how can she do that when everyone thinks she is a liar who is only out for attention?
With plot and emotion braided together by a careful hand, this haunted group of people all acting on behalf of their own interests begs the question: How far would you go to protect your own?

Four & a half to five for this one. The book has a brutal opening few chapters which initially turned me off, but I’m glad I stuck with it. We begin with the rape of a 15 year old girl in a very small town where everyone knows everyone and gossip travels fast. She reluctantly accuses the mayor of the town of being the rapist, her parent report it …
Moved slowly. I wanted the author to stop writing and move on. I wasn’t reading every day because I couldn’t bring myself to pick it up. Even after the climax the book went on and on.
Very difficult crimes to read about……killing strangers, just because and destroying an innocent girl because you can. I was hoping for a satisfying ending. You’ll have to read it and see for yourself.
Very emotional read. Teenage girl stumbles out of the woods beaten and raped. She can’t reveal who did it because she wouldn’t be believed and the man would be protected. Her loving family is torn apart and her life is ruined. Surprise ending I didn’t see coming.
Really enjoyed this book. Couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.
This was an excellent book with great characters and a very good story
This book sucked me in start to finish. Having read Gilchrist earlier this year and loving that one, I do believe I am now a huge Christian Galacar fan!
Take one part corrupt mayor, one part serial killer, one part reluctant sheriff, and mix with a small town erupting with rumor as swarms of cicadas emerge from a 17-year sleep. It all adds up to intrigue and a compelling read in Cicada Spring. Galacar excels in setting the stage and getting into his character’s heads without needless overwriting. …
Once started reading couldn’t put down.
About half way in I kinda knew how it would end but it kept me reading anyway. The characters are well defined. An entertaining story that would make a good movie if handled right.
Great!
I couldn’t put this book down. I had to find out what happened to our main characters.
The story started off well but I didn’t think it went anywhere.
Beautifully written, page Turner with lots of emotional storylines. I loved Gilchrist and I loved this one too
Very suspenseful and a good story. I like how it ended with a possible sequel ending. The characters come to life and the story winds things together very well. Very enjoyable read.
Could not finish. Too graphic
I really enjoyed this book. It actually surprised me how it ended
I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book but got caught up in it. The characters are every day people who deal with tragedy in varying ways- trying to protect themselves and the status quo. Good ending and everything is resolved. Wish they would have done one more chapter about Kara and her family.
I would give this zero stars. I couldn’t get through the first two chapters of rape and animal cruelty. It got some good reviews but this is not what I want to read and I’m sorry that it appeals to so many. Maybe I missed something by not continuing but UGH.
Story line god but borderline porn.
