In the aftermath, a figure appears in the shadows – Elijah. With an air of mysteriousness and answers she had no idea she needed, Emery suddenly understands she’s not alone.

Emery has always been taunted and picked on since she was a child. She was an orphan and never fit in anywhere. One night walking home from her job she is attacked by a group of boys and a power awakens in her she didn’t know existed. Elijah turns up and offers her safety and for some reason she trusts him. Kade is among the friends that Elijah introduces her to and is none to friendly. Emery has so much information thrown at her she doesn’t know if she will ever figure out this new world she is a part of.
I have not read anything by Maria Macdonald before. I loved that she took a girl who had never had anyone show much kindness to her and gave her a group of people who eventually who teach her about love and friendship. I enjoy the paranormal gifts that the characters have and Emery is learning to control. Looking forward to the next book in this YA series.
I may not really be a PNR reader but I’ve come to enjoy it, although it always depends on the story. But there’s just something about how this author writes, that always gets you drawn into the story. She has really become a one-click author of mine and definitely a favorite! I loved getting to know the characters in this new series. Even if PNR isn’t really your thing, these might just do the trick to change your mind, if you just give it a try and go into it with an open mind, you might find something new 🙂 It ends on a “little” cliffhanger but luckily you don’t have to wait much longer for the second book. I for one can’t wait to see how the story goes and yep, I may be a little scared ‘cuz I just want a happy ending 🙂
Emery is rescued by a complete stranger, after having to deal with the worst night of her life. He tells her to run as fast as she can. The next thing she knows, she’s entering a whole new world that she never knew even existed. With Elijah by her side, she discovers bits and pieces from her past that still doesn’t make any sense to her but with each passing day, there’s a strength inside her that keeps on growing. But with Kade’s eyes on her, there’s something deeper between them that he doesn’t seem to want to recognise. And although Kade tries to stay away, there’s this undeniable connection that he won’t be able to deny for much longer. But with Emery now coming into her new life and into powers nobody around her even knew she possessed, it becomes clearer and more apparent that a threat is looming over her and her new family. With the danger coming nearer, will they find a way to keep Emery safe from harm?… Will Kade finally let his walls come down?… And will Emery find a way to control whatever is brewing inside her?…
Why oh why did I wait so long to read this book. I have only heard great things about Chrysalis from other readers and I now know how correct they are.
I try to go in blind when I read a book and I didn’t know much about this story other than a few character names. I tend to enjoy most book tropes which is why I feel I don’t need blurb guidance when choosing a book to read. I do love pnr reads but have found that sometimes there can be so much going on with strange names to remember alongside the nature of special abilities but Chrysalis was an absolute pleasure to read. I thought explanations of who was who and what they could do where perfect for me. I was never left wondering or confused which helps with the flow of the story.
I don’t think I have ever been more delighted with the title of a book than I feel with this one. It’s strange that I actually feel the need to comment on this, but to be honest I couldn’t have put a better word than Chrysalis on the cover. I thought the characters were fabulous. The story was unique and I loved it. The flow and progression were perfect…. there is nothing that I would want to change.
The flip side to kicking myself for not reading this sooner is that I don’t have to wait much longer for the next book in the series titled Reverence which is out in a couple of months. I really cannot wait to see what happens next.
Wow!!!! I’m not usually a paranormal reader but I received an arc from this phenomenal author so started reading. Chrysalis gripped me from the first few pages and has me hooked. Loved the characters and storyline. Elijah is brilliant I can’t wait for more of Emery in the second instalment. Thank you once again Maria you’ve outdone yourself again
