The good sheriff Peter to the rescue. I really love small town settings and this town of Nowhere (odd name) hit the spot. I love how caring Peter was. Yes it was his job to care for the people of the town, but it was more then that. I really just loved his character. This book has a lot going on, but at the same time the way that it was written, everything shifted together perfectly. The amnesia plot with Kaylen hooked me in. I’m a sucker for those. The mystery/suspense behind trying to figure out who she is, everything going on surrounding her being found and what happened after…. it all just hooked me. There was a paranormal aspect to the book that really drew me in as a reader. lovers of shows like supernatural will love this book.
I’m not really sure how I feel about the ending. I can see all the points, I can see why things had to happen, but it still left me sad even with the HEA. Maybe it means there is or will be more to some of these characters. This was my second book by this author and I enjoyed it as much as my first. (The Boys Club) I plan to read more in the future. 4 stars #2OCCJD
Author Angie Martin has done it again. I the prologue and how it references “the grey”. Chrysalis will take you on a journey of twists and turns you won’t be expecting.
Chrysalis is well written, planned, and the story is better than I ever imagined. I loved it so much I’m already starting a re-read. It’s not often that I read a book more than once, and I’ve never started a book over from the beginning so soon after finishing it, but I just can’t help myself.
I can’t wait to see what Angie has in store for us next.
Evil in the middle of Nowhere
I liked Chrysalis, a lot. That’s a heck of a recommendation, seeing as how I am normally not a fan of horror, don’t read Stephen King, and find gruesome gory scenes more nauseating than fascinating. Chrysalis is different. Chrysalis is exceptionally intriguing, with its small-town, middle-American setting, its laid-back population of salt-of-the-earth country folk, and its insular way of life. Sheriff Peter Holbrook loves and guards his beloved Nowhere, Kansas. despite the ho-hum, despite his unrequited love for Hannah, and despite “the Gray” – an annual local weather phenomenon which blankets the town in dark clouds and rain for weeks on end. Angie Martin lures you in with “the Gray” and its accompanying sense of something inexplicable, and when car-crash/amnesia victim Kaylen is pulled from her smashed car, and when butterflies begin swarming the Sheriff, he (and we) begins to understand that incredible and troubling paranormal events are going to disrupt Nowhere forever unless he intervenes. I refuse to write spoilers, so just know that the dramatic suspense and the sense of gathering doom grabs you from the beginning and doesn’t let go, that everything Peter, (and the reader) used to call normal hides something so much more, and that however you think the book, and the love story, are going to end – isn’t gonna happen. I think some of the symbolism (clouds, butterflies) gets a little heavy handed, but Martin’s ingeniously depicted setting sets the mood perfectly, her well-drawn characters carry the mystery. the fear, and the hope throughout the story’s strange twists and turns to Its costly and bittersweet HEA. I thank the author for the ARC of Chrysalis, and it’s my voluntary and independent opinion that, next to William Peter Blatty’s classic, The Exorcist, this is the finest paranormal/horror/mystery I’ve ever read.
This book had me mesmerized from the very beginning. This is my first read by Angie Martin and it certainly won’t be my last. The descriptions and development of the story and characters are amazing, and allow you to be part of the story almost immediately. You can imagine yourself in the midwestern town of Nowhere, KS and being one with the characters. The plot is amazing (and creepy) with twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end! As every wonderful/great book should be, this was a page-turner that was really hard to put down and do anything else productive! If you’ve never read anything in the paranormal genre, this is a great introduction! You will be a new fan forever! A definite must read regardless of your favorite genre, it’s a great read for anyone who loves to read!
I loved this book. Peter’s story around “the gray” is very intriguing! Once Kaylen gets her memory back the light shines and things start getting uber intriguing. I love Kaylen’s ultimate sacrifice and the epilogue.
Do not read the ending out of sync!! It will ruin a good book. This is a paranormal mystery, suspense story with twists and turns. Ones you don’t see coming. If you love paranormal you will love this book. if your new, this book will ease you in. Win win
This is a really scary and compelling story that absolutely had me shaking in my boots! I could not put this book down until the end and then, I could not stop thinking about it. I am hoping for more by this author.

Four and a half stars. Angie Martin has a great imagination and does a good job of putting it on paper. All of her books I have read are unique. This one is no different. The romance and violence are handled well within the context of the story, although there is not a lot of either. Will Kaylen get her memory back? What will happen to her relationship with Peter? And what is with the butterflies? The ending was unexpected for me but it is a good one.

Is a blood bond stronger than a childhood seeded love?
When he was young, Peter suffered from epilepsy. His mother told him the epilepsy was from angels trying to hug him. Even though he failed to believe her words were exactly true, he did have a lingering faith, as well as an open mindedness about other forces on the universe.
When the grayness that used to haunt the town in winter came much more often and other things began to happen, Peter had enough of an open mind to help fight it.
Intense KU psychological thriller and romance .

Year after year it came back. They called it the gray. But the gray wasn’t just storms and overcast days, there was something, something that you could feel even if you couldn’t see it. They both had childhood trauma though very different it changed them. Now the gray is more menacing than ever. Something is going on and this author makes it a bone chilling thrill to find out what. It’s not hard to figure out there’s something evil afoot yet this author keeps things interesting while merging some mystery, a little paranormal and a tab bit of closed door romance. It’s not hard to find yourself lost in the story. While I haven’t read much of this author’s work I have thoroughly enjoyed what I have and love her style of weaving you into the story and characters. Kaelynn immediately worms her way into your heart and you can’t help but get wrapped up emotionally with her character and her past. At the same time your heart bleeds for the romance that should but never blossoms for the Sheriff and his lady. The intrigue and suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat, the story will keep you there.
This book grabs you by the throat, confuses you then brings all the pieces back together. I recommend to those who like sci-fi / thrillers.
I really enjoy the small town meeting of this story and suspense that was written throughout the story creating a thrilling read. I really enjoyed the storyline of this book and the story building within the story. It really created a great read that had me engaged from start to finish.
As a big Stephen King and James Herbert fan, I am always on the lookout for a good horror novel. Angie Martin’s Chrysalis did not disappoint. From the start, Ms Martin draws you into this intriguing tale of horror and mystery in the small town of Nowhere. This is my first novel by this author, but it will not be my last.
Wow! This book pulls you in from the first page. It was so good. I was freaked out at times (great writing!!) and yet read through to find out how things turn out. Holy moly, it’s so good!! Give it a try if you’re into creepy, excellent characters, and an awesome writing style.
Fast pace plot, that pulls you in deeper with each turned page.
…much more than meets the eye, more than just suspenseful paranormal read.
This book had me gripped from the start. A whole new twist of witches, The Between and demons/angels. When I first started I didn’t think that I get very far. As soon as I started it had me hooked. As I progressed more into it, it really compelled me to get further and further along. Angie really outdid herself this time. Please keep writing more to this. I want to know about her getting the grimoire.
“I received a copy at no cost from the author.”
