So glad I found this collection by Linda Mahkovek. I love to read of Christmas times of the past. Times were hard but it just made every single thing more special! This is so true in this intro story to the Christmas time series. I’m anxious to go on to the next year’s story!
Christmastime 1939 is the prequel to the Christmastime series set in the 1940’s. The main character Lillian Hapsey is a widow with two young children. She is determined to give her kids a good Christmas despite disturbing news about Hitler and her own financial concerns. Can she create a magical Christmas for her kids? Read to find out.
Christmastime 1939 is a nostalgic trip back to 1939…before World War Two, when life seemed easier. Except life isn’t easy for Lillian, a young widow with two young boys. Lillian struggles to make ends meet and raise her boys on her own. She has lost the spirit of Christmas and no relief is in sight. I read Christmastime 1939 in one sitting and will now be reading the rest of the Christmastime series!
With the Holiday Season upon us I found my choice of reading material these past few days too be the “perfect” choice.
Christmastime 1939 (a prequel) by Linda Mahkovec, is a heart-warming, feel good story of nostalgia, quirky characters, and a mother’s love and tenacity all the while living in Brooklyn, NY with her two, very active, young sons during WWII. Add in a combative boss and the struggles with her late husband’s passing while trying to make ends-meet and holding it together during a bout of the holiday dulldrums as worries become all-consuming; you now have the very thing that makes a story, a story….
Christmas is a time of rejoicing, of hopes and dreams…. of peace and the love of family, yet we all tend to let the circumstance around us during this time to overwhelm… and this rings true for our main character, the lovable Lillian Hapsey.
This story will tug at the heart strings and have you emotionally invested as it moves you though the facets of Lillians’ quest of re-kindling her passion and believing in herself, once again.
I highly recommend this for anyone looking for that touching story of the Christmas Spirit. This is truly an inspiring novella that you will appreciate and be entertained by.
Thank you Linda Mahkovec for writing this truly enjoyable story.
