I enjoyed this clean, suspenseful romance. I bought this at a local library sale. I’ve voluntarily chose to review this story and I have given it a 5* rating. Wow, this author has given us another edge of seat, hard to put down suspense. Plenty of bad guys out and about, doing their thing. Plenty of good guys and gals tracking them down. Enjoyed the hero and heroine and all those working with them. Most of the good guys win and work things out. Onto my next read.
There is very little Christmasy beyond the timeframe in ‘Christmas Witness Protection‘, the first title in the ‘Protected Identities‘ series, and the fact that not only was Holly born on Christmas but the events that will fuel this intriguing romance have a deadline of Christmas Eve.
‘Christmas Witness Protection‘ hits the ground running as the action and the intrigue begin at the very first line of this story. Holly is a Corporal who has agreed to testify against her mentor/superior about missing weapons. She’s not the most popular person at the moment and has received death threats which is partly why she agreed to temporary witness protection. While being transported from one safe house, Holly and her escort are attacked, the officer killed, and while injured Holly is abducted. Fortunately for Holly, her escort had been on the phone with another detective during the chase and attack so Noah was already searching for her.
What follows a very fast-paced beginning will expose a vile enemy, several detectives who are not officially on duty for various reasons who band together to not only protect Holly but stop two dark web monsters from destroying countless lives, for the money, and simply because they can. Beyond this point, you should be reading ‘Christmas Witness Protection‘ firsthand for yourself. The action rarely lets up for long, the plot was full of twists and the unexpected, and the characters were all believable in their various roles. We’ll get to meet up with this band of detectives again as each will have their own story told throughout this series.
Neither Holly nor Noah were perfect. They each had differing issues that played a part in how they reacted to each other. For me, this only made them more human, more realistic even when I wanted to sit them down for a stern talking to over some of their actions. Yet, they worked well, and believably together. If I’d wished for a few more pages at the end to wrap up their romance a bit tighter, well, that’s the romantic in me speaking. I’m hoping that we’ll at least get glimpses of Holly and Noah as the ‘Protected Identities‘ series continues – time will tell. In all, I had a good time, enjoyed this world, and will be returning since I already have the next two stories on my TBR pile. (a new release is due in October 2020).
I own a Kindle edition of this title.
