Lohr proves the old adage that sometimes less can deliver more than a heart could ever have hoped for. Christmas with Dr. Darling takes the simple approach when it comes to stealing a heart. Derek and Victoria bring value to a sentiment that seems to be easily forgotten. Happiness lies in giving, not receiving. There’s a ton of heart waiting to be discovered inside of this beautiful life lesson.
Poor little rich girl grows into a beautiful swan.
Christmas with Dr. Darling is a sweet, festive novella and a true case of opposites attract. Victoria is rich and used to getting what she wants. Following a visit to the urgent care clinic she wants Dr. Derek Darling. He wants nothing to do with her. After some serious doctor stalking Victoria follows him to the charity clinic where he soon challenges her to volunteer. This is a sweet, funny, humbling and romantic novella with more than a sprinkling of hope, faith and magic. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
Barbara Lohr is an auto-buy author for me, and her books are always on my Must Read List. If you love contemporary romance, check out this author’s books, including her latest, Christmas With Dr. Darling!
Christmas with Dr. Darling: A Clean Friends to Lovers Romance (Best Friends to Forever #3) by Barbara Lohr is an absolutely wonderful Christmas tale. It is fun and the main character made me laugh out loud from start to finish but not only is it a wonderful tale of Christmas it also has a powerful message about those who are less fortunate than others. Barbara has once again shown why she is where she is as an author and it is because she knows just how to give us a story that you find yourself falling in to the world she has created and falling in love with the characters that she creates. I love all of Barbara’s work but I think this just may be my favourite so far.
Victoria is a poor little rich girl who has had everything she ever wanted but now sees there is more to life than she would have ever known if it wasn’t for the handsome new doctor in town. Victoria is a wonderful character who Barbara wrote beautifully. Her thoughts were just brilliant and it made it so easy to turn the pages. I was sad to see it end.
Dr Darling has always wanted to help those less fortunate than himself and now that dream has become a reality but for how long without the means to run it properly. He can’t do more than he is but sometimes it doesn’t feel like enough. When an impossibly spoilt young lady comes to visit the clinic he doesn’t like what he sees but can she prove him wrong?
I cannot say enough about this story and about Barbara as an author. You need to read not only this wonderfully crafted story but all her others as well. I know I am working through them and have never been disappointed.
Christmas with Dr. Darling is a sweet, heart warming romance between Victoria, the privileged rich girl, and Derek, a doctor dedicated to helping the under served. This year Victoria searches for a more meaningful Christmas. After stalking Derek to his clinic in another town, watch Victoria grow as she volunteers at the clinic and becomes truly invested in the patients there. Victoria has several great ideas and Derek begins to see her in a different light. This is a sweet, funny, romance that can be enjoyed by everyone.
Victoria has lived a life of luxury. With the women around her getting married she is starting to want those things for herself. While trying to decorate her business for Christmas she has a small accident and has to go to the local urgent care. She doesn’t know that this will change her life yet.
Derek is burning the candle at both ends between the urgent care and his clinic. In walks in a beautiful girl with an eye injury. He is not quit sure what to think about her.
Victoria decides he may be worth a second look and returns to the urgent care. From there she hatches a plan. She finds his clinic and volunteers. They both will find out what is most important during the Christmas season. Victoria will learn to put her guard down and step out of her comfort zone and Derek will not jump to judgement on people so quick. I hope the readers will enjoy the story of Victoria and Derek. They help a lot of people and show what Christmas spirit is all about. I was given this book by the author and publisher for my honest review.
OMG can you image your doctor being named Dr Darling? Well how about if he was hot as fire and so very nice too. Socialite Victoria Pomeroy what can one say about a snarky snobby rich girl who thinks that she is owed it all. But life decides that Victoria should have her eyes open and it decided to do so by allowing pine needles to do the work for fate. I tell you Dr Darling had the patience of a saint when dealing with this one and as the story moved on I became so sucked in I could not put it down. Life teaches us many lessons… at times it my seem like it’s a simple thing or it could be the the pine needle in the eye that helps you see things clearer.
A sweet story of people changing for the better and realizing sometimes there is more to a person than what is on the surface. The way The story is written is great. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Christmas with Dr. Darling Best Friends to Forever book 3 by Barabara Lohr is a sweet Christmas Story. Even though this is the third book in the series it can be read as a standalone. It is never too early to start reading Christmas books and this one is a wonderful story which drew me right in, making me forget everything else and did not let me go until I turned the last page. The characters are well developed. A well written story with a very good storyline, a story that kept me turning pages. It shows how first impressions are sometimes wrong and that people can change. Barbara Lohr never disappoints.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I was introduced to Victoria Pomeroy in the first book of the series. I didn’t like her very much. I started to warm up to her in the second book but not by much. Here Victoria is fully revealed. I really started to understand her. Her parents are rich and have spoilt her. This is really her “coming of age”. She meets Dr. Darling on her first trip to urgent care after an accident. She immediately falls into lust for the handsome doctor. She basically starts to “stalk” him. Derek Darling works in the urgent care but volunteers at a clinic he opened a few miles away to help those that have no health care. Derek doesn’t do “spoilt rich” girls. He dated one in his past and that was enough.
Fortunately this story is written in a dual POV format. At first Victoria is her typical spoilt self but the longer she is around Derek and those he helps, she starts to see another side of life that she has been protected from. I slowly warmed up to her and then toppled over into loving her. I did love her internal talking with herself when she is with Derek in the beginning. It was hilarious.
This is a sweet, clean romance that shows how falling in love with the right someone can really change your life. I highly recommend this story to anyone.
Victoria seemed selfish and spoiled in the previous books, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from her in this one. But she definitely proves that people can change. I laughed so much in this book starting with her pine tree branches eye disaster and discovering what helping out at hunky Dr. Darling’s clinic really entailed for her. But she was a trooper and her heart grew several sizes this year. Like me Derek Darling had preconceived notions of Victoria, but she showed him that had a heart, could think about others, and can cook. Who knew? I loved the people at the clinic especially Jethro and his dog. It was great to catch up with the characters from the previous books and the all the changes in their lives. I love this series and can’t wait for the next book.
Well. Color me surprised.
Victoria hasn’t always been leading lady material.
Quite the opposite, really. She’s the spoiled socialite.
And Dr. Darling is going to take advantage of that to gain funding for his clinic.
They really are an unlikely match.
But they kind of work.

The spirit of Christmas, giving from your heart, and romance made this story a lot of fun to read. I really liked that Victoria Pomeroy had a chance to redeem herself in this book because I was not impressed by her character and antics in the previous books. She seemed like a spoiled, rich girl who had her daddy wrapped around her little finger. How fun it was to see her change and her heart open to the spirit of Christmas in this book. I enjoyed how the story ended and I enjoyed the epilogue too. Looks liked I misjudged her just like Dr. Darling did. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
I want to say that this is about a spoiled little rich girl…but truly, Victoria Pomeroy is so much more than that. In past books, she has come across as that spoiled woman but in this, her HEA story, we really get to know her better. She cares, under all that fluff – she just hasn’t had the opportunity to see that the…less fortunate… in the world don’t just have everything they need and/want appear before them. In her usual way, the book opens with her skirting the rules and trimming some branches from the trees in the center of town. She gets hurt and ends up at the urgent care center. It is there that she meets Dr. Darling – Derek Darling.
Derek is troubled, in his own way, and sees the “spoiled heiress” side of Victoria…until he doesn’t. He is trying to set up a clinic and helps those who cannot afford care. He works by day as a “paid” doctor and in his off time, he runs that “free” clinic. Victoria shows up there too, really trying to score a date, but when she meets some of the patients (regulars, if you will) and slowly starts to fall in love with everyone she meets. Derek starts to see another side of Victoria, but he still isn’t convinced.
Their story is truly a wonderfully sweet holiday romance. To read about their slow buildup to an HEA, to read about their own personal growth, and to read about them growing closer, it touched my heart and will make your holiday. I really enjoyed – it had some funny I Love Lucy moments that were hilarious. It had some touching moments, too, where both Victoria and Derek had to deal with their own places within their families. And it was fun to visit with past characters, friends of Victoria’s, and left me with a smile. It’s a standalone but characters from previous books show up and I always enjoy visiting with old friends.
I enjoyed reading Christmas with Dr. Darling. Victoria had been spoiled rotten by her parents. She is learning to make her own way in the world and through the course of the book becomes a very likable character. She’s never unlikable in this book, but her character grows and develops to become someone that you’d enjoy having for a good friend. Dr. Darling, yes, that’s his real name, and the book makes fun of it; is a great, well-developed character with a dislike for rich girls. Victoria’s big change influences not only her family, but also her customers, and makes for a great Christmas story! I would recommend this to readers of clean/wholesome romance and to lovers of all things Christmas. I received a complimentary copy. I chose to write a review and share my opinion of this fun romance.
A charming and inspirational Christmas romance with endearing characters and a beautifully written story that is perfect for the season. I loved Victoria’s tenacity determined to chase Dr. Darling until he catches her and in the process she grows up, finds confidence and gets caught up in the holiday spirit. I am always excited to read a book by Barbara Lohr because she never disappoints whatsoever. I received an advance reader copy of “Christmas with Dr. Darling” and liked it so much, I purchased a copy so I can read it over and over again.
A product of her upbringing, Victoria had always been known as the spoilt little rich girl, one who is shallow, self-centered and self-absorbed. However, striking out for independence and to prove her worth, she starts a coffee shop where the people she had previously antagonised start to become friends. Taking more and more risks, Victoria injures herself under embarrassing circumstances and lands up at the clinic where Dr Derek Darling attends to her. Rocking her world, Victoria is determined to find a way to get Dr D. to notice her, which results in her volunteering at his clinic. Much to her own surprise, Victoria discovers herself immersed in duties that would make her mother faint, and what’s more, she is enjoying herself. Having read the previous books in this series, I was delighted to see the transformation of Victoria and the emergence of her kind heart. As a hardworking doctor, Derek has had to fight for the right to care for his patients, and although Victoria unsettles him, he is able to put aside his preconceived ideas and see her for the person she really is. This story touched my heart, encompassing the spirit of Christmas and the miracles of the human heart. The romance in this novel is sweet and fairly low key. Rather there is an emphasis on growing relationships and respect, resulting in bringing people together. It also speaks of finding the true value in the important things in life. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
