Christmas Sugar was a sweet and perfect romance read to give you that holiday season feeling. I enjoyed this story a lot and the characters in this story was a complete delight. However, I have to be honest, it did take me a while to warm up to Dylan’s character. The little lisping angel (I don’t want to give her name away) had me completely wrapped around her finger and she made me enjoy this story even more. I absolutely loved her! She gave this story the sweet and heartfelt moments that I enjoy completely. I do wish I felt a little bit more of a connection between the main characters in the story but it was a great read with a sweet ending. A great story for all readers.
A well written and perfect holiday read. It’s a heartfelt story that’ll give you the feels. An instant connection and love between the H and h. Loved reading it.
Christmas Sugar
(Insta-Spark Collection #2)
Written by: Melanie Moreland
Dylan Maxwell, businessman and alpha boss who knows what he likes and what he doesn’t like and to be clear Dylan doesn’t like sugar. In or on anything! He’s off to the Sleepy Moose Inn part of the Ocean Bluff Resort this is part of his property deal…and he will close this deal. Feared by his new assistant and put in his place by Arlene his oldest and closest friend, Dylan is hoping for a quick trip, a firm handshake and then back to Toronto.
Of course the best-laid plans of alpha businessmen sometimes are held hostage by snowstorms. His arrival falls flat when a teen by the name of Seth is there to pick him up and bring him back to the inn. Let’s just say Dylan’s expectations are pretty much gone by the time he arrives at the Inn. It’s at the Inn he meets Alex, the manager, and Noelle. You know that saying about first impressions…Dylan didn’t pass that test!
With big city Dylan and small town Alex, Seth, Noelle and Inn owner George, it’s easy going to be a very interesting negotiation. It’s during the snowstorm we learn so much about Dylan and even more about Alex and her family.
Melanie Moreland gives us a “sweet” story where love is learned, hearts are opened and sugar is added to a life. Make sure you have some yummy Christmas Cookies and hot chocolate with you while you read this story.
Christmas Sugar is book two in the Insta-Spark series by Melanie Moreland. While I loved the first book in this series, I adored this one. You put together one broody multi-millionaire work-a-holic, one seventeen year old boy trying hard to be a man, one adorable four year old little girl with a lisp, and her mother, an over-worked, sweet woman who has given up on love. Add that all in with Christmas time and what do you have? Magic!
Dylan Maxwell spends his life working. He has built Maxwell Corp., a multimillion dollar land development conglomerate from the ground up. Dylan is alone, the only person in his life that he has affection for is the woman who is also his long time assistant, Arlene Carson, who pretty much raised him and is the closest thing he has to a mother.
“There are many ways to be rich in this world. Not all of them involve money. Remember that.”
Dylan has been itching to buy the Ocean Bluff Resort in Nova Scotia for some time and has finally scheduled a meeting with the owner, George. But George has insisted that Dylan must come and stay at the resort’s Sleepy Moose Inn if he wants to meet with him. For Dylan, this is simply something he needs to do to get his way. But when he walked in to the lobby, and the woman behind the desk smiled at him, everything changed.
Alexis (Alex) Walsh is a single mom to her daughter Noelle and guardian to Seth. Alex spends her days and nights running the inn for George and taking care of both George and the kids. She is in a constant state of exhaustion but everyone is counting on her. She knows why Dylan is coming. She knows George has to sell the inn. But it doesn’t make it any easier to accept because this is her and the children’s home.
“It felt as if I’d found something I didn’t know I was missing.”
The attraction is fast and strong between these two. Dylan is shown how it would feel to be a part of a family. To be cared for because of himself, not for his name or what he’s worth. But, their time is limited. His home, his business, is in Toronto, and theirs is here.
“He wasn’t the sort of man looking for a relationship. I wasn’t the sort of woman that had flings. No matter how attractive he was.”
What a beautiful story this was. My eyes watered, in the best of ways. Little Noelle stole my heart the first time she appeared on the pages. And Dylan stole my heart as well. Dylan who thought he had no capacity for love, for emotion, but whose heart physically expanded with all the love he had for this family.
I love reading Christmas stories, no matter what time of year. And this one completely stole my heart. I loved everything about it. Thank you, Melanie, for making my eyes water and a VERY inconvenient time. And for making me fall in love, once again, with your characters.
What a sweet and wonderful story!! This was my first read by Melanie Moreland, but it won’t be my last! Dylan and Alex were just lovely together. These two people were merely existing in life until they happened upon each other. Dylan thought he had it al in his successful business, that is until he meets Alex and her kids. They knocked him off his axis for sure. Noelle and Seth were just fantastic kids! Noelle stole my heart just like she stole Dylan’s! He may have been tough and bossy toward others, but his Little Owl and Darling Girl definitely brought out his soft side. A total winner!!
Reading a Christmas book in February? Well, why not? I needed a palate cleanser, this one is instalove, sweet and resolved relatively quickly.
With wonderful secondary characters, Christmas Sugar hit all the right notes for me and I might have shed a tear of joy or two somewhere towards the end when Dylan had a lightbulb moment.
Sentimental and very touching.
Dylan and Alex, a sexy holiday story to set romance on fire. I loved this book the witty little girl with the lisp that catches Dylan’s heart first. The Annoying teenager, cause come on they all really are. Speaks volumes of truth in his clumsy and stubborn ways. But the sparks that fly during his stay at the hotel are the best. The awkwardness, the longing looks and sexy scenes made for the perfect read. This book needs to be a hallmark movie! Its got everything from kisses to boots.
Christmas Magic and Love!
Christmas Sugar is everything I love in a holiday romance. Picturesque setting with snow and cliffs. Interesting characters that provide laughs, passion, and hope. The instant spark between Dylan and Alex intensifies and supplies an abundance of heat. Add in a moody teenager and a sweet little girl and you get all the feels! Melanie Moreland warmed my heart and reaffirmed my belief in love and Christmas magic.
Wow im really quite emotional after reading this absolutely beautiful book. A truly wonderful Christmas story that will melt your heart and soul!
I just loved all the characters! There was one character that was so priceless I couldn’t help but fall in love with her and her lisp! She was priceless and I thought the way the storyline went hooked me from start to finish!
Truly a story to fall in love with! Its a real credit to the authors talent in writing
This truly is a Christmas story. At times tears left my eyes, the story you’ve written so beautiful, so touching, so heartwarming. Thank you for that Melanie! I hope many will read this fantastic story
Another winner by Melanie Moreland! I loved following Dylan and Alex’s story. Little Noelle is absolutely adorable as she charms her way in to Dylan’s heart.
What a fun, quick and romantic read. Poor Dylan didn’t stand a chance when he met Alex, Noelle and Seth, he thought he was going in and be out in a flash and not be affected by the little family on at the in. Guess he didn’t know that love conquers all. Really enjoyed this book. Definitely a must read if you are in the mood for some sweet loving and romance.
Such a sugary sweet story! Alex is an overworked single mother who always puts everyone else first, but she’s not one to back down to grouchy Dylan. They work so well together and are exactly what each one needs. Noelle grew on me throughout the book. This is a perfect Christmas read.
I love this sweet and swoony Christmas story! Christmas Sugar is a bit like those Christmas movies I’m ‘slightly’ addicted to, but even better and definitely Hotter!
Dylan’s life is all about business, almost no leisure or personal interests. When he gets snowed in for a few days on a trip to scope out an investment, he really gets taken by surprise by his immediate and strong attraction to Alex and her little family.
This story is chock full of amazing characters to fall in love with. It was great that the story doesn’t just abruptly end. The author gives us so much more than the hea we wish for.
-5 Stars!-
I must say I’m a bit of a grump when it comes to Christmas, it takes a lot to get me in the Christmas spirit, so when the chance of reading this little number from Melanie came along I jumped at the chance, her books always bring a smile to my face, so was hoping she could work her magic and put a little Christmas spirit in me – I gotta say I really loved this story, soo good, a holiday must read!!!
Dylan Maxwell, billionaire businessman, used to being catered for in every way, getting his own way all the time, grumpy, cold, rude, demanding, and a person no-one said ‘no’ to!! He’s worked hard to get where he is today, completely committed to his work, no family life, no one who knows him except his assistant who has been with him from the start and is used to his outbursts, but she is retiring and leaving him, much to his disgust!!
A piece of land he has been after for a long time comes on the market, its the last piece in his puzzle to creating a new resort, and he just must have that land, even though he has had to agree to go meet the owner in person and spend a few days there before the owner will decided whether or not to sell – not Dylan’s usual style, but he is willing to do this in order to get what he wants. What he didn’t expect was to meet a woman who would turn his world upside down, a little girl who would make his heart melt, and a young boy about to reach manhood looking for some guidance.
Alex is a single mum and in charge of running the Sleepy Moose Inn. Life is difficult and trying at times, but she is hoping to have a nice Christmas, knowing her world is about to change as the land she lives and works on is to be sold, no if or buts about it. Dylan Maxwell is cold, demanding and aloof, with no regard for anyone but himself, yet she manages to see past this to find the man inside, vulnerable and looking for love, but they are from two very different worlds, a relationship that could never work.
This was a wonderful read, full of hope and an engaging romantic storyline that’s sure to fill you with Christmas cheer, along with the most adorable four year old you will ever meet!!! Funny, witty and heartwarming – one of the best holiday reads yet this year!!
Christmas Sugar is hands down my favorite holiday read this year. I could totally see Christmas Sugar as a Hallmark or Netflix movie. The storyline is sweet and cute. The characters are all lovable. I would recommend this book to everyone who wants a heartwarming romance book.
Dylan is the owner and CEO of Maxwell Corp and his whole focus is hinged on the success of his company to the deteriment of any personal life. He is determined to close his latest multi billionaire dollar deal even if that means he needs to spend Christmas at The Sleepy Moose Inn in Nova Scotia to get it done.
Alex has her hands full with raising her daughter Noelle as well as Seth who is teenager. She manages the Inn but her sole focus is ensuring the happiness and wellbeing of the two children she is responsible for.
These two couldn’t be more different as he is grumpy where she is giving, he is city she is country but the most important different is that she loves her family and he doesn’t want one or does he?
This is a sweet and heartwarming story that will have you believing in Christmas miracles and the magic of the season.
The perfect holiday read
As one of my favorite authors, I was sure I’d love a holiday story by her and I wasn’t disappointed.
Dylan is perfect as the high maintenance, business-centered man who needs to see that there’s more to life, and Alex is just as perfect as the over-worked single mother who helps to open his eyes. Great secondary characters round out the story and there are plenty of feels to go around.
Sweet, funny and touching, if you’re looking for the perfect holiday read, look no further. 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book and the characters but I do have to say my favorite was Noelle. If you are looking for a sweet and heartwarming story this is it.
I really loved Dylan and Alex’s story. Dylan was lost and had an attitude to go with it. Alex was struggling and had experienced a hard life but she was still kind despite her struggles. It was wonderful to read and watch Alex grow and open herself up and watch Dylan fall and loosen up and experience love. Another great read by Melanie Moreland
