Even though I was reading it on eBook, the cover for this book absolutely hooked me. Isn’t it gorgeous? I haven’t read many time travel books but I have enjoyed them when I’ve read them. And who doesn’t love books about Christmas so this certainly promised to be good. It didn’t disappoint. Jina Bacarr tells a lovely story of newly-engaged Kate who is set to elope with the love of her life, Jeff, when the demands of WWII take him away before they have a chance to tie the knot. We then jump forward in time and Kate has carved out a career for herself but still mourns the loss of her only true love. Feeling nostalgic on a train trip back to her childhood home, the most unexpected and magical thing happens and she’s transported back to the lead-up to Christmas and Jeff is still at home. Can she warn him what lies ahead and, if she does, will he even believe her?
A lovely heart-warming story set at Christmas in WWII with lots of lovely era touches that add authenticity to the story. Really enjoyed it
It’s not totally any of these things. But for me, it has elements of many things: one special man for the main character and vice versa; many glimpses of what WWII was like for the war-fighters and those holding down the fort at home; dynamics within the family during both war-time and early 50’s, how family politics may differ among the wealthy versus the “working class”. Also – a bit of fantasy.
I really like the time travel aspect of this book, and the ability to have a second chance to not only change the main character’s history, but her behavior toward others, as well.

QOTD:
If you could change a tragic event from your past, would you?
*REVIEW*
That question is at the heart of Christmas Once Again. Kate tragically lost the man she loved in WWII. Many years later, she boards a train in 1955, and departs that same train in 1943, before his death. Kate, miraculously. has the chance to save the life of her one true love. Remember in Back to the Future how Doc was always telling Marty not to disrupt the space time continuum? That was my first thought about this idea. If Kate saves his life, will a million other things then also change, like the butterfly effect where the change ripples out to unknowns? Does Kate care about any of that, though? Would you, honestly? I won’t spoil anything, so her decision remains a secret until you read it. The story is compelling, tragic and timely. What ifs are universal with no expiration date. Everyone has at least one what if. Kate is a beautiful haunting character, and I wanted happiness for her. This is not strictly a Christmas story because the holiday is in the backdrop, but it’s not the focus, rather the Christmas spirit is entangled within the narrative and the context. This book is definitely Hallmark movie material. Christmas Once Again has all the feels, plus thought provoking questions that stay with you. I recommend for anyone who enjoys the true meaning of Christmas within a historical setting.
Slow moving, but good ending.
