Love everything about all of her books. Love Eternity Springs books
My first trip to Eternity Springs but not my last!
I absolutely adored the town and all the characters. Nicholas and the dogs were beyond cute and Jax and Claire were flawed but so relatable. A perfect holiday read!
Lovely clean read, can see this as a Hallmark movie
For somewhat obvious reasons, I’ve been in a Christmas-story mood. Hallmark Countdown to Christmas and Miracle of Christmas movies? Like catnip. Maybe it’s because the past few months have been kind of rough, both personally and in the world at large. But whatever the reason, I’ve been hungry for heartwarming, craving comfort and cheer, jonesing for joy, crazy for carols… you get the drift.
While it was a tad too early to break out the Christmas playlist, I downloaded the audio book to this story. A betrayed heroine opens a year-round Christmas store in a little Colorado town. There she meets a hot, ex-Navy single dad who is trying to help his traumatized son work through anxiety issues which are exacerbated by… you guessed it… anything having to do with Christmas. From the get go, I was rooting for this dad and his son to find their happiness, and it was clear that they were exactly who the heroine needed (and vice versa). I was anxious to get the heroine and hero together on the page! And when it finally happened it was cute and sexy and so very sweet.
The hero’s former in-laws had me cursing like I was back in the military, but since I was usually driving while listening, that wasn’t anything unusual. (Though my daughter did remind me at one point, “You know this is fiction, right?”) So it was hard to warm up to them and I felt like they needed to experience a little more shame. But I guess I’ll cut them some slack considering the circumstances.
The heroine’s ex, on the other hand, really needed a full comeuppance. I wanted to see the smug wiped off him. I know it’s a Christmas heartwarming story and ’tis the season for forgiveness and all that, but I really hate when people get away with behaving badly, suffering no consequences for the hurt they bestow on others. Sorry… am I projecting a little?
But beyond those two minor nitpicking things, I adored this story. I loved the push-pull between the characters, the charm and warmth of the supporting cast, and most of all the happy ending that filled me with much-needed Christmas spirit. Thank you, Emily, for helping kick-start my spirit this season!
We meet Nicholas in the last book, when Cole helped him at the Rocking L summer camp overcome his fear of dogs with exposure-therapy. This book begins when his father, former Navy nuclear engineer, Jax Lancaster, comes to Eternity Springs to pick him up from camp. While there, he meets Claire Brannam, a recent newcomer to the town, who has open a Christmas Store, to conquor one of her own demons. Jax and Nicholas go back to Seattle, where Nicholas had been living with his grandparents after his mother died, while Jax had been petitioning to be released from the Navy. But Nicholas is still dealing with a horrible trauma that occurred and is not getting better. He wants to go back to Eternity Springs and Jax takes him there for a year, although there is no call for a nuclear engineer there. He falls back on his Navy building skills to support them. Not until mid way through the book do we find out what the horrible experiences both Nicholas and Claire had been through, but this is Eternity springs where broken hearts are healed, second chances are given and romance and families are born.
