CHRISTMAS HIDEOUT by Susan Sleeman is the third book in the McKade Law series. It can definitely be read as a standalone book even though part of a series. It’s the wonderfully written story of Nicole Dyer and Matt McKade.
Nicole Dyer found that she had made a mistake when she fell for Grady Harmon. Although a police officer, she found him to be an anger man who wanted to control her. Breaking up with him evidently wasn’t enough when she starts receiving threatening text. Finding a hunting knife stuck in her butcher block in her locked home has her fleeing for her safety and that of her precious daughter. Where can she go? How can she keep them safe? Leaving with no money, no cell phone and a car that breaks down leads her to the McCade ranch.
Deputy Matt McKade has one goal and one goal only – to become the next police chief to keep the family tradition alive of a McKade being in charge of protecting the citizen under his realm and crime at bay. He’s determination, in his mind, means there is no room or time for personal relationships. That is until he met Nicole and Emilie.
Matt knows he has his work cut out for him to get Nicole to trust another police officer, but Emilie, from the get go, has him wrapped right around her little finger as she found the way deep into his heart. Both Nicole and Matt feel the intense attraction. Both fight it for their own reasons.
Nicole grows to feel safe at the McCade ranch loving how they shine to Emilie and her with them. She starts to dream of what it would be like to be part of this great caring and loving family. Silliness for sure because she knows she will have to leave soon, but to where?
As danger lurks even in the safest places, can Matt keep his promise to keep them both safe? Once they are safe can he really let her walk out of his life? Can Nicole open her heart up to love again? Will they both learn that God has their backs and all he wants is for them to rely on him to be there?
Susan Sleeman does an amazing job of writing a Christmas themed story that you will love any day of the year. She touches you with her characters tugging at your heart strings. She has you sitting on the edge of your seat turning pages to see how the story plays out while you’re hoping for Matt, Nicole and adorable Emilie to become a family. She weaves inspiration into the story while letting the reader see that God is always with us, listening to our prayers and wanting the best for us. CHRISTMAS HIDEOUT is a remarkable story that I highly recommend. If you love romance, suspense, inspirational, a story with morals and values or just a great all round story, then you will love this book just as much as I did.
Romantic suspense is my favorite genre to read, and this book delivered plenty of action and the perfect amount of romance.
Stalkers, lawmen, a little child, horses – what more could you ask in a suspense novel?! Nicole Dyer is hiding with her daughter from a former boyfriend who is stalking her. Lucky for her, after her car breaks down she is able to take refuge in a cabin owned by a family filled with law personnel. As danger seems to get closer and closer, Deputy Matt McCade tries to not only protect Nicole and her daughter but his heart as well. A family-filled suspense novel that does not disappoint.
Who doesn’t love a wonderful romantic suspense with a little Christmas thrown in? Christmas Hideout by Susan Sleeman is definitely worth reading. Matt McKade always thought he would be married to his job until he meets Nicole Dyer and her adorable daughter Emilie. They make him think about the possibility of a different life, but first he has to protect Nicole from her dangerous ex-boyfriend.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
This is an incredible adrenaline rush romantic suspense novel!
I loved this third visit to Lost Creek and the McKade family. The story stands alone but we get an update on the main characters from the previous books in the series.
In this wonderful book Matt steps up and takes the lead trying to catch the man threatening Nicole Dyer. The characters are so well developed that I felt like I could just step into the main house at Trails End Dude Ranch for a visit with good friends.
The plot was fantastic! I was caught up in it from the very beginning. The danger had me holding my breath a number of times. I couldn’t wait for Nicole to finally be out of danger.
Both Matt and Nicole had definite emotional journeys to go on before the end of the book. The need to grow in their trust of God was a huge part for each of them.
There is a delightful little girl thrown in. Her antics kept making me smile just as much as it did all of the McKades.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I have chosen to write this review to express my personal opinion.
Filled with the heart-pounding suspense and masterful writing I’ve come to expect from Susan Sleeman, Christmas Hideout is the latest installment in the McKade Law series. Matt and Nicole’s story kept me turning pages far into the night. Little Emilie was adorable and Matt’s family is still charming, welcoming, and protective. I enjoyed revisiting them in this story. Sleeman’s knowledge and research skills are shown to advantage in her writing, and her characters are realistic and engaging. If you like stories filled with suspense, intrigue, and romance with a side measure of faith and inspiration, you’re sure to enjoy Christmas Hideout.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from the author/publisher. All opinions are my own.
“Christmas Hideout” was great book! It was fast-pace suspense. The reader’s attention is grabbed at the beginning and held to the very end. I would highly recommend this book!
I received a copy from Sleeman. The review is in my honest opinion.
Sheriff’s Deputy Matt McKade is following in his father’s and grandfather’s steps and running for Sheriff. His work and his campaign take all his time and attention. But when he finds Nicole and Emilie, the woman and little girl captivate him even when he’s not sure of the story Nicole tells him at first.
Y’all, Matt with little Emilie is so sweet and swoony. I mean, who can resist a big strong cowboy lawman who is wrapped around the fingers of a little girl? And as hard as he fights it, he also cares for Nicole.
Susan Sleeman once again takes readers on an adventure with a few twists and turns, plenty of danger, and romantic tension surrounded by the love and bond of this family that draws us in.

Christmas Hideout (McKade Law)
Susan Sleeman
A knife in the middle of a picture of you gives you a definite message that you need to get away…and fast!
Nicole grabs just the minimum that she and Emilie will needs and speeds away into the night leaving behind her life plus her purse and money.
She drives until her car breaks down and she is found by Deputy Matt McKade hiding in one of the family cabins.
From there the many twists and turns lead you down a road of danger and possible happiness.
A couldn’t put it down until the end. Another great story in the McKade Law series.
Nicole is in big danger when her ex- boyfriend starts stalking her. The author delivers a fast pace story with action that keeps up till the end. The beginning of the book starts with a bone chilling example of how far the ex-boyfriend will go. I would be running as fast as I could to get away from this crazy person.
Nicole has to think fast and her character is smart and determined. I loved how she bumps into Matt. If you have to hide out, being in Matt’s place is where you should go. I just love his family and how welcome they are to Nicole and her daughter. The story is intense and I couldn’t wait to read more about Matt and his family.
The author delivers another story rich in intrigue that had me on the edge of my seat. It sure is hard to figure out who to trust and Nicole is so determined to go back home and face danger alone. Her faith wavers at times which shows how we can doubt God when we are
in danger.
Matt is not sure Nicole is telling him the whole truth either and that causes friction between the two. It is a great story about trust and forgiveness. I can’t forget to mention Nicole’s daughter. If there ever was an adorable character, Emile is it. She had Matt and his family wrapped around her finger. There is no way Matt was going to let anything happen to Nicole and Emile. Get ready for an adventure with surprises and an ending with a twist.
I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.
Christmas Hideout by Susan Sleeman is the third book in her Love Inspired Suspense McKade Law series. Nicole Dyer is being stalked by her ex-boyfriend. She flees with her three-year-old daughter, Emelie. They find shelter in an empty cabin in the small town of Lost Creek. Deputy Matt McKade vows to make sure that nothing happens to the two of them. The first sentence had me on the edge of my seat and it continued for the whole story. Matt and Nicole both struggled with letting God control their future. When they finally realized that He always knew what was best for them they were able to rest in that knowledge. Sometimes we forget that He’s God and loves us unconditionally. It’s a lesson that sometimes must be learned over and over. If we can give our lives to God then there’s no worries about tomorrow.
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
A friend once told us, “I fell in love with [the daughter] before I fell in love with [her mother]. Nicole and Matt may be the two main characters, but little blue-eyed three-year-old Emilie quickly becomes the star of Christmas Hideout! Nicole thinks she has to clean up her life before returning to God. Matt has trust issues with God. Emilie is just adorable, sweet, and innocent; plus she has a special Christmas wish. I just loved how Emilie manages to burrow her way into everybody’s heart, but especially Matt’s. The mystery‘s end has quite a twist, and the romance is great, but it is the child’s heart that steals mine in this suspenseful, yet heartwarming novel by Susan Sleeman. So good I finished in one sitting. I received a complimentary copy from the author. I am voluntarily leaving a review, and all opinions are my own.
Reading this two days before Halloween gave this stalker story a certain creepy ambiance. Knowing there’s no way for Nicole to escape his shadowy clutches ratcheted up the already razor sharp tension. Her fierce protection for her daughter and the desperate thought of escape running rampant through her head adds another layer to that . I wiped my brow of nervous sweat when Matt McKade discovered the pair in his cabin on his families land. Knowing for certain he would keep them safe and his law enforcement family would envelop the pair in their protective bubble. But proving Nicole’s ex-boyfriend cop of any wrong doing will take nothing short of a miracle! While these two have an almost instantaneous attraction to one another, Nichole can’t bring herself to trust another law enforcement agent nor can Matt give up his dreams to take his father’s place as Sheriff once he retires. Will time heal the wounds in Nicole’s heart and can Matt find a happy balance to take a chance on love?
Another terrific suspense by another favorite author of mine! Balancing high tension, pulse-pounding moments with a strong spiritual message and plenty of sweet little girl laughter & fun, Sleeman takes you on a ride of epic proportions in Christmas Hideout! I always look forward to what’s coming next knowing I’m in for the adventure of my life! If you love thrilling suspense, faith-filled characters, and feeling like you’re right there in the middle of the action, then I highly recommend this one. Why not pick up the other McKade Law series books while you’re at it?
*My thanks to the author for a complimentary copy. No review was required and all opinions are my own.*
HEART-STOPPING SUSPENSE!
Christmas Hideout (McKade Law Book 3) is full of heart-stopping suspense from from the first sentence to the last! Susan Sleeman hooks you in the first paragraph and takes you on another wild adventure with the McKade family. The hero of this book is Deputy Sheriff Matt McKade who rescues Nicole Dyer and her precious little daughter. It’s a miracle her car died in front of the McKade’s cabins. The McKades open their home and their hearts to these two strangers and reflect the love of Jesus to them.
Sleeman brings all the elements of romantic suspense to this novel. A young woman and her young child running for their lives from a deranged stalker. A Deputy who puts his own life, his family and his future on the line to protect this woman while he’s desperately trying to deny his attraction to her. Murders in a quiet, small town. Threats all around. Too many secrets to count. Who can you trust? Where is God in all of this? How can He forgive past mistakes and allow people to start over with a clean slate? Another novel to keep you up all night long! I was provided an ARC of this novel by the author. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
I love this McKade family! They are tough law enforcement people but better yet, they are a tight-knit family that not only help each other, but anyone else that needs their help! I really enjoyed this story about one of the sons, Matt. He has a lot on his plate as he has a goal of running of sheriff to take his dad’s place soon. He’s just out checking the family’s cabins on their dude ranch one night and runs across a woman (Nicole) and her daughter in one – what??? He’s naturally suspicious, being a law man – so when he hears her story that she’s running away from a stalker ex-boyfriend, he’s a little leery of her. But, her darling young daughter gets to him and he’s not going to let them stay in the cabin during the winter so he bring them into his family home. Of course his loving family just embraces them and surround them with all their “law enforcement” connections! Nicole doesn’t know what to think! Is this family for real? They practically adopt her daughter and her! I absolutely fell in love with Nicole’s daughter! What a cutie! The stalker ex-boyfriend is a cop so that is extra hard to deal with! You definitely need to pick up this book and read it! It has a lot of twists and turns but I guarantee it’ll keep you reading until the last page!
Once again, this talented author, gives us a Christian suspenseful romance filled with twists and turns that have you trying to figure the “whodunit”.
As good as the suspense was, the relationship between single mom, Nicole Dyer, and Deputy Matt McKade was the real star of the story, as well as the faith in God.
At times we forget that in order to feel an inner peace and find the right answers to our concerns and problems, all we have to do is do our best and leave the rest to God.
This is a story about hope, love , faith , family and the miracle of Christmas.
If you have read the previous stories about the McKade clan, you will enjoy catching up with them. If you haven’t , I highly recommend that you take the time and “meet” the family.
Another engaging story with complex characters. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for Kendall, Matt’s sister.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
‘…even a hint of a woman in physical danger riled him to no end, and he couldn’t just push it away.’
Christian romantic suspense author Susan Sleeman gives her readers book 3 in her McKade Law series with this book. This time Deputy Matt McKade discovers a woman with a small child hiding out in one of their family’s empty rental cabins on their ranch. She is obviously scared to death of something and that moves him, but he has to remain on alert as a lawman. He is used to hearing stories that are not true, even though his senses tell him she is on the up and up.
Nicole Dyer is running from a bad breakup with her ex boyfriend turns stalker when her car breaks down and she is forced to seek refuge in one of the McKade cabins. Can she believe this lawman when he tells her she can stay as his family’s ranch until they can get this sorted out? After all, she knows that cops can be totally untruthful and devious. She agrees, then things begin to heat up, both her feelings for the handsome lawman and the danger to her and her daughter. Can Matt keep them safe until he finds out who is behind these attacks? Will Nicole rediscover her faith?
Susan Sleeman once again delivers on the suspense front. I read this in one day. She keeps her readers on the edge of their seats and she pumps up the action and danger bit by bit. I am a forever fan!
*My thanks to the publisher and author for a copy of this book. The opinion stated here is entirely my own.
