Forty-two year old Jenny Beckett is dreading the holidays. Her fiancé has just called off their Christmas wedding, and she’s been evicted from her darling chicken coop cottage. When her estranged father dies and leaves her eight rustic guest cabins on Heron Lake, Jenny seizes the chance to make a new life. She packs up her dogs, her miniature horse and her beat up Airstream trailer and moves to … to the lake.Short on time and money, Jenny and her contractor, widower Luke, work feverishly to renovate the cabins in time for the festive holiday event she’s promised her very first guests. When an unexpected blizzard snows them in and jeopardizes the resort’s opening, Jenny and Luke work to save the event and, along the way, find true love… and the magic of Christmas.

This book by Susan Schild is an uplifting and enjoyable story about second chances ..told by characters ..over 40…With faith , tenacity and hard work it shows what good people can do when the challenges of life throw you a curve….
Highly recommend this book! Would be a great Hallmark movie. Need to see more movies with over 40
This was a perfect Christmas read. It had a good story line, a quirky woman with a miniature horse and hunky contractor who takes her seriously. It may be corny, but I love to read these romantic comedies where everything turns out okay and they all live happily ever after.
Delightful. I have to admit I had not read this author before and bought this book beacon the great cover. And the story did I not disappoint. I loved the characters and how the developed. Jenny, Luke ,Ashe and Charlotte were so cute. And I loved Levi. Can’t wait to read the sequel in May. Highly recommend.
This book was like a good holiday movie. I recommend it as a good read, anytime of the year.
This is a warm, feel good book with a happy ending. There are a few typos but overall this is a quick, enjoyable read.
kinda neat
Jenny has lost her fiancé to another woman, has lost her home to a greedy landlord and her father has passed away. All of these are enough to drive a person to the edge. Her father was a absent parent most of the time so she has an opportunity to connect with him after his death. He left her a box items to look through . She finds out he truly loved her and thought of her more than she believed. He also left her a treasure of lakeside property that will help her with a home and a great future. Also a wonderful guy to help her get past her hurt from her broken engagement. If you are looking for a sweet holiday book this is for you. It is a book about second chances, friendship , and joy. Look forward to reading the next book this summer.
A really fun Christmas read.
This was a fun read. I enjoyed getting to know the various characters. It was quite a mix of personalities. I look forward to reading more in this series.
The pefect book to cozy up to with your favorite hot drink! I’m not normally a fan of Christmas books (although I watch endless hours of Hallmark Christmas movies), but this book was just right for the season. It made me want to look up cabin rentals and make plans for a cozy winter getaway. Throw in a mini horse and great dogs (dogs always draw me in) and just enough romance and you have the best of it all. Highly recommend this one and can’t wait for the spring/summer book at the same cabins.
A nice feel-good read.
Enjoyed this book. A good story.
This was a great easy read. I immediately looked for the next book but it doesn’t come out until June!
Just what I enjoy reading at Christmas time. Simple plot, fun and cozy.
This is a cozy book. I don’t read many cozy books any more, I have read so many of them in the past that I am just done. But this was enjoyable because the heroine was a real person, who saved herself with help from friends, including the love interest. Every once in a while I enjoy reading nice books. This was good reading for the Holiday Season.
A light read, pretty predictable.
Really enjoyed this happily ever after story.
Cute little story!
A delightful cozy Christmas read! This book was entertaining and a joy to read! I loved how there was a touch of suspense and a sparkling of romance and characters to love! I loved all the characters and the beautiful setting of Heron Lake and the Lakeside Resort. Believable and a place I would enjoy being at for the holidays!
