Forty-two year old Jenny Beckett is dreading the holidays. Her fiancé has just called off their Christmas wedding, and she’s been evicted from her darling chicken coop cottage. There are many joyful moments in Christmas at the Lakeside Resort- Love and friendship, the tension and satisfaction of creating a beautiful place and wonderful experiences for people, the enjoyment of dogs and good food and singing and snow….Jenny struggles with her fears of vulnerability as she finds new love with Luke who is so great but also has a few flaws of his own to work on.
?Susan’s Schild’s descriptions are often witty. One of my favorite passages so well describes the 2 big dogs-
“Jenny arranged Luke’s breakfast on a plate while he made quick work of unloading the truck bed. When he stepped into the kitchen, Bear and Buddy careened in behind him, pushing past him like commuters in a New York subway trying to squeeze into the last car.” This book reminds you of the goodness and thoughtfulness in people
I really enjoyed this novel for several reasons. Jenny was relatable with real life problems but also had a network of friends going for her. Charlotte seems like the type of best friend everybody needs to have, I adored her. I felt bad for Jenny several times but admired the way she persevered & overcame whatever life threw at her. Twists, turns, ups & downs will definitely keep you turning pages!
I was given CHRISTMAS AT THE LAKESIDE RESORT by my BFF from 5th grade as a gift, and we read this delightful book together. I started it just as it got quite busy during the holidays, and I’d try to read it when I could. I have to say, I didn’t get to read as much as I wanted during this busy time, but it was such a pleasure when I could. It was an easy, calming, warm and homey read — just what I needed. I enjoyed the story, the characters, and I told my friend I could easily see this book being made into a Hallmark movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I look forward to Book 2 in the Series. Thank you, Susan Schild, for a lovely story.
Pleasant p, quick read like watching a Hallmark movie.
I was somewhat disappointed in this book. It was a predictable romance story and the hero was too good to be true.
I enjoyed this book. It was down to earth and entertaining. A nice, sweet love story!

“A warm-hearted, charming Christmas story you won’t want to miss…”
MY REVIEW
WOW What a great book about second chances and starting over !!! One of the best Christmas books I’ve ever read. This is my First time reading this author but will not be my last. I want to read all of her books now. I enjoyed every minute of this heartwarming story . So much so that when i finished i started over and read it again. Much slower this time. I did not want my time there to end. I loved going along with Jenny on her journey as she changed her whole life, and took a huge risk trying to get the Lakeside Resort up and running. As i was reading this story we were having a huge snow storm that dumped 19 inches on us. (Talking about making you feel like you was right there.) For us here in NC that is alot . I can not wait until book 2 Summer at the Lakeside Cabins comes out. I loved not 1 but all of the characters .The two rescue dogs and Levi the miniature horse just made the story all that more perfect. Susan Schild’s new book “Christmas at the Lakeside Resort” is for sure a 5 star read. If you have not grabbed a copy of it yet you need to. I highly recommend this book.

Loved this book about older people falling in love.
Cute, if predictable, story. The thing that bothered me the most is that once the resort was up and running who was going to do daily maid service and wash the linens. Guess I have a very practical nature.
I really enjoyed this book. The miniature horse was a great addition to the story.
Easy to read book when you want to read something Christmasy with a happy ending and don’t want to think about what you are reading.
good holiday read
Susan Schild writes sweet southern romance in such a way I want to be part of her characters’ world.
This is the perfect Christmas story to start your holiday reading…and there’s a mini-horse, you guys, unfinished cabins, a snowstorm, and a hunky contractor. What could possibly go wrong?
Adored this light, fun, romantic story.
This was a wonderful storyline. Great characters. Unique pets. A great read. Great
Ending but sorry to see it end.
This book is so warm and cozy…a perfect book for the holidays, sitting in front of a fire. Jenny is still grieving a bad break-up and kind of in a rut. When she receives word that her father has died, a man who hadn’t been part of her life for years, she’s surprised to find out he left her some prime land on a lake with unfinished cabins…can she fulfill her father’s dream? She begins to envision a new life for herself, and it doesn’t hurt that she’s hired Luke, a good-looking man, to help her finish the cabins. The setting is enticing and beautiful, the characters are endearing and quirky, and there are even two dogs and a miniature horse! A truly heart-warming story filled with love, humor and hope. I am thrilled to know that this book will be the first in a series, so I can spend more time at the lake with Jenny, Luke and the rest of these lovely people!
This book made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It is such a feel good story of Christmas and love. Jenny inherited cabins on Lake Heron from her Father and decides to finish the resort and open it for the holidays. I loved this book! Filled with richly developed characters that you will love, this book is hard to put down. I could smell the spirit of Christmas and feel myself trudging through the snow. I could smell the food cooking on the stove and the pecan pie in the oven. This story is so vibrant and vivid that you will become immersed in the pages. It is well written and flows well throughout. I feel such love for this book. This is one you don’t want to miss out on! Highly recommended reading for the holidays or any time you want to feel good!
