A delicious love story about a bridal designer showing her new collection in the Alps during the magical week of Christmas where hijinx of the heart ensue. It’s the day after Christmas, and Felicity Grant is at a gorgeous ski chalet in St. Moritz for the biggest fashion show of her career. Felicity is a rising star on the bridal design scene, and this is her best collection yet. But when her … collection yet. But when her boyfriend gives her a spa day instead of a diamond ring for Christmas, she has to face the possibility that she may never walk down the aisle in one of her own stunning designs.
And then there’s Nell, the top model headlining Felicity’s show. Nell is planning her dream wedding to her wonderful fiance with one catch: her divorced parents can’t stand each other and threaten to no-show if the other is there.
Add to that Felicity’s race against the clock to create a special gown for a prestigious bridal salon, and what both girls need is a Christmas miracle. What better place to find one than in the Swiss Alps with its dark forests and sparkling vistas?
But for Felicity it’s hard to recognize a miracle even when it’s right in front of her, and for Nell one miracle might not be enough to fix the past. Can dreams really come true or is that the stuff of Swiss fairytales?
Anita Hughes’s Christmas at the Chalet is full of romance, gorgeous gowns, and the stunning scenery of the Swiss Alps. It’s about love and forgiveness, and creating one’s own miracles during the most festive time of year.

Christmas at the Chalet is the latest offering by author Anita Hughes. Bridal dress designer Felicity Grant, her business partner Raj Patel, and their stable of top models are spending Christmas week in St. Moritz in anticipation of the unveiling of the Felicity Grant Bridal winter collection. During the week Raj has set up events and photo opportunities. This premier would be a dream come true for Felicity had she not left New York on the heels of an argument with long time boyfriend Adam.
Once again an opportunity with Christmas had passed them by for an engagement. They had talked about their future, even to talking about how many children they would have, but after 6 years there was still no proposal. When Felicity FaceTimes with Adam after her arrival in St. Moritz, the conversation goes awry and ends with Adam saying maybe they need to take a break, perhaps even see other people. Felicity is broken hearted. As she wanders through the town, she takes a tumble twisting her ankle and Dr. Gabriel Innes comes to her rescue.
When pictures of Felicity and the good doctor appear on fashion blogs, the gossip mongers take off. At the same time as this unwanted attention is directed at Felicity her top model and good friend Nell Mason is trying hard to stay low key and keep her estranged parents apart, as they are both in St. Moritz and she is making it her top priority to ensure that they will both attend her wedding and, perhaps, she can determine why they split in the first place.
As the bloggers do their deeds and Adam does come to St. Moritz, there are many intertwining threads of the story that come to a head with, and after, the New Year’s Eve fashion show. The many outcomes will surprise and delight the reader. As with all Ms. Hughes’s books, I did enjoy this book and do recommend it.
Christmas at the Chalet: A Novel (Kindle) Anita Hughes This book has two love stories Felicity the Bridal designer and her top Model Nell. Felicity wants to get engaged to her longtime boyfriend and Nell want her divorced parents to get along long enough to both be at her wedding. Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for allowing me to preview this book.
Add in a fashion show in St. Moritz a handsome local Doctor named Gabriel and lots of great scenery, good food, some laughs and love and you get your surprising HEA.
Christmas at the Chalet by Anita Hughes is a book written with awesome detail, the descriptions of St. Mortiz, the fashions, cuisine and everything in between. I felt like I was right there in the snow covered town sitting right by the warm fire. The detail of the food had my mouth watering. The views are imprinted in my mind. This a quick read romance for a cold winter’s night. Christmas at the Chalet was a very enjoyable read.
This is my first read by Anita Hughes, and whilst I liked it, I didn’t love it.
I could almost hear that Robin guy who was the voice-over man for “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” as I was reading. It was kind of hard to connect when every single person was uber-successful and beautiful – no plain Jane office workers in this one – but this could just be me.
I loved the setting of St Moritz, and snow at Christmas time is just something we see on TV in this part of the world.
My main issue was that for the most part, the characters felt very immature. The parents of one lady – omg what a pair or selfish, well, you don’t want to know the words I have for them. I have seen 3 years olds behaving better than them!
I also felt that maybe there was too much trying to happen? Too many storylines fighting for space in the one book. Sometimes less is more, and to me, it would have been the case in this one.
I know this sounds like I didn’t like this book, but I did. When I wasn’t wanting to reach into the book and hit people with my reader. I just had my issues with it that probably won’t bother anyone else.
“Christmas at the Chalet” by Anita Hughes
Wow, now I have all these views of St Moritz emblazoned in my memory! I almost wish I skied. AND, what a busy clean romance tale this is. I was invited by the publisher to accept an ARC of this story via NetGalley. Very glad I accepted this invite. Sometimes Christmas miracles really do come true, but not necessarily the way you expect. I truly enjoyed my time with Felicity and Nell and the telling of their stories.
Ugh!! First off this is going to have major spoilers so I can explain why this book annoyed me so much. Felicity is a very wishy-washy person when it comes to her relationship. Felicity gets into a fight with her boyfriend of 6 years because he doesn’t propose on Christmas like she thought he would. She leaves right away to go to Switzerland to do her Bridal Fashion show. While she is there she meets the handsome doctor Gabriel. During this whole book she keeps meeting up with Gabriel for relationship advise because he’s a stranger. So instead of talking to her best friend, Nell or her roommate of as many years/best friend Raj she talks to Gabriel. It really is a very dumb premise. You already know that she is going to fall for Gabriel what annoyed me is that she was with Adam for 6 years, she talks about wanting to be with him forever and he comes to Switzerland and what does she do, leaves him to go to a museum with Gabriel because she needs advice. I just wanted to slap her over and over. If she so loves Adam as much as she says in this book, she wouldn’t have left him in the room to meet another guy. By the end she realizes she doesn’t really love Adam and is falling in love with Gabriel. I’m sorry but after not even 1 week she dumps her boyfriend of 6 years and falls in love with a doctor is less than a week. VERY Annoying and very dumb. In between this whole story is the story of Nell’s parents and since my review is already so long I will make this short. Nell’s parents were jerks through the whole book acting like children. It just irritated me more reading this book, by adding this into the book. I can tell the author needed to fill the book but this just add to the annoyance of the whole book. I was really hoping for a great read and instead I got a dud.
*I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC, this opinion is mine alone.
Anita Hughes does beautiful detail in this book. From descriptions of St Moritz to the wedding gowns designed by Felicity. Felicity is a wedding designer, and is having her first big show in St Motitz on New Years Eve. The follows the designer, models and others for one week till the show. Flashbacks give insight to the dynamics of the players. Predictable storyline. A good read for a cold winter day, especially if you are in the mood for a romance.
