”. . . my favorite rogue story, I go back to it often. . . . Beverley has managed to bring romance, mystery and intrigue . . . just fun! ~An Actual ReaderLeander, Lord Charrington has a problem. Raised to be a charming diplomat, women fall in love with him.He, however, seeks a marriage of convenience with a sensible woman with whom he can live on honest terms. The impoverished widow, Judith … terms.
The impoverished widow, Judith Rossiter, Angel Bride of poet Sebastian Rossiter, seems ideal. Still dressing in black, she remains devoted to her dead husband, and she has children to provide for.
Judith Rossiter thanks heaven for the earl’s offered escape from disaster. Though her story is not what the earl believes, the terms of his agreement—to not fall in love with him—seem simple enough. Or so she believes on her wedding day . . . .

Always loved Jo Beverley’s books, this was a bit surprising in the hero ( a Brit who is more Continental), different kind of heroine (widowed mother of 2), greedy cowardly villain. A good addition to the Company of Rogues, not all the action of some but a really sweet story.
The weeping widow.
The weeping widow tale was an excellent read Judith is a great character. I enjoyed reading her and Lee’s journey from both not thinking they need or want love to find that it was really important. The twists were good and I enjoyed seeing the villain get his in the end. Bastian and Rosie were charming. This may be a tale that takes place during Christmas time but it is one you can read any time of the year. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. Taking on a ready-made family may have seemed a good idea, but Judith Rossiter and her children come with more baggage than Lord Charrington bargained for. I found this romance intriguing and it held my interest from start to finish, as the unusual couple tries to find common ground in their marriage. Judith has trust issues and Leander cannot help but manage people and situations. Although they both agree that love has no part in their future, inevitably when danger strikes and Leander rushes in to protect his new family, feelings are aroused. The story is well written and is a standalone with the children bringing moments of hilarity and unexpected humor. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. The story of another of the rogues, Leander (Lee) Knollis, Earl of Charrington. Lee is back in England and looking for a bride, he has spent many years abroad as his father was a diplomat. Judith is a widow of a well known poet and has two children, Bastien and Rosie. I enjoyed meeting up with some of the rogues again. Lee and Judith needed to be honest with each other before things could improve. Bastien and Rosie acted just as the children they were, with their squabbles but loving each other. I found this to be an entertaining read, there is a mystery and attempted murder to solve. I look forward to reading more in the series. I received a copy from eBooks Discovery and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I have purchased my own copy.
Each of the Rogues is different and the way Leander Knollis, Earl of Charrington, was raised hadn’t helped him in his sentimental life. His expectations of marriage and family life were at odds with his need to be loved, even though he did not see it that way. Being Lucien and Beth’s story the first book I read about the Rogues, I was struck by the Leander and Judith family drama. What seemed obvious was not. An uninformed, not her fault, and fast to misinterpret heroine and a badly influenced and emotionally isolated hero willing to settle for less, they were making life difficult for themselves. The mystery and suspense were made to wait in the plot, and we rediscover several of the Rogues taking action on the matter. Interesting Judith’s character, a brave lioness defending her cubs, that she would not have had if she had not roared. That explanation intrigued me. But her wisdom was felt with the comment “But how is anyone to know if nobody speaks of it?”.
The interesting characters and the good storyline grabbed my attention from the very beginning and kept me turning the pages until the very last page!
Own all her books…all good. Not a single bad read ever.
If you like historical romance, this an enjoyable read with different twists and turns !
loved it!!!!!!
It’s a feel good book and I’ve read it several times and will be reading again in the future .
Good!
Adored it ! One of the best books I’ve ever read! It’s lovely and kind and a satisfying read.
Love the entire Company of Rogues series, but this one is a little different. The heroine is more “real” than so many. She’s lived a life more like mine I suppose, so I identified with her more than I have some of the other heroines in the books.
Always enjoy Jo Beverly.
I really like Jo Beverly’s books. I’m enjoying the series and reading the stories of all the Rogues. Well written and very entertaining.
Fun to read. Warm and entertaining.
Loved the heroine’s tenacity and the well defined characters.
Very much enjoyed.
What a wonderful story by Jo Beverley. It has been years since I read one of her books, Christmas Angel was a delightful read. I laughed with the heroine, her children and their antics. The hero was a bit of a rogue who wanted to get married and have a family but not fall in love! As if Jo Beverley will let that happen (lol). I look forward to reading the rest of the Rogue series.
What if you found yourself married to a poet who immortalized you in his poetry, but doesn’t provide for you when he dies? Jo Beverly has created a most interesting juxtaposition between a proud starving widow and a wealthy but cold lord who has decided to use the requirement he marry as a form of charity by helping a poor woman he has no intention of loving. But like all Jo Beverly romances, both characters soon learn that love is all.
