~Christina~
My entire life I’ve lived with shadows lurking behind what otherwise appears like the perfect family. My mother often disappears into her bedroom for days at a time because her life becomes too much to deal with. I never understood it. I know there are family secrets. I hear the whispers and innuendos. But no one wants me to know the truth.
The thing is: I’m not a little girl … little girl anymore. I’m tired of not being told. I must seek the answers and discoveries that will change my life and the relationship I have with my family, possibly forever. I soon discover that there is another daughter. The betrayal I feel from having to learn that on my own sends me running off to find her, no matter how much my parents, and Max, discourage me. I’m tired of all the lies. I can’t do it anymore, and I won’t.
My best friend since my early teens is Max Salazar. He’s my cousin by adoption, and best friend in the world, even if lately, he has been acting like anything but family. He is often in trouble so I’m always trying to bail him out. But this time, I get in way too far over my head and there’s only Max to turn to. Max, however, refuses to accept my comfort. How can I think about caring for someone who can’t even stand my touch?
Daughters is the spin-off of The Sister Series. It is NOT necessary to have read any of the Sister Series to read this series, but I do recommend The Other Sister and The Years Between which tell the story of Christina’s parents, Jessie and Will. And The Years After which starts the story of Max Salazar.
All my titles contain explicit profanity and sexual content. Mature audiences ONLY
No Cliffhanger

Christina is the first book in the Daughters Series. It has some of the characters that we met in the Sisters series. I loved that I got to learn more about where some of those folks are now. Christina or Tiny as some of her family call her met Max when he first came to live with Lindsay and Noah. She became his voice at times and his champion. They have been best friends and pretty much inseparable ever since. They graduate high school and things don’t seem the same with them. Max knows he loves Christina, but tries to hide it. Max has always enjoyed fighting, and does it. It’s a way for him to let out anger and steam. He’s always been good at it, but tries to hide it from Christina because he knows she doesn’t like it. It’s hard to say much because the story touches on so many things so I don’t want to give much away. But one night Christina finds Max and he lost a fight and is bloodied and in really bad shape. She talks to him but walks away. This is a huge turning point in Max’s life. Christina also learns many things about her parents, and especially her mother that shake her. It was great reading about the strong bond between Max and Christina. But is that bond enough to get them through many trying times? Will there young love survive college and beyond? You need to read this book to find out. Leanne Davis has not disappointed me in anything I have read yet, and this one definitely did not. I look forward to reading the rest in this series.
I love everything by Leanne Davis! This series is phenomenal! I was hooked from the first book!
I absolutely love getting a look at the next generation of characters in a series and how what their parents went through affects them! Loving every thing this author writes.
WOW! Leanne Davis did it Again with CHRISTINA! This is the First BOOK in the Daughters Series and you learn so much information. It was such an EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER ride of Epic proportions and never a Dull moment page after page! I’m Such a Big Fan of Ms. Davis and CHRISTINA was Beautifully Written! Must Have tissues handy and definitely a Must Read Book with its Mysterious Family secrets!
Christina Hendricks has always lived a wonderful life with her family but she knows that there are secrets that her parents have and her mom will hide herself away in her room for days and then come out pretending that nothing is wrong.
Max Salazar is Christina’s best friend and her adopted cousin. The two have been close since he was adopted by Noah and Lindsay but Max still has issues with letting anyone get close to him. Max fights his way through life and strives on picking fights and being underestimated by his opponents.
As Christina begins to learn secrets from her parents past she also struggles with her feelings for Max. Will Max let Christina into his heart or will he push her away and turn back to fighting?
Can each of them overcome the ghosts of their pasts to focus on a future together?
This was such a great book and I was really looking forward to learning about Will & Jessica’s daughters after everything they went through in the past.
Christina was a smart girl who was very caring about others yet when needed she also was able to put on a “fake face” and appear like nothing was wrong. As she began to discover more and more about her parents past it left her with more questions and also a greater understanding and appreciation for both of them. I loved how Will constantly stood up for Jess above all else.
Christina was also struggling through the book with her relationship with Max as he broke her heart and she knew she had to put distance between them. Yet at the same time there were so many instances when she wanted to call him about what was going on and she felt like she no longer could. My heart completely broke for her after the situation at the gym and learning what she did.
Max had a very difficult past and felt like he had been abandoned so many times and he learned to fight from an early age and it was how he dealt with everything. Even though he had been taken in by Noah and Lindsay he still held them at a distance, afraid of letting them get to close. Even when Noah provided him with a safer outlet he still ended up on the wrong side. When Christina got too close for comfort he pushed her away as he knew it was safer for him. I was very happy when Max finally realized he needed help and had to deal with everything inside his brain.
Towards the end I knew why Christina did what she did with San Francisco and I was sad for her that it never ended the way she hoped it would but I also felt bad for the other character as it was a complete surprise.
The end was great and I loved where Max ended up and how much he turned everything around!!
This is book 1 in the Daughter series by Leanne Davis. Christina doesn’t understand her mother. One day she is fine then the next thing she is in her room all day. Her dad needs her help with her sisters and Christina is tired of it. When she final finds out about her mother she finally understands. This book was great. Leanne Davis is such a great writer. Her stories suck you from the beginning.
I will read absolutely anything that Leanne Davis writes because this author is absolutely amazing. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. Highly recommended.
So good! This is the second book I have read by Leanne Davis and I’m a fan. On the surface Christina is a story of young love. It’s that and so much more. I loved all the characters. My heart was fully invested. I loved how the family gathered around Max no matter what. The example of unconditional love in this book is inspiring!
This is a really good, gut wrenching book that is well written. Christina is bratty with her mom (I wanted to smack her at times) but she doesn’t know her mom’s story, so you can get past her behavior. Max has gone through a lot and his story is very emotional. I definitely recommend that you have tissues close by at all times because you get all the feels with this one!!
I first discovered Leanne Davis when I read The Other Sister which is about Jessie. Then I read The Years Between. This story is about Christina. (Jessie and Will’s daughter). It was nice to see the journey continue and learn more about the family. At times it is sad and heartbreaking to read about Max and Christina and to re-discover what happened to Jessie. I feel like I jump in to stories written by Leanne Davis. There are also happy moments that we see in all of the families.
We all saw the way that Max instantly drawn to Tiny when he first came into their lives. We all knew about the speech issues but not the depth of his others. Poor Christina loves him but he’s scared and all during this she learns about her parents past. This is very angsty and sad at time. But loved it!
Christina is the daughter of Will and Jess. Will and Jess’s story is not all rainbows. Christina is always looking for information about her parents. They have been together for 20 something years and didn’t meet the normal way. Christina’s aunt and Unlce adopt a boy at the age of 13 years old and he has some issues. Max is one who doesn’t like to be touched at all. Max and Christina become great friends and help each other out. They are each other go to people. When Christina finds out information on her mom she runs to Max, but the thing is they have feelings for each other but Max’s anger is scarier than anything. They work through a lot of issues, but as summer ends they drift apart and can’t seem to repair it. Max has to hit bottom to see what life is like without Christina. Will he ask for help and hold on to her or will he go on doing something illegal? You’ve got to read this book!!!
I really liked the idea of this book. Though I did find it wordy and repetitive. The character were good. The storyline was interesting enough. That is what kept me going to finish the book. I really had a hard time getting through it for the most part. It seemed to carry on and drag. Being the first in the series, I’m not sure I’d read book 2 unless it has some serious clean up.
Christina seems like a strong, well liked high school student who’s best friend has some issues from his past. They go through some ups and downs while trying to figure out if their secret interest in each other could ever end up being more. Especially since he has been adopted into her aunt and uncles family.
2.5/5 not my favourite book. Not sure if I’d pick up another
Always love Leanne’s. She always writes about such tough topics and this one does it again. Christina and Max have been best friends for years. They work through some series obstacles. But they find their true love.
A great start to the Daughters series. Christina and Max, favorite couple, they overcame a lot.
This book had my emotions all over! Christina is Jessie & Wills daughter from the first book of sisters she learns what happened to her mom & the boy that’s her BFF but also close to her family may be the one to piece her together! Can’t wait to read Natalie’s book it sounds amazing
After all the Sisters books, the story line again comes around to the home of the characters who started it, Jessie and Will Hendricks. While it is nice to learn more about them, this time they are not the focus of the story but is is their oldest daughter. Christina has grown up and is ready to try and claim the love of her life, Max isn’t quite as ready and their journey has it’s share of ups and downs. This book has a few scenes that I found were a bit difficult to read and I found the characters a slightly difficult to connect to, but the ending for Max made it well worth the read.
This ended up being a pretty good book after Max pulled his head out of his rear (warning…that takes a while!). Christina, aka Tina and Tiny, is naive and bratty but realizes she loves Max, warts and all. The kid can’t stand to be touched so there is definitely problems. I loved how Jessie and Will dealt with their daughter. It was good to read about them as parents.
About a forth of a way into this book I felt sucker punched. I shouldn’t have been surprised because this author writes gut-wrenching books but I wasn’t expecting for the feelings I went through in The Wrong Sister (this book/series is about the daughters of Jessie and Will) to come back with such a vengeance. I am going to say from this point on if you haven’t read The Wrong Sister there may be spoilers.
When this book first started I was not impressed with Christina. She seemed like she was a spoiled self centered brat. Throughout her life there were times her mother would lock herself in her room and not come out for days sometimes. Other times her mom would just freak out over what Christina thought were minor things. She never understood why when those times happened she had to take over the care of her sisters while her father coddled her mother. I kept wanting to scream if you only knew what your mother had been through you wouldn’t be acting like that. As with all of Leanne’s book she makes me think about things. All parents have a past – some painful and shocking. Does a parent not share their experiences to shelter their children or should they be open about the mistakes or traumatic things that happened to them in the past so their children can learn for their mistakes or learn that the world is not always a nice place and bad things can happen. After a situation Will decides to tell Christina part of her mother’s history (which was the first time I got emotional throughout this book). I was as horrible to hear it again now as it was so many books ago. Christina was devastated but it made her look at her childhood and mother in a whole new light.
It may not seem like it so far but that isn’t all this book is about. In Jessie’s sister’s book her and her husband at the end adopted two older boys that came from a horrible childhood and both came with their own set of problems. Max Salazar came to them with communication problems, issues with anger and also a severe case of the phobia of being touched. Max has issues of caring for anyone or allowing anyone to care about him. The only exception to that is Christina. Since they were both 13 they became each other’s best friend. It was a strange relationship with Max’s issues but Christina always accepted Max how he was. These two deep down care about each more than just as friends but with Max’s issues he is constantly sabotaging anything more than friendship between them and eventually he does something that threatens even that.
The parallels of what Will (Christina’s dad) and Christina had/have to go through for the person they love are very obvious and ironic and bring her family eventually even closer. There is so much more that happens in this book but I feel I would be writing a book length review if I don’t stop here. One of those surprises is who the next book is about and the sneak peak we get of that at the end of this book has me dying to get my hands on that story.
